Rise and shine...it's MAKEOVER time!
I love a good airport scene in a romantic comedy. You know, when the guy chases the girl to the airport, right before she's about to leave the country forever. Then he tells her that he loves her, and they hug and kiss and stuff, and she stays! There's a really cool airport scene in
Garden State, which is one of my favourite movies. I love strong, eccentric female characters, like the one Natalie Portman plays.
Just as I love a good airport scene, I also love makeover scenes.
The Princess Diaries and
Miss Congeniality have funny ones. In real life, I am also a fan of makeovers. I don't know what that makes you think of me- maybe it makes you think I'm a little shallow. But the thing is, I love being able to play with my appearance. I love expressing different attitudes through my clothes and make-up. I love seeing people become more confident with a new haircut or a new shirt. Though, I must say, I hated that TV show called
Extreme Makeover, where the contestants had plastic surgery. That was just gross. I'm just talking about wearing your eyeshadow differently, and stuff like that. Last night, Geoff and I were feeling silly, so I tried straightening his hair with a straightening iron. I actually really love his curly hair, but we wanted to see what it would look like when it was straight. So, half an hour later, we realised that he looked silly with straight hair. I put some sticky wax in it to make it spiky, and immediately, his hair went curly again. He looked like Rob Smith from The Cure (who, might I add, I just LOVE- he just seems so sensitive and thoughtful). Unfortunately, Geoff was rather unhappy about his new look. To make him feel better, I allowed him to do my hair and makeup. In a few words, this is what I looked like. Hair: two ponytails, very 80's. Face: think of a 5-year-old Pocahontas playing with her mum's makeup. Yeah, I looked like a freak. But it was fun. I love having a best friend slash boyfriend I can muck around with.
So anyway, all of this talk about makeovers leads me to the damn obvious: I have made over my site for the first time in AGES! And the reason behind this change, dear readers? Well, it is a new year, and I love a fresh look for a shiny new year. But, the truth is that the reason I changed the look of my blog was because my sister chose the exact same template for hers! When I was little, I used to cry if she wore the same outfit as me (again, I will remind you that I am not shallow, but instead, a deep-thinking individual). I think that the underlying concern for me is that...well...her blog is just so GOOD! And I am a little jealous! Maybe sibling rivalry never dies.
As for this week, well, it's been all crazybananas. One moment, I was luxuriously enjoying my summer holidays. The next, everything went wrong. It really did. My grandfather in Indonesia had a heart attack and a stroke. He's fine now, praise God. So my Dad is in Indonesia at the moment. I just freaked out when I heard about my grandfather (who I call Agoong) was sick. It's really tough when someone you love lives so far away. I felt really guilty for not having visited him, too. For a few days after I heard that news, I felt so fragile and lost. I was really upset about everything in general. I'm okay now. I felt a lot better after praying about it this morning. Plus, Geoff has been really sweet to me the whole time (though he is generally sweet always).
Geoff and I went to the 360 bar today! The 360 bar is on the top of Centrepoint Tower in Sydney, and it revolves! It took a whole lotta rigamarole to get up there (the bar was rumoured to be both opened and closed, we were checked by security and then charged double for our cocktails), but once we were there, it was worth it. It was really rainy and cloudy today, so at first, all we saw was pure white, thick fog. But then suddenly, the clouds would wisp away, and we could see the whole of Sydney spread before us. After we were there for about half an hour, the whole place began to revolve! It revolved very slowly, and was actually quite nice and not the tacky experience that I expected. I did feel a bit dizzy, though. The interior of the bar is very considered, with the light fixtures, carpet and tables all echoing the circular shape of the space. Geoff and I did silly dances in the elevator on the way down, just so that the security people could get a laugh when they saw us on their TVs. I laughed so hard that I cried. Oh, and here's a tip: don't order a cocktail called Josephine if you go there. I mean, hello, it was named after Napoleon's wife, who didn't bathe! Of course it would taste horrid!
Well, friends, of course there is stacks more to say, but I am trying to make my body return to its old sleeping habits. So it is an early night for me.Good night!
