Derrick at The Vines

WOW. FINALLY. Pictures are here! I have to say, though, that unlike I promised, these photographs do not come from my spunky new camera. I am very excited to have my new camera, though. It isn't digital, which is nice, because I do love collecting my photos in their little paper packet and looking at them. I think that taking photos will be really good for me, because it'll help me to be creative again without the conceptual pressure that comes from illustrating. Though I HAVE started to draw for myself again, which is so great!

For about a year and a half, I've had these three disposable cameras that have sat on a shelf in my room. Not last summer but the summer before, I went a little crazy over photography- I was trying to take a photo every day. But after awhile, I ran out of money, so I couldn't print out my pictures anymore.

Last week, I finally picked up one of those old cameras and got the photos printed, and it was such a wonderful surprise to see the photos! There were photos that I didn't remember taking from events that had definitely stuck in my mind. It was like discovering hidden treasure. I found photos from the day I spent at Coogee Beach with my girlfriends for my 21st birthday; and photos from my friend Sam's "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" 21st, where I dressed up as Avril Lavigne (though no-one really knew who I was, seeing as I'm Asian and Avril isn't).

The photos that you see now are from my first real rock concert! I had seen live music before, but they didn't really count- I went to see Paul Mac with Fi and Bo and Kat at uni once, but that was kind of like a school disco because it was in the cafeteria area and everyone was all dressed up in R&B clothes; and I also went to see The Vines at Channel V with Derrick once, but that also didn't count because we were kind of far away from the front, plus Fox Studios is too commercial to be the hottest rock venue around.

Anyway, these photos came out of that disposable camera, and were taken the day before I turned 21. The last photo features Fi, Derrick and me in the middle. We went to see The Vines at the Enmore. I had the best time- at that time, I had like this crazy summer crush on the lead singer of the band, but once I got there, I didn't feel that special anymore seeing as there were a whole lot of teenage girls who also had a similar crush. Derrick and Fi were really awesome and protected me in the mosh. There was this one scary guy who kept trying to grab all the girls, and Derrick was so sweet- he got so mad that I thought he was going to hit the guy! I also remember Fi putting her arms around me so that I didn't get swept away from her and Derrick when everyone started leaping around all madly to "Get Free" and "Highly Evolved". Fi, you see, is a total mosh pit veteran. She's even had her picture in the Herald a couple times from this one time that she was photographed crowd-surfing at the Big Day Out. Did you know that when you mosh at the Enmore, the floorboards bounce like a trampoline?

Next up: explanations regarding the sunset happening in my life. Hurrah!
