vroom vroom! accelerate, baby! I'm on a very positive spin at the moment. I don't really have the energy to be sad anymore. So pow, I'm exercising, telephoning people, organising things, listening to happy music (lots of Kylie and J.Lo and Waikiki and Emu Live) and generally running around and being active. All to the sound of "Independent Women Part 1" by Destiny's Child!
So yesterday, I decided that it was time for me to pick up the driving lessons again. This time I had to get a new teacher (after Barry's post-Vines lesson of backwards figure-eights in a carpark). Her name is Saroj, and as I discovered today, she is really cool! She has this motherly vibe, and ten minutes into the lesson she had me telling her about various aspects of my private life. She's very protective, too. As this was my first lesson in like, six months or something, I wasn't quite sure what I was doing. I went around this corner too slowly, and this dude in the van behind me was getting annoyed. He honked his horn and opened his mouth to shout something. But Saroj got in quicker- she leaned over me and yelled out my window to him, "DON'T SAY ANYTHING! STOP IT! STOP IT!" I thought that it was so funny! I thought that looking at him and saying "Duuude," in my best princess-slash-Charlie's-Angel's voice would have been sufficient, but obviously Saroj felt that motherly aggression was the way to go. I spent much of the lesson laughing. I'm afraid that I don't take my lessons too seriously, and find that any mistake that I make to be highly amusing. Like, forgetting where the brake is, and forgetting the difference between "push-pull" steering and "hand-over-hand"!
I've also been sitting down and working as conscientiously as I can on my major project. It's going pretty well. I have to say, though, that I'm a little worried that I'll go stir-crazy this semester. Because I only have to go to uni one day a week! Today, I found myself making up things that I "needed" to do- like painting my nails and calling up work to check my roster.
Oh, and here's some MYC highlights I forgot to share: > Bonding with the girls while waiting for our turn to shower. > Sneaking into the main hall to blowdry my hair with Ro, and then pretending that we were either running in windy tunnels or posing in fashion shoots with wind machines. > Playing nurse and fetching ice-packs for injured soccer players. > Getting crazy on the first night and singing Avril at the top of my lungs in the showers, until Rachel whispered at my cubicle door, "Carla, the showers are right next to the bedrooms, and people can hear every word you're saying." Well, I heard her after shouting, "What? WHAT?" too many times. > Witnessing displays of heroic friendship from SO many wonderful FEVA people. > Singing my mock-Rebecca St James "Future Husband Song" to Rossie, Malcolm's daughter! > Eating pancakes with maple syrup overlooking the lake on Friday. |
