All I need is you I know that it's closer to the next weekend than the last, but I just have to share my last weekend with you. Because it was AWESOME. You know, I haven't been able to truly enjoy weekends until this year. Before that, I was always working behind a checkout somewhere on the weekend, seeing all of these sleepy, dreamy people waft around in pretty clothes while I was feeling all grumpy. But oh, things have changed!
I went to see the latest Marian Street Theatre production on Saturday. It was a production of "Heidi", and because it was the opening, Margie (the artistic director of the company) brought in this super-cute elderly Swiss couple who played these mega-long horns in the foyer. Like, the horns were probably over 10 feet and had to be rested on the ground. The couple wore bright red embroidered tops, and toasted to each other with champagne. Oooooh. I love the theatre- it's so magical. Then I went to some of my friends' housewarming. These sweet newlywed friends of mine are renting this cute little underground house, and they're allowed to paint the walls. So they painted all of these song lyrics on the walls- stuff from The Cure, U2 and Guy Sebastian (hey, he's kinda inescapable now, right?): "All I need is you, every day by my side"!
Sunday was really cool. I got to hang with Jungle Jane from Beachmission, and we kidnapped our mutual little friend Merryn and then lazed around eating lunch in the park. Merryn is sixteen and gorgeous- very outdoorsy and natural. She's more focussed on saving the world than getting her eyebrows done, and good on her! Jane is a total legend- lots of fun and very stylish, and just so real. She's so friendly, and she makes things happen without realising it. So anyway, Jane took me to hang with some of her mates by their pool in Beecroft, and it was really nice. Very sunny Sunday kinda stuff. Then I tagged along with her friends to "play" soccer (yeah, playing soccer for me means sitting on the side and trying to pay attention). We were hanging around in this beautiful oval- it was kind of sunken, and there was this fresh moistness in the air. The oval was surrounded by these pretty trees and flowers. Afterwards, Jane and I went back to her place AND SANG KYLIE MINOGUE KARAOKE! Does life get any better? Oh yes...then we went to Jane's church together, and I saw my minister from my childhood. It was so wonderful to tell him that I was a Christian. AND I MET THE BOYS WHO WERE THE VILLAGE PEOPLE AT JANE'S 21ST! But, they were like normal boys in normal jumpers! And the church hall had no more smoke or Justin Timberlake "Rock Your Body" coloured lights! But you know what? The friendship and love that decorated the hall last Sunday night was much prettier.
Friends beautify my life. And they make me shake my booty when they sing me Kylie. God is so good! |
