6:34 pm - Nana madness
|
Elaina did NOT want to come home from Nana's house today. Could it be because they went to the superstore and she bought her tons of stuff? Nope, I bet it's because Nana lets her do WHATEVER she wants to! Not that I don't, mind you. It's just more fun at Nana's house.
Dan's outside finishing up some project and I've got laundry & dinner going. Dan's going to grill steaks to go with what I've got in here. I wish we could eat outside on the deck but Elaina can't go out. Right after dinner I'm going to scrapbook. I got Elaina's room completely clean after work so she will be busy all night destroying it again.
I entered Elaina's First Valentine's Day page in the monthly contest at the scrapbook store. Everybody go vote for it!
Ps. Jayleah, I had to leave right at 5 to take Erin back to her car because we are FLAKES and left it at Kroger today during lunch. Catch you tomorrow??? :)

10:31 am - strawberry shortcake mania
|
Elaina has finally decided on a theme for her birthday party - Strawberry Shortcake! I am just as excited as she is about it. I loved Strawberry Shortcake when I was little. I don't even mind all of the premade decorations. I really, really don't like the Dora stuff and that's what she had wanted before. I have been obsessed and looking on ebay and everywhere for SS stuff since last night. I now have to have:

So who's buying this for me for my bday? So far it's only $200. ha
I'm going today at lunch to buy all of the new SS dolls they have at WalMart and I'm going to Target this weekend. yay!

10:27 am - fun, fun on the farm
|
I hope it doesn't take 100 years to get the constitutional amendment to a vote in the states. I hope it gets to the state level because I believe Americans will resoundingly vote to define marriage as an institution between one man and one woman.
Anyway, we're home today because Elaina was feeling really bad this morning. She was saying her tummy hurt a lot but now she's just fine. I suspect the big poo she took did the trick. It's too late now to take her to school so we're just playing and cleaning up around here. Our mattress arrives this evening so I've got to get all the dust bunnies out from under the bed and finish putting the laundry away.

11:35 pm - Happy New Year!
|
Dan's watching tv and Elaina has been asleep for about a half hour now. I'm contemplating doing a scrapbook layout or two since I don't have to work tomorrow and I took a 3 hour nap with Elaina today. I did two layouts last night while Dan & his mom & sister played dominos and card games. I just sat at the table with them and did my own thing. Way more fun than actually playing the games. I get bored too fast. We did play a game of trivial pursuit after they got finished playing cards. I kicked butt of course. They left at 2:30am when I told them I had to go to bed because Elaina would get up early whether I wanted to or not. We went over to mom & dad's at noon for black eyed peas and to celebrate my sister's birthday. After lunch the guys all decided to cut down a tree that was leaning toward my dad's shop. We were all scared they'd hurt themselves or knock out the power (like it hasn't happened before!). It went down just as they planned it though so they were all strutting around and grinning. I predicted they'd be high on testosterone for hours and I was right. We got home at 3:30pm and that's when we took our three hour nap. Since then we've just been hanging around playing card games, looking at old pictures and stuff. Dan has to work tomorrow so he'd better hope the game he's watching ends soon. It's about to seriously storm. Stuff is banging around out on the deck so I went out and brought some of it inside and fed the cats. It's 70 degrees out there!
Happy Birthday Nikki!!!

4:18 pm - I can't believe it's been a year already...
|
2002-12-30 01:54:00; Everything is going to be just fine.... **Packing temporarily interrupted by an impromptu visit to ER** We were wrapping up the packing when Elaina took a fall. She hit her head on the table and has a nasty bruise and knot above her right eye. After a quick call to the pediatrician we were out the door and on our way to the ER because her pupils were not the same size. After a brief wait, we saw a very nice pediatrician who examined her and assured us all is well. Needless to say, we were very relieved. I just put her to bed and I'm headed there myself. I'm starting to think I might actually make it. I am close to finished with packing and have only to get together what we will need for the next week until we are unpacked. I never thought it possible, and I'll still believe it when I see it.
It's late but let me get out the calculator.... ONLY 34 HOURS TILL ARRIVAL I'm not doing the rest of the math, you figure it out.
2002-12-30 23:06:00; 13 hours In about 13 hours I will pick up my Dad and his cohorts at the airport. On one hand, I can't wait to see them. On the other, their arrival marks the end of another chapter in my life. I hate that cliche but there's no better way to explain it. I have very little packing left to do, just need to tie up some loose ends and straighten the place up. Since I am so close to having everything done I decided to accept Lisa's dinner invitation. I'm glad I did. We had a nice dinner with she and Jon. Elaina finally got to see all of Lisa's cats and she loved them. Too bad the feeling was not mutual. haha We just got in and Elaina is sound asleep so I'm going to put some music on and get a nice fire going then finish up with the work around here. I'm going to miss our house. I love this house, it's our first home, it's where we brought Elaina home to after she was born... Oh no, I'm not doing this again. At least we will still own it. Somehow that makes me feel better. I'm such a sap.
Loveya, mean it, bye

2:00 pm - Chickies!
|
Dan & Elaina are taking a nap. My parents stopped by earlier this afternoon to see Elaina's chickens. - OH YEAH! I didn't mention the chickens in my Christmas update. Dan built a chicken coop and bought Elaina four hens and a rooster on the 23rd. She loves them! There's an old chicken coop on our property and she asked Dan several weeks ago what it was. Once he told her, she's been obsessed with having some chickens of her own. So, he built her a chicken coop! She goes out with him every morning to feed them. They are Rhode Island Reds, which my mom told me this afternoon is my grandpa's favorite kind of chicken. The hens won't lay eggs for a few weeks more. Elaina can't wait to go out and collect the eggs. She was happy to show her chickens to Gigi & Poppa today. Melissa and Kelli are coming over this afternoon to play and scrapbook. I can't wait to see all the cool scrapbook stuff Melissa got for Christmas! Elaina is excited about Kelli playing with her kitchen. The burners on the stove on it sizzle and make boiling sounds when pans are set on them. It also has a coffee maker and for someone who hates real coffee, I love pretend coffee that Elaina makes for me. I bet I had two pots of it yesterday!

We had a wonderful Christmas. On Christmas eve we had dinner at hubby's Dad & step-mom's and exchanged gifts with them. They got Elaina the cutest bicycle and she loves it! It's purplest-pinkest thing you've ever seen. They also got her those caroling snowmen from Hallmark, a pink cellphone with jeweled case and some clothes. After dinner with them, the big red bus met us in town at 8pm and we boarded along with Dan's mother & sister. My dad drove the 15 passenger bus we rented to go light looking. We sang carols, ate fudge and ooohed and ahhed to a chorus of "lights on the right!" and "lights on the left!" until midnight when they dropped us back off at our car and we headed home. I finished wrapping gifts and went to bed after 1am. Did I mention that Christmas Eve was our 8th wedding anniversary? I spent the whole day cleaning and organizing Elaina's room and Dan worked outside in the the yard. :) We are SO old. Dan's mom & sis showed up at 8am Christmas morning, just after we woke up. We opened gifts and then had breakfast. Elaina got Veggie Tales & Finding Nemo dvd's from Dan's mom and I got a nice new robe and some awesome lotion and bath scrub made of sugar. Dan got me a new reference and study bible and leather carrying case. I also got a toolbox for my scrapbook supplies. I got him a bible and carrying case too so we laughed about that. Dan also got me some makeup and some new flannel pj's. I got him clothes and stuff and Elaina got him a wallet. He also got the new Mercy Me cd from his mom & sister. We got Elaina some fisher price food sets for her new kitchen, a playdoh set, a Noah's Ark Little People set with extra animals, an etch a sketch, a My First Leap pad and a ton of books. She also got some too cute pj's. We were a bit late for dinner with my family but we made it there fine and just as everyone else started eating. We all opened gifts there too and Elaina got a new big kitchen, some books, clothes, a lamp, a Dora & friends. I got money :), a scrapbook store gift certificate, a nice bracelet and a set of fruity lip juices. We hung around there all afternoon and then headed home where I spent an hour rearranging and organizing my craft stuff. All in all, a very good Christmas.

12:51 am - Merry Christmas!
|
I just finished putting Elaina's stocking under the tree with the rest of her gifts. I hope she likes everything!
We got home just after midnight, we've been on the mother of all light looking excursions. We rented a 15 passenger bus. It was packed! We sang Christmas carols and drove all over creation. Dan's mom & sister went along and they seemed to enjoy it. My dad's friend's in-laws are in from Texas and they went as well. I'm not sure they knew what to think of the "Griswold" mobile.
We had dinner at Dan's dad & Wanda's. Jessica (Dan's sister) went with us. Larry & Wanda got Elaina a bicycle for Christmas. It is too cute and she loves it. They also got her a pink cellphone and carrying case. She flipped open the phone, pushed the buttons and said "Hello, Santa. Are you still at the North Pole"? Too, too, too, too cute!
Gayla & Jess will be here at 8 in the morning to open gifts with us. We are going to my parents house in the afternoon to have dinner and exchange gifts. I love my Christmas scheduling this year. We saw Larry & Wanday tonight and Gayla & Jess will be here in the morning. Then all we have to do is go over to my parents house and relax! No hustle and bustle and I love it.
JESUS - The name above every name... The peace for every soul... The gift sent for every heart.
May the gift of Jesus be yours this Christmas and always.

Elaina loved the Christmas parade. She looked so cute riding on the float. A picture of her float was on the front page of the paper but it was taken from the side opposite where she sat so you couldn't see her little self behind all the big girls. We got off the float about half-way and watched the rest of the parade with my parents & their friends. Nikki & Mark kept Carter in the truck because it was so cold. I took pictures of him leaning on the dash and pressing his face against the windshield. After the parade we had chili at my parents' house and then went out looking at Christmas lights. Elaina fell asleep eating a huge candy cane. She was absolutely covered in sticky. Saturday morning we met Melissa & Kelli at Breakfast With Santa. Elaina wouldn't get her picture made with Santa when it was her turn so she had it made with the snowman on the stage. I picked the picture up at lunch today and it's so cute. Wanda (my mother-in-law) and I went to Erin & Brian's wedding Saturday evening. It was the most beautiful wedding I have ever been to. The chapel was decorated only with fresh red roses, greenery and candlelight. The groomsmen & groom sang a capella as the bridesmaids entered then the groomsmen sang another song as Erin walked down the aisle. Erin look absolutely gorgeous. After the wedding we picked up Dan & his dad and went out for a late dinner. Elaina stayed the night with my parents. Sunday morning Dan and I went to church with my parents. Elaina was so well behaved during the service. She clapped along during the hymns and then went to Children's Church with Corey. I was supposed to clean the house yesterday afternoon but I never actually got around to it. I did clean up the kitchen but the rest of the place is a wreck. When I dropped Elaina off at school this morning I told her that we are going to Melissa & Kelli's tonight and she said "Kelli not sick aNYmore". Her pronunciation of words is just too cute. Dan wouldn't let her do something (I can't remember what now) this weekend and she told me "Mommy, he bossed me". I told her he is going to be bossy because he's her daddy and she yelled "I don't wanna be bossed"! Me either little chica.

Jessica & Gayla (Dan's sister & mom) invited us over for dinner last night so I didn't get anything done at home. We watched The Simple Life after dinner and let me say that I don't know just what those girls think they are going to do in Altus, Arkansas at 1:00am! We laughed hysterically when Paris was getting all dolled up and modeling for the BBQ that they were so excited about. I've been to Altus more times to count in my life and while they do make nice wine there and the wine festival is fun, there's not much to do there in general. And yes, those dorks standing around at the "BBQ" are Arkansas high school boys personified. "How do ya lack it herrre in the coontry"? hahahahahahahaha
Tonight and tomorrow night are Christmas parade nights. Tomorrow night we're going to go on a massive Christmaslightlooking excursion after the parade. I am so excited that I'm here for all of this! I've got to call the auto rental agency today. We're renting a 16 passenger van for Christmas Eve so that we can all ride together and look at lights. It's going to be awesome! Christmas eve is also our 8th wedding anniversary. Yesterday, Erin was looking up wedding vows online to try and pick something suitable for their wedding. We were reading them while waiting at the bank drive-thru and I put on the CD of my & Dan's wedding song. I got all teary-eyed just listening to it. I'm such a sap. ( As Dreams Go By )

I finally got the office and my office decorated for Christmas. Our tree and decorations have been up at home since the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Elaina has opened most of the little decorative gifts that are on the tree. She keeps looking for candy in them! I guess there will be no gifts under our tree until Christmas Eve. I don't want to have to re-wrap everything. She snagged a bow off of a gift at Dan's Dad & Wanda's house. I caught her before she could tear into the wrapping paper. She is just so excited. Everytime a car pulls up at our house she says "Santa is here!" We're going to make one of those paper chain things out of red & green construction paper and decorate it with glitter. I made those when I was little and you tear off one link per day until Christmas. I think she will like having the "job" of tearing those off every day. I have tons of pictures to add to Elaina's website but I haven't had the time lately to scan them. I'm hoping to get to that sometime next week. Erin's wedding is Saturday so I know I won't have time this weekend. Elaina is going to spend the night with my parents. I'm not sure if Dan is going to the wedding with me or not, I doubt it. I have to try to find something to wear between now and then. It's also imperative that I at least make out a Christmas shopping list. I've never started this late before. I'm going to get some breakfast. Have a great day!

12:10 am - Happy Day-After-Thanksgiving
|
We had an absolutey great Thanksgiving day. We stayed up way too late last night decorating the house and the Christmas tree. We slept in till 8am this morning then watched the parade while I cooked. We had a late breakfast around 10:30 and left for Nikki's at 1:00. It was absolutely pouring and lots of places around us got some large hail. Thank goodness we didn't, I don't need my car all dented up like a golf ball. Elaina & I went with my parents out to my grandparents' house. We haven't been out there in at least six months so it was good to see them and for them to see Elaina. When we got home we napped then watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas. We just finished it a half our ago and Elaina and Dan are now sleeping. Dan has to work tomorrow. Elaina and I are going to pick up around the house tomorrow then go over to my parents to help my dad finish putting up lights. We're not doing any shopping tomorrow but Nikki and her in-laws are getting up early to go out so I've asked her to pick up a DVD player for Elaina's room and a My First Leap Pad as well. That means I've officially started my Christmas shopping. Everyone else I know is about finished. We drew names today at Nikki's and I suspect that Angie or Nick has my name since Whitley asked me what I want for Christmas. ( What I'm Thankful For )

I didn't even read blurty yesterday. I must have been terribly busy but I don't remember now.
We went to Melissa's house last night to scrapbook. I got two layouts done but the second was basically a freebie because it was so easy. We stopped by my parents' house on our way home and my mom is in the middle of her annual Christmas decorating frenzy. She has two trees up with two more to go. They're not decorated yet though. I tried to count all the boxes of stuff and there were just too many. I bet she has 100 boxes of Christmas decorations.
My dad gave me Frosty the Snowman. It was his mom's (my mamaw). I remember winding it up and listening to it play Frosty the Snowman when I couldn't have been older than 4 or 5. Mamaw died when I was in the sixth grade. I can't express to you how happy it makes me to have this Frosty. He is Christmas to me.
Elaina made off with a ceramic Santa that my mom made in 1982. She was so pitiful asking for it that my mom could not resist her. She wanted to spend the night last night but she wanted me to stay too and we have work and school today. We don't tomorrow though! Five days off in a row, whatever will I do? I've a pretty good idea actually.
Tomorrow we're going over to help Dad string the Christmas lights on the house. That always was my job until I moved and he had to recruit my uncle to help since then. I can't wait to help. It's always fun to plan what we are going to do and how we'll string everything. He's threatening to put the big Grinch up next door at my uncle's place. Elaina would be happy because she does not like the Grinch a bit. She's ready to see the big snowman though. We're going to smoke the turkey tomorrow too. I've got to make out my grocery list for Thanksgiving.
My to-do list-(If you don't hear from me for 5 days, this is why) Tuesday - work - make out grocery list - get squash casserole recipe online - get chocolate pie recipe from my mom - 6 loads of laundry - sweep and clean kitchen floor (still covered in remnants of Elaina's powdered sugar adventure)
Wednesday - Pack our stuff for the day - Bundle Elaina up - String Christmas lights with Poppa - Fight crowds at grocery store - Assemble and bake green bean casserole and squash casserole - Bake chocolate pie - Get clothes ready for Thanksgiving day
Thursday - Get myself ready - Get Elaina ready - Get Dan ready - Load car - Get to Nikki's early enough to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on their huge TV. - Have Dinner (It's at lunch time but we call it dinner) - Visit my grandparents - Visit Dan's mom & sister - Visit Dan's Dad & Wanda - Visit Dan's grandparents - crash
Friday - Sleep late - Clean house - String Christmas lights outside - Put up Christmas tree - Cook dinner for Dan's mom & sister - Watch movies
Saturday - 8am Meet Sarah for breakfast and Christmas shopping - (I have something planned that I can't remember!)
Sunday - Church with my parents - Take Elaina to matinee showing of The Cat in the Hat - Watch Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Monday - Die

9:09 am - Rain rain, go away
|
Melissa & Kelli couldn't come over last night because it was just raining too hard. I live way out in the country so I don't blame them for not wanting to drive all that way in the pouring rain. Elaina was sad but we played and then she insisted on having the radio on so she could dance. Is it rong that my 31 month-old daughter loves "I Love This Bar"? She hums along when he does and everything. When he says the girls next door dress up like movie stars Elaina tells me she wants to be a movie star. I finished another layout last night. It's a "Grandparents" page with pictures of Elaina with each of her grandparents. These pictures are very special though because they are the first pictures taken of them holding her. I like how it turned out. Those two page layouts are killer though, they take me forever. I'm dying to do her cowgirl page but I'm trying to wait until Melissa & Kelli come over on Wednesday night.

I got off work early on Friday so Elaina & I met Melissa & Kelli at Wendy's for frosties. Elaina has not been to Wendy's before and when I mentioned it, she wanted to know if she and Kelli could play with Wendy's toys. We decided when we got home that we'd go out for dinner since I needed to stop at my office. We went to dinner and saw Dan's cousin Richard and his girlfriend there with their 2 month old daughter Taylor. I hadn't seen Taylor before and she is a cutie. Elaina loves babies so she checked Taylor over then asked me "Can we have Taylor"? So cute! Even when I was buckling her in her car seat she was still telling me "Go back and get Taylor". Too, too cute. We stopped at my office after dinner and Elaina colored while she waited. When I got into work this morning I found a note stuck to my desk that said "We (heart) you!" Dan had the flu this weekend and he's at home today too. I called him earlier and after a few minutes, he abruptly tried to get off the phone. His soap opera was back on! He's still going to school tonight so Melissa & Kelli are coming over to scrapbook. I got my Halloween layout finished late Friday night and I'm so happy with it. It's not goig to be long before I start subjecting you all to photos of my scrapbook pages! We watched both episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent last night. The first episode was new and I hadn't seen the second episode before so I got two hours of Vincent D'onofrio. I'm obsessed.

Elaina loved the Veteran's Day parade. We were behind the high school band and in front of the university band so she had plenty of music to twirl her baton and flag to.

Melissa and I spent way too much time in the scrapbook store yesterday. I got so much cute stuff so I can finally finish Elaina's birthday pages, cowgirl page and Halloween page. She's coming over here at lunch and I'm going to clear off my desk so we can scrap here. We're addicted! Ok, I'm not as addicted as her yet but I'm working on it.
I've got so much actual work to do both at work and at home. I'm hoping to have it all finished by Sunday. I've got to print and mail invitations today for my mom's party or I'm in big trouble.

1:26 pm - I can't believe Thanksgiving is only 3 weeks away.
|
We had a play-date Saturday morning at Nikki's. Carter had so much fun chasing Elaina & Kelli around the house. He was so tired by the time we left! Then Elaina & I spent the night at my parents' house Saturday after watching Finding Nemo with everybody at Angie's house. Elaina didn't watch a lot of the movie so I didn't have to worry about her being scared by the sharks. She says sharks are mean. We spent most of yesterday napping. We stayed up way too late on Friday and Saturday night so Elaina was still tired. She fell asleep sitting on my lap last night. I just held her and watched Law & Order Criminal Intent and then put her to bed. It's not often anymore that she will crawl up on my lap and fall asleep. I'm off work tomorrow for Veteran's Day. Melissa & I are going to the scrapbook store in the morning and Elaina is going to twirl in the parade tomorrow afternoon. Today is such a nice, drizzyly and cool day. My favorite weather.
