1:31p - (Almost) Free Books!
This morning I went out to return books to various libraries, my backpack crammed as full as it can be. When I got to Bobst I learned that there was going to be a book sale at noon, so I stuck around. I made sure to go where the book sale was to be well ahead of its opening, so I was one of the first 3 people to look at all the shelves. Here's what I got:

Martin Gilbert. Russian History Atlas - 50¢
Last year I was upset that I couldn't check out this book from Bobst (it is in the reference section). It would have made my alternate history writing a bit easier. Now I own a copy

Garcilaso de la Vega. The Incas - 25¢
According to the front cover, this is "the classic account of the rise and fall of a great American civilization." We'll see about that, but it cost a quarter, looks quite interesting, and is certainly a much better purchase than Lanning's Peru Before the Incas, which I mistakenly bought for a dollar at Strand.

G.C. Vaillant. The Aztecs of Mexico - 25¢
I've heard this is good… Wow, the two postcards that just fell out of these book are worth more than the price I paid for the book! A Diego Rivera fresco from the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City and a Chávez Morado mural. They are from… (*smells postcards*) the late 1960s. Speaking of Diego Rivera, I found a good quote from him in my research last night. "When you say 'America' you refer to the territory stretching between the icecaps of the two poles. So to hell with your barriers and frontier guards!"

William Prescott. The Conquest of Mexico - 50¢
Still in very nice condition for being printed in 1934. Still a classic account. I considered buying this with my discount at Barnes and Noble in a relatively cheap volume that includes it and The Conquest of Peru. I'm glad I didn't.

William Prescott. The Conquest of Peru - 50¢
Hmm, this is just Volume 1. Oh well, I know how it ends anyway.

Basil Davidson, F.K. Buah. A History of West Africa to the Nineteenth Century - 25¢
Really good stuff in here. I will probably wind up loaning this to Dave and/or Rich sometime.

Cowan, David. Modern Literary Arabic - 25¢
Nothing like old language textbooks.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Year 1200 - $4
marginalia, you used it for class and returned it Bobst. Now you own it. It is an "almost finished with finals" present.
