Baths for everybody If you eat dinner at 4pm, I don't think that it really counts as dinner. Not for me, anyway. After I finished tutoring yesterday (it was a bit yucky- we did paper pop-outs, something I didn't really know anything about), Russell picked me up from Gladesville, and we ended up at McDonald's a little after 9 at night. Our buddy Alice was working there in the drive-through, and she got to wear this cool headset thing. Russell claims that she has worked there "as long as I have been alive," which was clearly an exaggeration, seeing as Alice is 21 and Russell is turning 24 this year. Russell said to me, "Did you want to eat here, or did you want to go somewhere else?" "Oh, somewhere else, please!" I'd been inside pretty much all day. When I started studying at my city university four years ago, I used to really miss the beautiful scenery of my high school (Riverside Girls' High School in Gladesville, which was a public school with stellar senior lawns and a harbour view). I still need to hang around in the outdoors a lot these days in order to feel normal.
In the car, I directed Russell to Henley Baths, which is near where my grandparents live. We walked down the dark stairs (Russell went first, in case he needed to defend me from any creepy attackers), and sat down on some rocks. The view was beautiful, tranquil and electric. I had never been there at night before. "It's so beautiful," Russell said. I was in a mood that accepted beauty, so I was happy to sit back and gaze at things. We were only a little bit above the black water, and could look out to all of the fancy houses that were on the other side of the river. There were quite a few nice yachts bobbing about. Lights cast orange and white wobbly lines across the water. There was also a full moon. It was a really lovely night. We got to talk about a lot of things, some of which were really important, as well as some nice ordinary how-was-your-day talk. I like the idea that I have a secret, pleasant life that people in my public life (like my clients and students and customers) don't really know about. Today, I was thinking that it'd be great if I had a photograph of what I saw at Henley Baths to put in here to show you guys. But then I realised that the moment wouldn't have been so peaceful or private or special if everyone could see it.
I had another really busy day today. Pretty much as soon as I woke up, I was on the computer, cleaning up the latest drawing I did for the Marian Street Theatre. Then it was off to work at Myer. It was pretty good today- I didn't get too angsty. It was actually nice to space out for a bit, and think over stuff. I got to read a tiny bit of Meg Cabot's latest book, "Boy Meets Girl", which is for grown-ups! Then after I got back home, I had a tiny break, and then it was back onto the computer again. Hopefully things will calm down by Friday.
Do you think that it will ever be cool to like The Vines? Most people think that they're a terrible sell-out band. They're not even cool daggy, like The Bangles or The Darkness. But I really, really like them. I have a t-shirt from their concert at the Enmore, and I don't wear it out anymore, because people say stuff like, "Err, you like The Vines? They so suck, they're just a band that gets trashed and yells a lot and wrecks all of their equipment." My sister bought the new Vines single the other day- "Ride"- and let me listen to it, and I love it! I love how the guitars sound clean yet heavy, and I love how the song is melodic yet still shouty.
Oh, and by the way: Holly Valance, Beyonce Knowles, that soccer guy, Mark Philopoopoo, Chloe the model girl, and Guy Sebastian (unfortunately)- no, I am NOT THIRSTY, and will you PLEASE just leave me alone and let me look out of the bus window in peace!!! |
