i got the major project blues If I knew any bluesy-type chord progressions, you can be sure I'd be pumping out a new song quick smart. That is, if I had the time. Sigh. While there are lovely things happening in my life, I have to say that the major project is getting me down. It's really tiring and monotonous and sad, sad, sad. Basically, all day I sit in front of the computer designing and kerning (Courier New is SUCH a bad font to kern), or I cut up stuff and glue it down. It doesn't feel very healthy. It is fun every now and then, but a lot of the time I wish that I was hanging out with friends or just doing something a little less self-indulgent. I have to try really hard to stay motivated with this, and to keep persevering. There are many upsides to this major project, though. Like, I finish my degree in a couple of weeks! Isn't that fantastic? Also, I've realised that I really do want to tell the story about Kate and Toby that I wrote. And the project challenges me a lot in my design and conceptual skills. I guess it's just hard being challenged all day every day.
Meanwhile, I had a fabulous weekend. On Saturday, Megsy DROVE to my house to visit me! Isn't that cool? She looked so grown-up in her car. During the summer, we'd both talk about the driving lessons we had (that was before I said goodbye to Barry). I'd encourage her about her driving- I didn't need encouraging at that time, mostly because I didn't really care and I just drove because it was funny and because it made me feel somewhat reckless. Anyway, now Meg has her P's, and she can drive out of her ol' Shire down to the north west to visit ME! We had a lovely time, colouring in a colouring book while listening to Justin Timberlake (she does the guy's bit in "Senorita", and I do the girl's bit). Then we sat outside in the sun and ate fairy bread. It's so nice to have a best friend. Sunday was another Meg day- after work, I hightailed it to the city, where Meg and I looked around at all the shops. If I wasn't trying to save money, I would buy those pink bangles at Portmans with glitter on the inside! We drove off to church together, and she let me spend time with the boy that everyone teases me about.
Oh, and something wonderful happened! I'm sure that many people are tiring of this fascination of mine, but I must tell you, because it is so exciting. You know how I've been jonesing for the fourth and fifth "Princess Diaries" books? Well, my sister has had this terrible cold for the past couple of days, and during her illness, she's been reading my three "Princess Diaries" books. And she, too, is now addicted! Hurrah! Why is this especially useful? Well, Sonya is the proud owner of a Sydney Uni scholarship (she got 99.9 for a UAI), and has also been working her butt off at Oroton. Which means, in more colloquial terms, that she has the bling bling (if I have my Selwyn terminology right). Hence, she has purchased "Mia goes Fourth" and "Give me Five"! Hurrah! And she's letting me read them! Oh...I love Michael Moscovitz so much. I dearly want to meet him.
One thing that really made me stop and think today was this: I still know the dance steps to the theme song sequence of "The Drew Carey Show", after not watching that sitcom for, like, five years, because I realised that it really wasn't that funny at all. That's kind of weird, isn't it? I can also do that falling-down kinda thing that Beyonce does in the beginning of her "Crazy in Love" clip, though sadly I don't have any heels to wear so that I can practice it properly. |
