    Time Event
    5:11p
    Fun
My friend Niccola (aka Veracious Vera) said something interesting the other day: she said that she felt like she missed out on a lot of fun and community stuff because she wasn't a Christian. She told me that she always thought that the camps and missions and other random things I did always sounded so cool, and that she wished she could have gone on them.

I found this observation from my fellow superhero (see www.livejournal.com/users/vonwoof) to be quite interesting. You see, I always immediately assumed that people would think the Christian stuff I did was super daggy and geeky. Like, when I was at uni, my friends would be all like, "I went to backpacking around Paris in the holidays...what did you do?" And I'd say, "I went down to the country and read the Bible with my friends," or "I went to inner-city Sydney and helped a church tell people about Jesus," or "I dressed up as a fairy and also Bible characters to teach little kids about Jesus." It doesn't really sound cool.

So it was nice to know that Niccola thought that what I did was fun. Because that's the truth: it IS fun! And it's what I love to do, whether it's cool or not. Last night, FEVA had a dinner to welcome any new first year students who were starting uni and interested in studying the Bible with us. The night was called "The Cushion Room". The FEVA gang had erected this huge white, droopy tent in the back section of their church. Inside were fairy lights and white Chinese lanterns, and a long table on the grass with delicious food and tea lights. There were stacks of pillows there, but of course, the more pillows the nicer it is, so I found myself lugging a massive garbage bag of star-shaped cushions around various train stations during peak hour and pretending that I wasn't weird at all. Being in the tent felt like something out of a fairytale.

It was so nice to meet a lot of the new faces, and also to see my old friends. There are so many things I love about Christian events, but you know what I love most? It's not the fun or the pretty decorations or the food...it's being with people who love Jesus and try to share that love with each other. It's serving people and taking an interest in what they do. It's seeing people grow in their interest and love of Jesus. And I guess I always wish I could share that with my friends who don't experience it. So it's nice to have friends who listen to (or read about!) my adventures with Jesus.

    The weekend calls! More soon.
