Everyday stuff I was trying to think of something devastatingly clever, funny and meaningful to write about this week…but ordinary life is just as good sometimes, isn’t it? Especially when you can break it down into point form…
> MISSING SISTER My little sister Sonya is in the Greek Islands at the moment. I didn’t realise how much I’d miss her. The day she left, I hugged her goodbye and got all teary. Then, while I was at work, I listened out for planes and tried not to cry again. But don’t you just love modern technology? I texted Sonya while I was in General Pants yesterday, and asked her if she wanted me to buy her a $40 Hello Kitty dressing gown. She messaged back and said that Greece is amazing, and that the food is incredible, and that no, she’d pass on the gown. As lovely as it all sounds, I want her to come home! I miss our girly conversations. I have no-one to ask if my outfit is okay! But I am glad she is having fun.
> SHOPPING RUINS YOUR MIND There’s nothing like two weddings and a black tie dinner on consecutive weekends to turn your usually level-headed Spacegirl into an all-shopping, bargain-crazed monster. A part of me wishes that it was socially acceptable to wear purple Doc Martens and band t-shirts to weddings- it would save a lot of time and money. It is somehow all worth it, though, when someone says, “That’s a great dress!”
> MMMMM…WEDDINGS Speaking of weddings, Geoff and I went to see our friends Mark and Karen get married on Saturday. It was lots of fun. It was really cool- Kara, a great mate of mine who I used to go to church with, was one of the guests. Her boyfriend plays in a band with Mark. Kara is one of those wonderful, rare girls who isn’t afraid of a good feed. So while we were watching the band rehearse (Tim was on trombone, and Geoff was singing), we tripped off to Franklins and grabbed Fruche, jelly and chocolate. That’s the most dressed up I’ve ever been in a grocery store. During the wedding, Geoff entertained the crowd with his falsetto-ridden version of Burt Bacharach’s “Say A Little Prayer”, complete with the original lyrics: “The moment I wake up, before I put on my make-up…” Geoff and I were asked by one of Mark’s uncles if we were married. That seems to be all the rage lately- asking us if we’re engaged or married! We’re not! We’re not even that lovey-dovey around each other! Sheesh! But I am always secretly pleased when people ask…are we giving off “we’re perfect for each other” kinda vibes?
> I STAND CORRECTED: SALADS AREN’T JUST FOR LOSERS I have begun to eat salads for lunch. After I have eaten it, I spend a short period feeling as though I am in a state of benelovent, noble health, where an aura of vitamins shines out around me. Then I’m starving again and eat a whole lot of biscuits and crackers. Maybe I will need to reassess the top statement again.
Until next time, readers. |
