    carla and sonya: a comparison
Sonya had her interview for the Fashion and Textiles degree today. I met her at uni afterwards, and we sat down and had a nice chat over lunch. I think that she felt a little like how I felt after my presentation on Thursday- shaken and strange. So of course we tried to fix it by drinking hot chocolate and coffee and talking about God. We both looked so different today, as is always the case. She was wearing this lovely black three-quarter length top, wide-legged distressed jeans, and trendy Adidas karate shoes. She had her thick, long black hair out. I was wearing this denim skirt that I'd hacked, a bright green t-shirt that Gracie had designed which I'd also hacked, my self-chopped hair in pigtails, and my bright pink Cons with the wrong socks. Sometimes my sister and I are like night and day. On Halloween, we were both going to costume parties. She went as an angel, wearing a cool and classy white top she'd made and these lovely fluffy white wings she'd hired. She was going for a very minimalistic look. Meanwhile, I was in the bathroom listening to Britney Spears, wearing mostly bright pink, trying to put as much glitter onto my face and hair as possible.

Perhaps the reason why I am writing so thoughtfully about my sister today is because I am currently reading "I Capture the Castle", by Dodie Smith. It is a delightful book, written without self-consciousness. It features all the things I like- a devoted and handsome boy named Stephen, an old castle, lots of rhapsodising over nature, and emotional writing. Anyway, a main part of the story is about two sisters, and how they are both different and similar.

Anyway, yesterday, I found out that my sister at times can have a complete disregard for the notion of celebrity. We were talking about how she went to see "Australian Idol", and she was telling me how she thinks it's silly how girls scream over all the boys in the show. Then I said, "But what about Marcia Hines? She is so cool!" Sonya said, "Yeah, she's cool. She's such a diva. Marina and I were sitting in front of her. I was really hungry, and Marcia was eating Starburst lollies, so I turned around and asked her for some." And I was like, "NO! You did not! What did you say?" And Sonya replied, "I was hungry! What else was I going to do? I just turned around and said, 'Can I have one?' and Marcia said, 'Yeah!'" We then practiced talking like Marcia Hines- "It ain't nothin' to do with comfort" and "You tell it like it is, girlfriend!"
