reviews: today, yesterday, the project, books and music I think that today must have been the warmest day of the season so far (although we are only really five days into Spring). I didn't have to wear as many jumpers as I usually do when I'm in the house. Which is really great, because my house is kind of like a refrigerator. I woke up late and ate cinnamon toast with my tea, and then sat outside in the sun and played my guitar. I didn't get as much work done as I wanted to today. Yesterday, my teacher Andrew kinda freaked me out. Which was a bit weird, because he was being really positive about my work so far. He can see that I'm trying to work Christian elements into my story (like the ideas of wisdom, purity, faith and hope), and he started to declare a few things: "This is the spiritual guidebook for the new millenium! You are creating the visual language for new spirituality!" Those statements really scared me. Because, while I want my project to point to God, I don't want it to be seen as a guide to life or anything. My major project is supposed to be something fun and interesting that is also real and emotional. It's supposed to make people assess their own lives, and their own relationship with God. It's meant to point to the Bible- it's not actually meant to BE a Bible!
Here are two reviews: "THE PRINCESS DIARIES- THIRD TIME LUCKY", by Meg Cabot. I was a little disappointed by this book. Books 1 and 2 were both quite eventful, and featured a lot of really interesting and silly characters. "Third Time Lucky" basically recycles all of the jokes from books 2 and 3, and the new characters introduced weren't nearly as funny as Hank, Mamaw and Papaw from "Take Two". However, if you happen to be a semi-gloomy design student with no social life who fancies herself to be a princess, this is the book to make you laugh while sitting on the bus. Also, who can resist the sweetness of Michael Moscovitz? Something I did really like about "Third Time Lucky" is that Mia grows up a lot, and also gains a little self-esteem. Also, a few of the more comical characters such as Boris Pelkowski become a little more human. I still really want "The Princess Diaries: Mia Goes Fourth". And ooh, the fifth book has just been released, with a funky cover featuring Mia and her cat, Fat Louie, dancing under a disco ball!
"FIRST WORK"- Thirsty Merc's debut EP. Well, I totally wanted to write a breathless review of this CD. As you may know, I have been captivated by Thirsty Merc's music clip for "Wasting Time". Not only does it feature sunny suburban streets (one of my favourite things), the song is just stellar- sweet and simple and vulnerable and a CRUSH SONG. But alas, it seems that "Wasting Time" is going to be the only track I listen to on this EP. The other four tracks on the EP made me feel incredibly guilty for being a girl, and they made me wish that I'd never spoken to any boy in my entire life. Because, through speaking to any boy, I could have unwittingly caused the bitter anger and aching heart experienced by Rai Thistlethwayte (lead singer).
It's 11pm? How can that be? Well, midnight's the only place to be if you're a music reviewer. Just ask Penny Lane and that kid from "Almost Famous". |
