    Bummer

"Is that the latest fashion accessory?" Grace asked me kindly, looking at my bandaged wrist poking out from my sleeve. I stopped concentrating on my tofu-and-peanut-sauce burger and looked down at my hand. Alas, no, it was not a groovy new look. Unlike Nelly, I don't wear bandages as a fashion statement. A couple weeks ago, I finally dragged myself along to a physiotherapist and confirmed what I already knew- that I had over-strained my right hand from drawing, writing and playing the guitar! I think the moment where I really bunged it up was when I was icing those Easter eggs at Myer. My hand is getting better already, though, praise God! And I didn't do myself any permanent damage. It should heal in about a month. I'm still allowed to write and draw as much as I want. The only think I'm not supposed to do is play the guitar until my hand recovers. I've been a bit naughty, though, because I do take my Violet Crumble guitar (it's purple) out every now and then and bash out some chords.

I was actually a little glad when I found out what I'd busted my hand, because it'll force me to take it easy. I know I was supposed to take a break from all things design-and-illustration related this year, but too many good jobs have come up. Plus, I always wondered why nothing would happen to my hand after drawing for 23 hours sometimes, and now I know that yes, things DO happen if you push yourself too far!

I felt kind of special having an injury. The bandage looked a bit boring, though, so I jazzed it up with some inky pens while I was watching "Australian Idol". Unfortunately, the glamour didn't last long- three days later, I peeled off the bandage to reveal puffy red skin! I'd had an allergic reaction to the bandage! It's getting better again, and I can still do stuff. I went to the doctor again this week and asked her, "Is it supposed to be purple?" Apparently, I am a classic case of dermatitis-somethingorother, and that a photo of my hand ought to be in a medical textbook. Wow! I should be famous!

Oh, and by the way: after I finished writing yesterday's entry, my mum burst into my bedroom and said, "Guess what?" She'd met Emily from "Australian Idol"! Mum works at her school! How exciting!

ps. Check out my journal's new look, guys! I get a lot of people telling me that they love my journal (THANK YOU!) but that their eyes get sore from reading it. Hopefully this new look will be a little easier on the eyes. But tell me if you liked the other look better- I aim to please, you know!
