To You. Love, Spacegirl Carla xxx Dear faithful readers,
Can you believe that January is over already? January always whizzes by in a warm, lazy haze...I don't think that I'd notice it at all if my birthday wasn't happening during it. Would the year be the same if we didn't have January? January is a very exciting and happy month for me, because it's the beginning of a brand new year and there's also my birthday. But then again, there's also this sense of uncertainty, because I'm never too sure what the year will hold. Plus it's Summer, and I always feel kind of odd during Summer. That's because I'm an Autumn and Winter girl...all of those layers and coats and tights, hurrah! I'd like Spring as well, only I always get sneezy, plus everyone seems to get Spring Fever, which freaks me out. Though the flowers coming out is always very nice and pretty.
Anyway, guess what, dear readers? Lots of exciting things have been happening lately, and here's the lowdown...
1. Birthday I turned 22 on the 28th of January, hurrah! I was so suprised how many people remembered my birthday and sent me e-mails and text-messages or called me or cooked me breakfast! I must have been going on about my birthday more than I thought. Now that I think of it, the weeks leading up to my birthday featured me beginning the majority of my conversations like this:
Carla: Hello, Friend! Friend: Hello, Carla! Carla: GUESS WHAT? I turn 22 soon! Hurrah! Hurrah! Yay!
My sister was super sweet and got up early to make me pancakes! Yay! I meant to go shopping in Newtown that day, but I ended up having a really quiet day instead. My baby brother Zachary was starting a new school that day, and he was a bit nervous about it. So I made sure that I was there to say goodbye to him in the morning, and that I was also there to play with him when he got back. I also had lunch with my mum, which helped her to keep her mind off my brother. So I've decided to have like a birthday festival, which will continue until I actually get a chance to go shopping.
2. Wedding and sunburn I got sunburnt for the very first time in my life at Jennifer Antoniou's wedding on Saturday! The wedding was very typical of her- laid-back and beautiful and slightly dishevelled. It was at Milk Beach, which is a teeny tiny beach at the bottom of a hill in Vaucluse. The wedding guests waited for an hour and a quarter for Jen to arrive, and we all got burnt burnt burnt! I had to keep reminding myself that she was getting married- it was very strange to see her in that beautiful white dress. The wedding had so many distractions- ladies in bikinis strolling past, seaplanes, and this dude in a boat who shouted out "DON'T DO IT!" during the ceremony. I accidentally agreed to lead the singing of the Christian songs with my friend Emily. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, because there were no microphones! Anyway, once I got home at around 2:45pm, I felt all weird and grumpy and kind of dirty. So I went to have a shower, and I discovered that alas, I had been sunburnt for the first time in my life! It hurts and isn't much fun at all! Though it is an interesting experience. I bought this aloe vera gel, and have been rubbing the green slime into my skin all day today. My nose has also decided to peel. I find peeling noses very cute on other people, but I'm not too sure about myself. It makes powdering it not as nice.
3. Miscellaneous adventures with Chat/Chunky Monkey Now that Russell and I have decided to be sidekicks, my nights have been rather eventful with odd adventures. We have tried to give each other sidekick names, but most of them are kind of dumb. My name used to be Funky Punky, and Russell was Chunky Monkey. Only his name didn't make any sense, because he's not Chunky (he weighs the same as me! Argh!) or a Monkey. The other day, he said that we were going to "chat and chill", and then we realised that those were also possible nicknames! So he is Chat (because he talks a lot) and I'm Chill (because I'm always trying to chill, or telling other people to). Anyway, the other night we went to the Symphony in the Domain with the Beachmission crew again, which was lovely but also wet. The symphony played "The Nutcracker Suite", which was beautiful! Then last Saturday night, Russell and I went to the beach and looked in the rockpools for crabs and those slimey things that live inside seashells. It was really nice. And then we watched "Ace Ventura", which wasn't nice, but funny and stupid.
4. A new Bible I bought a new Bible today, and I'm rather excited! You see, I have two other Bibles. One is small and brown, and it's all grimy because it spent four years kicking around in various backpacks throughout my time at uni. My other Bible is big and chunky and purple, and quite cool. It's called "The Quest Bible", and down the sides of the pages it has answers to questions that might pop into one's mind whilst reading God's Word. Oh, and actually, I have a third Bible, which is small and burgandy with a hard cover, and quite nice-looking. Anyway, I decided that I needed a new Bible that was in between small-and-grimy and big-and-chunky. Because guess what? I'm going to start going to Bible study again, for the first time in like a year! I'm so so so excited! Anyway, that is all part of a new story, which I will tell you all, faithful readers, in my next entry. Because I think that it is quite interesting and important, and I've been meaning to write about it for awhile, but I haven't had a chance too.
And so I leave you in suspense!
Yours spacefully, Carla |
