What WERE you listening to if you weren't listening to the Year 12 Rock Band last Tuesday night?
Ladies and gentlemen, today we present to you: the new and improved adventures of CARLA GYPSYGIRL!
THE ROCK BAND
If I can't be a rock star or a rock star's girlfriend, then thank goodness I will always be a rock star's sister! My little brother Derrick (who is actually taller than me) played with the Year 12 Rock Band at his school music night last Tuesday. He played three songs. One of them was a song called "Silly Putty", where Derrick played the bass guitar with his friend Cling on drums. I couldn't believe that that was my little brother playing the super-shifty bass up there on stage- he sounded amazing, and had some fantastic moves! But my favourite moment of the night was when Derrick, Cling and their friends Tony and Adam performed "Growing on Me", by The Darkness. The boys were told that they HAD to wear school uniform, but Derrick, being the cunning boy that he is, realised that variations could be made to this seemingly hard and fast rule. And so, in what was the most exciting part of a night that featured teenaged boys singing songs from "The Lion King", my brother and his friends appeared on stage wearing bright pink capes over their uniforms and matching pink superhero masks over their faces. I was so proud! Adam even did Justin Hawkins' falsetto notes. Of course, I cheered as loudly as I could, and Derrick even said that he could hear me laughing at his silly poses when he was on stage! When Derrick came home, I presented him with four home-made badges (see above) for him to share with his band mates. Derrick and the boys wore the badges to school the next day. I'm glad that they have a funny story to tell about the badges, because those boys sure do rock.
THE DRIVING LESSON
Dialogue from my driving lesson with Mario today:
Mario: "Why is it that you go so fast around the round-a-bouts? Why do you need to be in such a hurry?"
Carla: (after thinking carefully) "It's not that I'm in a rush. It's just that it seems so...boring, driving so slow."
Mario: "You don't need to worry about that. When people see the big "L" on the top of this car, they can see that you are a learner. The sign doesn't say that you are Michael Schumacher."
THE CHANGE OF PLANS
"Why," I can hear you asking yourself, "is Carla updating her blog when she said she wouldn't?" Well, dear readers, my plans have changed, hurrah! On the weekend, I was so stressed out- it was really bad. I couldn't think straight. But last night, I got an e-mail from one of my clients, and she said that I won't need to finish the designs for another two weeks. YAY! And so, I have declared myself to be on holidays now. THANK GOODNESS! God is so good- I was praying that He would give me a solution, because I couldn't see any way out of my stress zone. So this morning was spent very pleasantly by waking up late and finishing "The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency" while still in bed (Mr J.L.B. Matekoni is such a sweetheart), and I am now going to scoot down to the video store to hire a nice reliable romantic comedy. Then, at the end of this week, I'm going to go away with the FEVA gang for a whole week! Hurrah! Oh, for more times like these...I'm working on it, really I am.
