    Time Event
    7:03p
Autumn, leap days, Man Ray and Illustration 1
Three cheers everyone, it's AUTUMN! Hurrah! Crisp air, lighter skies, tights, furry coats (especially pink ones), Milo- it's my favourite season in the whole year! The weather changed pretty quickly, and it's so nice. You know how a lot of people think it's boring to talk about the weather? I don't. I think that the weather is so interesting. Even just the sky itself is interesting, because God paints it so beautifully. I think that it is amazing how we can see the whole spectrum in the sky.

Oh, and by the way, guess what? I saw a big rainbow on Thursday afternoon! It was so beautiful. I think that they should announce rainbows on the five o'clock news: "And today, Sydneysiders were delighteed to see a rainbow stretching across the skies..." I was on my way to the FEVA First Year Welcome Dinner, and I saw the rainbow from the window of my train. And the train went straight through the centre of it! It was marvellous, and very exciting! I had the best time at the FEVA dinner. I went along to be a waitress. The venue was the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and because I was going in after their opening hours, a lot of the people who work there were being pretty nasty. Like, I think that they thought I was going to steal something! Hello, would a nice innocent girl like me steal something? Anyway, after snaking along the back corridors of the gallery, I finally found the FEVA folk down in the Members' Lounge. The Members' Lounge is a very posh sort of space, with big Australian artworks on the walls, bookcases full of expensive art books, leather lounges and black tables. I realised how much I had missed my FEVA friends. I miss having people know who I am, and having them know my struggles and my hopes. Anyway, I didn't spill anything on anyone apart from myself (I spilt this juice stuff down my top because I got excited when Ben told me he had a girlfriend). The food was donated by this really nice guy, and it consisted of delicate gourmet finger food. As you might know, though, I usually need to eat every two hours or I start to get dizzy, so during Malcolm's talk I stationed myself next to some of the platters and tried to discreetly scoff down bits of cucumber with salmon on them and rockmelon wrapped in proscuitto. Because the dinner wasn't really a dinner, I later found myself at the McDonald's on Pitt St with about ten of the FEVA boys. It was cool listening to Gabriel tell me how he's cousins with the dude in that band that sings "Walky Talky Man". Plus, I discovered that Gabriel usually eats two or three burgers in one sitting at McDonald's!

February the 29th was a pretty significant day, just because it was a leap day and stuff. I hung out with Grace for the first time in about three months. As we were walking to the Art Gallery (my second time in a week!), I was laughing really loudly as Grace was telling me about this boy she went out with called Nut (he said, "Nut, as in Coco-Nut"). Then I heard someone call out, "Carla!" behind me, and it was my friend Mel who used to work at Grace Bros/Myer! And who was with her, but my old friend Adam! Adam is really cool, he used to be friends with my ex, and I always thought that he was a really sweet and interesting guy. He went off to China for a year and a bit to do mission work. Adam ended up joining Grace and I for a rather posh-ish lunch at that cafe facing the Art Gallery. We toasted to the leap year, and had a marvellous conversation. I get frustrated that, as I get older, people always ask things like, "So what do you do now?" and "What are your plans for the future?" I guess that I should have asked Adam more about his mission, but it was more fun just getting along with him and Grace, and laughing with them, and trying to get them to stop smoking. I hope that I remember to hang out with them again on the next leap year. I'll be twenty-six by then- how cool! Man Ray was awesome- I love how he was so playful and experimental. I'm such an art groupie- I always stand really close to the paintings or photographs and get all breathless and go, "I can't BELIEVE they actually touched this WITH THEIR OWN HANDS!" Man Ray's art makes my heart beat a little faster, because it was all so beautiful yet edgy at the same time. No wonder so many pretty girls posed naked for him!

Oh, and I tutored my first two classes on Monday! I LOVE TUTORING! I think that I might want to become a teacher now. I love being able to inspire and guide people. I think that a few of the students already think that I'm a bit loopy, because I was waving my arms around a lot and saying "You've just gotta loosen UP, guys!" I have to say that I'm glad that I'm not marking their work, because I'm a pushover for anyone who says, "I loved your book!" No, just kidding- you guys know that I would be totally fair and stuff.

And next entry will feature the summary of the season. Until then, dear readers.
