Pyjama Week!

I had tonsillitis a couple weeks ago, and had to miss out on working at the childcare centre for about two weeks. This made me a little sad, because I missed seeing my little friends. Plus, it was getting so boring being at home all the time. My return to work was glorious, though. Why? Because it was PYJAMA WEEK! This happens every year at the childcare centre, and this year's Pyjama Week was my first one. It's as simple and wonderful as this: the ladies I work with and the kids wear our pyjamas to work all week, and do pyjama-related games and craft. We also have a sausage sizzle in the park.
I assumed that the other ladies probably wouldn't go all the way with their PJ's, so I held back a bit. I had to catch the bus to work, after all. So once I got to work, I shoved on my purple-spotted pyjama pants, and wore a normal jumper and sneakers. But alas, I was mistaken: the ladies had gone to town with the pyjama theme! There was Melynda, with her blue teddy-bear print PJ's with a MATCHING bathrobe. Anne-Marie was resplendent in her hot pink jammies. But Judy beat us all hands-down- she wore sunny yellow pyjamas with elephants printed on them, PLUS slippers that were in the shape of elephant heads. Her slippers even had little trunks on them!
Pyjama Week is a brilliant idea. I have always felt that if we all wore pyjamas, the world would be a happier place...there would be no fashion fads that would make people feel left out; the streets would be full of colourful outfits; and we'd all feel just so comfortable. Plus, there would always be something interesting to talk about- for example, "My, Fred, what an amusing racing-car print on your pyjamas!" I suppose the only problem with Pyjama Week was that a lot of the kids got a little mixed up and thought that it was bed-time already, so there were a lot of little people trying to catch snoozes on the ground and on the couch at the wrong time of the day. Also, when we had the sausage sizzle in the park, lots of people looked at us funny.
But just in case you didn't pick it: I LOVE MY JOB AT THE CHILDCARE CENTRE! It's so lovely to play with playdough for work, and to be able to laze around in the sun on cushions and read stories to children. I love it when the kids hug me and tell me that I have "pretty nails". I don't even mind getting sand in my shoes from the sandpit, and getting paint on my clothes from craft. And, of course, I love having morning tea and bickies with the ladies. A well-placed cookie and cup of tea will always win me over. Especially those new Mandarin Slice bickies. Oh, and Tim Tams, of course.
