carla's taste pre-ben folds five phase Guess what? Today I finally found the CD I've been searching for, for ages and ages and ages. "MARVIN THE ALBUM", Frente's debut LP! Hurrah! I have been searching high (Fish Records, HMV) and low (Rozelle Markets) for this wonderful wonderful CD, and today my search ended with success at the upstairs level of Red Eye Records.
When I went to buy it, the guy at the counter asked me how I was. "I'm good, thanks...really happy now that I found this CD," I told him. "I'm glad you're happy, because this is a really nice album," he told me. Then he asked me if I was old enough to have seen them live (they broke up about seven years ago or something), and I said no. I was only around ten when I first heard their album. "Did you see them live?" I asked him, with awe. "Yes- two nights in a row. It was really nice- they were really close, and it was a really intimate performance. They were lovely and pretty and sweet and nice, and everything that they should have been." That was such a splendid thing to hear! I thought that it was really nice and generous of him to share his Frente experiences with me. Because you don't have to talk to the girl buying the Frente album from you, do you? Anyway, he told me that Frente had another album called "Shape", which came after "Marvin the Album", and he said that he thought that it was better. PLUS, once Angie Hart left Frente, she and her husband started another band called "Splendid". Isn't that so exciting? "I think that Waikiki sound a little like Frente," I told the guy. Which was a scary thing to say, because everyone at Red Eye Records knows so much about music. I thought that he'd say something like, "NO, Waikiki sound nothing like Frente, don't you know ANYTHING?" But he agreed with me, which was nice!
As you can tell, I'm really chuffed about my new CD. I've wanted this CD ever since my uncle played it to me when I was a kid. Whenever I went to visit him at my grandparent's house (he would have been twenty-four or something), I always asked to listen to "Marvin the Album". That, and "Love Shack" from the B-52's album, "Cosmic Thing". Frente makes such happy and girly music! I can't wait to get home so I can listen to the album! |
