Wilmington Waterfront Park was designed to serve as a buffer between Port operations and adjacent residences. The project called for the widening of Harry Bridges Boulevard and constructing a new 30-acre buffer area between C Street and Harry Bridges Boulevard. The park was constructed on adjacent, vacant Port-owned property. The park’s 16-foot high slope along the south border serves as a noise barrier and offers elevated views of the harbor. Construction of the park began in 2009 and was completed in June 2011 at a total cost of $55 million.

Cyprus seeks to boost Middle East tourist numbers with ATM push - Travel Guides, Travel Tips
The Cyprus Tourism Organisation, to further increase awareness of the charms of the island paradise.

The xx-strong delegation led by Cyprus Tourism Organisation Board Member Alexis Saveriades include representatives of leading hotels and resorts, tour operators and DMCs including: Azia Resort & Spa, Hilton Cyprus, Korona Tours & Travel, Le Meridien Limassol Spa & Resort, Leptos Calypso Hotels Public Ltd, Lordos Beach Hotel, Lordos Hotels (Holdings) Ltd, Palm Beach Hotel & Bungalows and Stademos Hotels Plc.

Tourists from the Middle East form an increasingly significant segment of the 2.4 million tourists who visited Cyprus last year, with the UAE and Lebanon being the largest source countries. According to figures released by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, tourists from the UAE stayed an average of 7.7 days on the island last year, where they spent about AED 3,555 per head. The island’s reputation as a safe, all-weather destination for the entire family is an important deciding factor for tourists from the Middle East.

Not too far away from most regional cities, rapidly improving air links have also facilitated the growth in tourism, which increased 10.1% overall last year. Additional attractions drawing Middle Eastern visitors to Cyprus include the proliferation of top-class hotels, eco-friendlly blue-flag beaches, a plethora of historical sites of archeological interest and a friendly and welcoming local populace. With many of the more traditional holiday spots in the region getting affected by regional tensions, Cyprus’ political stability and reputation enhance its position as a preferred destination.

“The countries of the GCC and the wider Middle East have immense potential as drivers of tourism growth to Cyprus,” said Vassilis Theocharides, Director of Cyprus Tourism Organisation’s Middle East and Arabian Gulf Office. “We are looking to further increase awareness in the region about the advantages of Cyprus as an all-season destination at this year’s Arabian Travel Market and thus further increase the inflow of tourists from the region. “ Cyprus is just a short haul flight away from most Arab cities and the island, though small in size, is big in variety, offering a range of climate types in close proximity that are extremely easy to access. The history and culture of the island’s ancient civilization is an even greater plus point.

The Port of Los Angeles for 2012- 2017. "It is this kind of strategic thinking that helped the Port become one of the nation's leading economic engines, and meeting the strategic plan's objectives will ensure our future success."

"This strategic plan will ensure that the Port remains competitive over the coming years and proactively meets the challenges of a new era of international trade," said Harbor Commission President Cindy Miscikowski.

"Changing economic tides will require new and innovative approaches and a forward-thinking game plan," said Port Executive Director Geraldine Knatz, Ph.D. "This newly adopted strategic roadmap provides a clear path to assure the Port’s future success in the global marketplace."

As the Port faces increasing competitive challenges in the coming years, the plan's "competitive operations" component includes initiatives focused on developing and maintaining a world-class infrastructure; retaining and growing market share; advancing technology and sustainability, as well as optimizing land use.

The Los Angeles Harbor Commission today unanimously adopted a five-year strategic plan for the Port of Los Angeles for 2012- 2017. The plan focuses on three key result areas, or KRAs – competitive operations, strong relationships and financial strength. It maps out the Port’s priorities, objectives and various initiatives for developing infrastructure, enhancing overall competitiveness, growing market share, optimizing land use, advancing maritime technologies and sustainability efforts, and maintaining the Port’s top ranking as the nation’s trade gateway to the Pacific Rim.

"This plan is a blueprint for responsible growth and job creation that will guide us toward maintaining our competitive advantage as the nation's premier trade gateway," said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. "It is this kind of strategic thinking that helped the Port become one of the nation's leading economic engines, and meeting the strategic plan's objectives will ensure our future success."

ICTP supports call for a moratorium on EU Emissions Trading Scheme and urgent action by ICAO - Trav
There is an old adage that say’s there’s your view and there’s my view – and there’s the truth that’s somewhere in between. That’s where it seem to be on the increasingly heated story about whether airlines should be part of the EU Trading or a global scheme developed in ICAO.

The EU says we are only pushing it now because we have waited ten years for ICAO action. The industry says it’s complex, it involves sovereign states and we are achieving something finally in ICAO

And both views as any objective analyst will tell you have some merit – the time has come for action, not talk at a global level and a big factor is the pressure of the EU regional scheme really coming into force.

Which is why, as South African Tourism Minister Van Schalkwyk stated cogently in at the Air Transport Summit last week, a moratorium would allow the necessary breathing space for aviation negotiators to go the last mile.in harmony with evolving climate accords.

ICTP supports this view because sustainable aviation growth is pivotal to global economic wellbeing and a trade war at a time of fragile economic recovery is in nobody’s interest. Above all a temporary moratorium will really only have a small carbon impact in a long term battle to stabilize the earth’s temperature. Particularly for an industry which is so fundamentally international and which is now committed to a range of carbon reduction programs, through smarter operating patterns, new aircraft and engine technologies - with promising breakthroughs in clean biofuel on the horizon.

Such a moratorium will not only encourage a global emission trading scheme – it will also give time for European States to avoid double dip green taxation and rationalize a trading scheme that collects money from auctioning permits to pay for carbon emissions with parallel action by key member states to collect taxes introduced allegedly to help reduce carbon emissions. So it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that a true leadership solution for Europe is to take a “Time Out” and for ICAO to step up to the plate and deliver on a global scheme with the full support of the industry – not just talk about it.

And if it fails to deliver then the EU has every reason to push forward - but hopefully with a clear leadership in avoiding double dip taxation and double standards for this important economic sector.

“We have just attended a fair in Russia and found that this market holds strong growth potential. The target of 300,000 tourists in 2014 is quite ambitious but achievable if the said measures are taken,” said Huong. VNAT last month joined the Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition 2012, together with 13 Vietnamese tour operators and hotels, as well as representatives of key tourist provinces like Binh Thuan. At the event, many partners suggested extending the visa-free stay to 30 days from the current 15 days because Russian tourists usually have long holidays.

Moreover, the foreign partners recommended Vietnam operate scheduled flights between its local tourist destinations and Russia so that visitors will not have to travel an additional distance after arriving in Hanoi and HCMC.

Vietnam-Russia air services, Huong said, connect Vietnam’s major cities and Moscow, which is far from Russia’s Far East region where most Russian tourists to Vietnam come from. Therefore, Russian tourists often choose to fly to Vietnam on chartered flights. However, under a market development strategy, VNAT focuses on luring visitors on scheduled flights. “The daily flights from Hanoi or HCMC to Moscow are now fully occupied by Russians, but we still lack air links to other cities,” said Huong. After becoming one of Vietnam’s top ten visitor-generating markets, Russian tourist arrivals picked up 27.1% in March, the second highest monthly growth rate after South Korea. In the first two months of the year, there were more than 56,000 Russians coming to Vietnam, versus the 100,000 in all of last year.

Russian tourists prefer the country’s coastal resort towns in Binh Thuan and Khanh Hoa. In late April this year, Russians will start arriving on daily chartered flights in Danang and from there they can travel to the World Heritage-listed ancient town of Hoi An in neighboring Quang Nam Province.

The Spa Express at Four Seasons Hotel Dublin offers Sodashi Treatments - Travel Guides, Travel Tips
Juggling a busy career, home and social life can leave one with very little time to relieve the stress of everyday living, and that’s why the Conductors of Calm at The Spa in Four Seasons Hotel Dublin will apply a Sodashi aromatic compress with lemon extract to gently exfoliate the face, leaving a clear and even skin tone. The therapist will then offer an anti-ageing Sodashi signature facial massage, which increases blood circulation and aids the process of cell renewal, leaving skin radiant and one wonderfully relaxed.

Summer is fast approaching and to help prepare to bare all by the pool, there's a Sodashi Cleanse and De-Stress Back Treatment at EUR 85.00 for 40 minutes. Backs are often neglected in winter's woolly jumpers and scarves, but this Sodashi treatment using aromatic oils will cleanse the back of any impurities while soothing and relaxing muscle tensions. The treatment begins with an aromatic compress that gently exfoliates the skin, followed by a tension-relieving back massage. The therapist will then use Body Balance salts, which alleviate muscle tension and improve circulation. Finally, Sodashi’s deep relaxing body lotion is applied leaving skin soft, refreshed and more importantly, beach ready.

The Spa equivalent of a power nap, both of these treatments last just 40 minutes so one can enjoy the serenity of a trip to The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Dublin but still have plenty of time to hurry home to get ready for a big night out feeling refreshed and relaxed with a glow inside and outside.
