El Final

My journals have lost their appeal, it seems. Aside from a very small minority, no one is left on either one. Without the connection to people it really does lose it's meaning, does it not? Anyways, guess this and the other are going the way of the infinite internet dead letter box... Fun while it lasted but it really did end years ago, I guess.

Exit stage left, quietly.

This space for rent.

Just about everything is taken care of and done and gone. Only thing left is to get a few forms mailed off, and to get Monkeychild's B-day card out as well (it's her b-day today). Seems like everything is in line and ready. I'm supposed to check-in at the Patrick AFB terminal by 7:30. Manifests, roll calls, rental turn-ins, luggage inspections, this and that, and should be heading out for the plane by 11:30, should be in the air and heading south to Antigua by 1 PM. Four hours to there, 90 minute layover, and then the big push out to Ascension...probably 8-10 hours. So on that note, peace out cubscout!

News Stuff

This is from a new article a read today, "Kentucky spends more than $18,600 to house one inmate for a year, or roughly $51 a day. In California, each inmate costs an average of $46,104 to incarcerate." WTF mate?! You have got to be kidding me. To think, I know people that make (or are worth) 2/3 or less than that of your average Californian inmate. Got that warm fuzzy now?

Work Woes

So I wasn't able to get my new CAC (ID) card today. The DEERS server is having mucho issues a "collision" with two of my previous card issues. Apparently the one that was issued at Ft. Benning and the one that was issued in the embassy at Baghdad have dates that are in error. Dunno how that works, and I am wondering why they wouldn't have showed up on the computers when the embassy issued my last card. Anyways, so what this means is bleh! Really. I can't log on to the air force computers, I can't finish some of my training, and I can't do a few other things either. CSR may have to send me down range without one, which will be a serious pain in the arse.

*sigh* It ain't easy bein the king.

Addendum...?

Did I mention that said use of movers ended up costing me ~1300? Yeah. Another reason to not be a lazy arse.

I want a cookie :(

Flight for Florida is in the morning. Not much of an issue. Doing a quickie last load of laundry, but other than that everything is set. Greta is curled up next to me asleep under the sheet; poor thing, I doubt she understands why I keep leaving her. Will miss that silly pooch.

Somehow, even with all my worldy possessions in storage and living out of a single bag, I still feel like I am forgetting something... WTF might it be?

I still want a cookie.

Movin' Day

Moving Day is here again. I always love this time of year! *end joyfull sarcasm* Anyways, yeah. Have spent most of the morning gettings the last dredges of junk ready to be re-admitted to storage. Have discovered using movers is more a pain in the hind end than doing it one's self. I could have been out of here in 2 days, tops, but its taken me 4-5 to get things ready to be moved by someone else. Asinine idea. To think, that I am also paying these guys 90-95 bucks an hour to do it. *sigh* Fudge it.

So once again I am down to a bag's worth of possessions, read as clothes and the puter. Having a box sent out to me once I've gotten there, with my biggie camera and my coffee. Probably wont be able to brew a cup in my room but, at least, I will be able to have a cup of goodness at work.

I hit Florida on the 30th, and should be back outside the country by April 7th. Bye bye, blackbird.

Closest I've Been To A Fight I Never Had...

Had a rather interesting evening yesterday. Everyone got together for Keith's b-day bash. Was really good, had everyone all in the same spot for the first time in 12-13 years. Odd seeing how much we all had, or had not, changed.

Anyways, while we were moving on to more refined locale to continue our festive libations, I see a couple of guys start to stare at me from the corner of my eyes, and a few moments later we all hear this loud drunken "HEY!" ...Oh joy. Actually, turns it, it was two soldiers from 1st Cav. They both remembered and recognized me from FOB Prosperity. I was rather impressed. Felt bad for the guys, as the cav already has their marching orders for the next rotation. Looks like the cav is keeping their tradition of minimum time back in the rear.

Moving joys continue.

Finalized my moving arrangements. $95 an hour for the movers, bleh! But, on the flip side, the warehouse storage is 50 a month. Hmmm. Evens out in the end I guess, between moving myself and higher costing self storage vs movers+warehouse storage. Gods know I do not want to move my stone furniture.

Still debating on the bike and jeep. Keith offered to take care of the bike for me; he's taking care of James's right now while he's away on the boat. Might work. Jeep I am not sure of yet.

New Job

Time for to leave again, for parts unknown. Well, known, just not by many people. The new gig is on a schnazzy little rock out in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean. Probably leave Texas NLT the end of March, perhaps much sooner. Gave Austin one last shot, but it has changed too much, it's not the cozy little laid back city I left. Don't know where I'll move to once I come back, but rest assured, it won't be here. I will more than likely be gone longer this time than on my last contract. I am thinking no less than one year, probably no more than two. Will just have to wait and see...

You Were Born Under:

You've got a ton of energy - and need plenty of room to roam.
You tend to follow your whims, and it's hard for you to stick to one thing.
Specific jobs, loves, and friends are always changing and never a part of your life for long.
Very intuitive, you tend to know what people are thinking before they say a word.

Could almost pretend I was back in the real world, today. Toward the end of the day, I was sitting out in the bay, daydreaming the last few idle hours of work by. Watched these two dragonflies (one of my favorite critters) hunt, buzzing in and out of the bay, buzzing right over my head, and doing there dance for probably an hour. Very calm this afternoon, no gun fire, no sirens, no honking, no jabbering of idiots. Just peaceful, quite, serenity. Just needed to add a hammock and take away the call to prayer broadcast, could be just like home...
