Just sit still for an hour D is back. Though she wore her fiercest shirt, she couldn't keep the cats from exploiting her warmness. Current Mood: content | | Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 | | 10:13 pm |
Doesn't look like they're going anywhere "If cats seem distant and aloof, it is because this is not their native planet - they are here just to visit and dominate." ~ Hank Roll nikon Current Mood: calm | | Saturday, November 8th, 2008 | | 5:20 pm |
Need a personal trainer Maybe the cats were eating all day because they're bored, bored, bored. We've started trying to play more active cat games with Puddin' and Boo. You know, get their primal hunting instincts stirred up so they'll sleek down like the mighty hunters of their ancestry. But the stalking and leaping we envisioned hasn't really started yet. They'd get more exercise playing a video game . . . or eating. (Boo's back foot, however, is ready for anything.) Current Mood: bored | | Friday, October 31st, 2008 | | 6:08 pm |
Crazy thoughts The cats have been unusually quiet today. .jpg) Hmmm. Where can I find a kilo of catnip? Current Mood: determined | | Thursday, October 30th, 2008 | | 2:25 pm |
Deceptively dainty After a hard day of living, Puddin' relaxes and flexes her mighty arsenal of daggers. .jpg) dz Current Mood: lazy | | Friday, October 17th, 2008 | | 2:33 pm |
Does this make him Republican? Boo took time out of his busy schedule to watch a little political coverage on TV. He liked Cindy McCain. "Where'd she go??" Current Mood: anxious | | Monday, October 13th, 2008 | | 11:18 pm |
Unacceptable! The cats' personal physician has made some recommendations about feeding time. Puddin' has gained almost (.8) a pound in one year. Not such a big deal. But Boo gained one and a half pounds. So no more bowls of food sitting around for kitties to lazily snack on whenever they want. They each get a quarter cup of food, twice a day. In between feeding times, the bowls are put away. "Where is MY bowl?" Look out, Boo. Current Mood: infuriated | | Friday, October 10th, 2008 | | 12:42 pm |
Fully vetted Puddin' and Boo went for annual physicals today. Puddin' awaits her terrible fate. The vet listened to their hearts and mooshed their guts, generally feeling around for anything unusual. This vet is so good that when she gave each cat their 2 shots they didn't feel a thing. Boo's turn. He looks worried. While we're here, might as well look around. The good news: they're both healthy. The bad news: Boo is a hefty 15 pounds! Time for the diet food. Current Mood: discontent | | Monday, October 6th, 2008 | | 10:53 am |
The mind of Boo I do not know how this works, I'm just an observer around here. As you may recall, Boo got his head slammed in the refrigerator door earlier this year. Naturally, for several weeks after the incident, Boo did not like the refrigerator. If he was in the kitchen when the fridge door opened, he left in a panicked hurry. Then he seemed to notice that the kitchen trash can is stainless steel just like the fridge. Anyway, he was suddenly horrified when the trash can lid lifted up. His ears would go back and his paws could not move fast enough to get him OUT OF THERE. Then, Boo decided that aluminum foil was bad. Yikes, it's so shiny! Yikes, it's so noisy. Lemmee outta here! But Boo is naturally . . . curious so after avoiding the refrigerator door for a while, it must have seemed new and interesting. So he is back to sticking his head into the fridge whenever it opens. And this trash can fear-thing is so inconvenient since it opens most often when food is around. So he ignores the lid going up and down now. Foil is still loud, but mayybe not so bad and mayyybe it's fun. But the storm door! Boo poked his paw through just as it was closing and his paw got mashed. The storm door is EVIL. *sigh* Current Mood: sympathetic | | Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 | | 9:53 pm |
Second kittenhood . . . already? Because I have upgraded computer and softwares to the level of my incompetence (I haven't figured out how to bend Aperture2 to my will yet) I am unable at this time to include new pictures of the fascinating Puddin' and Boo. So, I'll have to narrate the strange goings-on of Puddin' since her birthday on June 15th (a mere 3 entries ago). Puddin' has been a regular, all-around cat. She attacked our ankles as a kitten, did silly playful stuff as a young cat, and calmed down as she got older. She loved climbing her cat "tree" and chasing crumpled paper and putting headless catnip mice in our shoes. Normal stuff. When Boo arrived, she got crabbier and a little more withdrawn because Boo was instant chaos injected into her lovely routine world. She still did cat stuff, including rumbling through the house at top speed on occasion, but Boo was the attention grabber. Puddin' spent most of her time trying to pretend like he wasn't there and getting jolted back into reality. Last August, Puddin' got a sore tooth pulled. That made her a little bit less crabby but she kept up her regal contemptuousness. But then, somehow, something happened on June 15th. We gave Puddin' her great new present . . . . . . and she played and played and played . . . and hasn't stopped being playful since! It's wonderful to see her having so much fun, but mysterious, too. She plays a lot with the b'day thing. She stalks stuff that we hide under her towel. She hides things under her towel. She's even chasing and tussling with Boo. No lovey-dovey stuff of course; it's all perfectly predatory and fierce, but still . . . ! She has completely transformed back into her young-cat self. ???? Boo has never seen this side of Puddin' and gets worried and confused, especially when Puddin' chases him back. But then he forgets that he's confused and falls asleep, so I guess he's fine. Gotta catch 'em all B and DZ finally got their long-awaited package from Greece. But first, Boo, the resident package inspector and puzzle master, must look things over. Huzzah! Boo gives his approval (and wants first dibs on that bulgy big one). Current Mood: curious | | Friday, June 27th, 2008 | | 10:02 pm |
Driving Boo buggy I found a male Giant Stag Beetle on the back deck tonight. Boo must be, like, a scientist or something. He was completely fascinated. After taking some pictures, I decided to release the beetle outdoors, before Boo could release it INDOORS. Such curiosity. dz/nikon Current Mood: predatory | | Sunday, June 15th, 2008 | | 9:32 pm |
Birthday cat! Today has been Puddin's birthday. She's six years old. To celebrate, there were treats which had varying degrees of success. The usual Feline Greenies and the Friskies "Mooshy, Smelly Liver Things" were happily devoured. The SPECIAL treat didn't go over so well. I read a book that touted the wonders of canned pumpkin. Oooo, cats love pure, unadulterated canned pumpkin gushed the author. So I got some. Nummy Numm? Each cat got a teaspoonful on a little plate. Boo sniffed his and licked a bit, then wandered away. Puddin' looked her pumpkin blob over and turned her back on it. This means it immediately ceased to exist, forever (though, somehow, I still had to dump it in the trash and wash the plate). Come to think of it, that most informative book also suggested feeding one's cat salmon and Cornish game hen. Maybe if I had bagged a few live pheasants and let them crash through the house, covered in pumpkin, it might have been much more popular. Anyway, after that miserable faux pas, Puddin' got her presents and the birthday celebration was saved! Puddin' and Boo actually played together for a moment. Then they played separately, watching each other's technique. Happy Birthday to you, Puddin'! Current Mood: satisfied | | Friday, June 13th, 2008 | | 1:44 am |
Middle of a stretch D caught Boo in an unguarded, googly-eyed moment. Current Mood: blank | | Thursday, June 5th, 2008 | | 12:27 am |
Good times D is back for the summer. She has boxes and bags and luggage. Puddin' and Boo are sure it's all an amusement park just for them. Current Mood: busy | | Sunday, June 1st, 2008 | | 3:28 pm |
It's unusable Darn. The bathroom sink is clogged again. Current Mood: mellow | | Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 | | 5:11 pm |
Still legal Found a new internet cat supply place called . . . errr . . . Cat Faeries. Their toys are all organic and handmade and not from China. Finally, the cats' order has come. Mmmm, smells good. Puddin' enjoys an all-natural, felted wool, organic catnip corn-on-the-cob. Boo arrives. Is he disappointed that Puddin' got to the toy first? Naw. Boo would rather roll on the catnip-scented packing paper. Gee, that would have been cheaper. Current Mood: giddy | | Tuesday, May 20th, 2008 | | 6:13 pm |
Love watchin' those primaries American politics has been very interesting this year, especially the presidential race. Who will be our newest president? Will it be the young, idealistic Obama? Tough insider, Clinton? Or experienced, patriotic McCain? Tune in this November! (Meanwhile, tonight we'll watching the Kentucky and Oregon primary results.) Current Mood: excited | | Sunday, May 18th, 2008 | | 7:26 pm |
Boo philosophy I was thinking that I'd wash some bedding today. Boo said that laundry can wait, but naps can't. He can be pretty smart sometimes, that Boo. Current Mood: sleepy | | Friday, May 9th, 2008 | | 11:35 pm |
He's the chosen one DZ gets to be Puddin's furniture before he's even fully awake. Current Mood: satisfied |
