These are my thoughts regarding several important matters.

    THE EXHIBITION
I feel like I should write about this, because my graduate exhibition was quite an important thing to me. The opening night was loads of fun. People were so supportive of me! Lots of my friends and family came along- Mum, Dad, Goong Goong, Por Por, Sonya, Dex, Zachary, Rachel, Ian, Meg, Kerryn, Jono, Steve, Tracy, Ro, Sami, Jamie, Mel, Theresa, Nancy, Joyce, Pete, Erin, Marion and Chris. That's a whole lot of people taking time out of their busy schedules! I spent the night running between where my book was displayed and anywhere that my book wasn't. You see, I'd take my friends over to my book, then strangers would come up and begin to say these extraordinarily nice things about "Love is Elementary". Then I'd get really embarrassed and run away! I didn't want people to think that I was hanging around my own artwork to hear the compliments! Lots of people I didn't know would just come up to me and tell me that they liked my work. It was pretty overwhelming. After the opening ended, we trekked off to The Clare Hotel, where everyone was really drunk. It's funny...everyone would just look at me really sleepily and then try to kiss me. People were also freaked out because I had my hair out and wasn't wearing my glasses. Svets says that I looked "much more elegant and sophisticated." The exhibition then went on for four days. It was so strange- my classmates and I inhabited that temporary space and made it ours for a couple of days. My classmates (or ex-classmates!) are so talented.

    JOBS AND STUFF
It's funny and lovely when people in the graphic design industry tell me that they like my drawings. It surprises me. I've drawn pictures all my life, but I never thought that anyone would take a genuine interest in me and my work. It's really nice that people respond so positively. I guess that when something is part of your life- when writing and drawing and staring at things is normal for you- it is exciting and wonderful when someone says, "I love your work."

    ALISON AND STEVE'S BABY SHOWER
I just came back from Alison and Steve Claxton's baby shower. They were my Bible study leaders from my old church, St Dunstan's. I miss them a lot, and wish that I didn't have to leave their Bible study group (not that I meant to- it just happened). I thought that it was really nice that they thought to invite me to what they called "The Pre-Baby Event of the Century". They signed their e-mail "Alison, Steve and the Mysterious Sidekick". Alison is due in about two weeks, and you can finally see a baby bulge! They are both such lovely people, and they have guided me so much in my walk with God. It was nice to buy things for their baby today.

    RUGBY
Well, England won. That kind of sucks. Though, it was not until tonight that I watched the rugby for the first time since the World Cup began. I was at Alison and Steve's place, and I wanted to be a polite guest and not kick up a "but I'm a non-sporty artist!" fuss. I tried to sit quietly and absorb the game...I didn't want to ask annoying girly questions like "Who's winning?" Last time I asked that question was when I was hanging out with my friend and her boyfriend while he was watching cricket. And I found out that you never know who wins cricket UNTIL THE END OF THE GAME! How dumb is that? Anyway, I observed tonight that rugby is a game that involves impulsive action. I mean, it doesn't seem like the players really think about the best way of doing things. Like how they lift up a player to catch the ball. And, if the ball's on the ground, then they just jump on it. And if that doesn't work, then they ALL jump on it. And if THAT doesn't work, then EVERYONE jumps on it! And what's with scrums? I just don't get it. But I must say that even though I don't get rugby, I do dig the positive vibe that it creates. I think that we can be cynical about so many things- the government, "Australian Idol" (only if you're like me and too cool to admit that you actually care who wins), holidays like Christmas- that to have people be so positive about the Wallabies is pretty cool.

    THE RULES OF CHARITY EISTEDDFODS
I went to Derrick's charity eisteddfod last night, and as I was watching, Luke's "Rules of Rock" were running through my mind. Luke made up the "Rules of Rock" while we were watching the Shapeshifter boys in the UNSW Battle of the Bands. Luke reckons that if two people in the same band wear ties, then they cancel each other out in terms of making a good fashion statement. Here's what I came up with:

    > Are you a single and beautiful fifteen-year-old girl? Then being in the audience of the Hornsby Charity Eisteddfod is where you should have been last night. Wear your best singlet and stripey ra-ra skirt, and top it all off with a snazzy little visor from Supre. Who cares that you don't need protection from the sun at night!
    > Hey, were you too young to audition for "Australian Idol"? Too busy trying to figure out 2-unit Maths, when you could have been strutting your stuff for Thingo and the Diva and the Bling-Bling-Touchdown people? Well, performing in the Hornsby Charity Eisteddfod is where you should have been!
    > If you're in a dance act, look as though you want to be there. If you're in a rock band act, look as though you don't.
    > Never, ever lip-synch to the lyrics if you're in a dance act. Especially if you're a boy.

That's all I can think of now, because I have to go to bed. Derrick was mightily bummed out because the band that won was a band of GIRLS, who called themselves "Tom, Dick and Harry". Derrick thinks that songs like Jet's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl", Powderfinger's first single from "Live from Vulture Street" (I forgot what it's called) and The White Stripes' "Fell in Love with a Girl" should never be played in a charity eisteddfod, OR in a medley. And ESPECIALLY not by girls! All I have to say to that is this: those girls ROCKED! Give me a girl with a studded belt and electric guitar and guts, and you've got my vote, baby.
