Where the hell is my chifon??? Holy shit. My costume looks AWESOME.
I'll have to post pics. It fits flawlessly. I sewed it all myself...the hems, the seams, everything. I draped, pinned, adjusted, and cut everything myself, and I had no one to help me, and it looks AWESOME.
And no, I did not use a pattern.
It has two layers: one satin, one chifon. It has one shoulder, and it goes about to the ankle, and it has a thigh high slit up the front left leg side. It has a gold, open pattern trim that I attached around the bottom and top and around both sides of the slit, and it has a gold rope belt that circles right under the breasts for an empire look.
I also used this green, leafy, vine-y stuff to fashion a crown, and I spray painted it metallic gold, and it looks awesome!
Take that, bitches!
I told these two ladies at work that I was making my own costume, and I guess they're big into sewing, and they were all like...
You can't do it without a pattern. How are you going to do it without a pattern?? You don't even know how to sew, let alone cut. You should try and get a pattern. You'll never have enough time...your fabric is going to pucker without a baste stitch or a basque stitch or whatever the hell she called it....blah, blah, blah...tons of negative, doubting bs.
And here I am...wearing my totally fabulous costume.
I know it sounds weird, but it's just...
Who makes anything anymore?
In a way, it's very cool to actually think about something, go through the creative process, and come out with something tangible that's totally yours.
And yes, I'm going to be that weirdo at the Halloween party saying, "I sewed it myself!" with gleeful pride.
The creative process, in any of its myriad forms, always excites me, and this is no different.
