Yay for summer!
I am feeling so happy right now! I just love these summer holidays. I feel like I have bounced perfectly back into shape. Gone are the mornings when I wake up, dreading the 2 hour commute to work. I am surprised at how quickly I have become semi-nocturnal. I feel totally dreamy, and at ease.
Christmas was a blast. My little brother Zachary helped me to make breakfast for the family- lychee champagne cocktails (though of course, with that fake fizzy grape juice stuff for underagers) and plum pudding (from a tin, dear readers- I am a busy woman, after all!). I was so super-hyperactive. My family were very generous, and gave me adorable presents. A particular highlight was receiving "The Donnas Get Skintight" from my sister Sonya. It is an old Donnas album, which they released when they were teenagers! The album features golden lyrics such as, "I saw you standin' by the Slurpee machine/White studded belt and skintight jeans/I tried to buy you a Hostess cupcake/Baby you're so sweet I got a toothache" and "B-O-R-I-N-G/Too bad you're not the boy for me/I think that nasal spray got to your brain/I knew you were lame from your wallet chain/A Boston baked bean is the size of your head/I heard you even wet your bed". I do feel slightly concerned when I get pumped from listening to these lyrics- am I inherently a mean person? Then I think, no, I'm just a rock girl who likes to have fun, and would also one day like to tell a boy that his head is the size of a baked bean.
I took Zachary to the beach the other day, with the help of Sonya and Geoff. It was so much fun. As you may have heard me say before: I may claim to be many things- a writer, a rock star, an actress- but a surfie girl, I am definitely not. Sure, I am a beach girl- I love the salty air and crunchy sand- but get me in the waves, and I turn into a screaming, wet, giggly monster. It was so cool! Geoff taught Zac how to boogie board, and then we buried Zac in the sand. Then we went to Crows Nest, stuffed ourselves with Thai food and finished off with some fluffy gelato. It was the best day. My entire body was sore the day after. It was always my aim to drive my little bro to the beach. I am glad that I did it this year.
In other news, we got a gooooooooorgeous new computer at home- it is SO quick and fast! And behold, above is my first computer illustration for my Spacegirl Princess Carla blog! I used to totally hate computer illos, but now I like them. They are so clean and expressive and fast. I also do think that the clouds and sun are friends.
Hurrah, New Year's Eve tomorrow- one of my favourite days of the year! I hope that you are all going to fabulous parties tomorrow night. And even if you're not, make your own party, damn it! A pack of lollies, great music and a TV to watch the fireworks are all you need, readers! Oh, and also a cute party outfit.
Much love,
Carla Gypsygirl x
