A rendezvous with the old monkey friends [27 Jan 2004|12:54pm]
[ mood | busy ]
[ music | Blaze of Glory -- Bon Jovi ]

On Sunday me,Jaggu,Chacha, Bhaloo and Langoor (Don't worry, these aint real animals .. just the nicknames of my wingmates) to the local zoo in Kanpur. I went to a zoo after some 10 years or so. The journey to the Zoo was utter fun .. it was a roller-coaster ride on bumpy roads of kanpur ( or should I say a chaotic array of crests and troughs ), the Vikram (Official transport vehicle of IITK students) splashed mud and water here and there cruising all along the terrain. After around 30 minutes of this action-packed drive we were there at the zoo. Jaggu went to buy the tickets, while we stayed back looking around if there was something else to-be-seen apart from the animals . Then the discussion with the ticket counter guy (for student concession). He wasnt willing to give concession on an International Student's Card, he said Kanpur should be written somewhere on the card.So finally I had to buy a full ticket. We entered then. The first thing that I saw was a bunch of pelicans and pink flaminogs ... wow they were so sweet .. they looked as if they were made up of candyfloss. Then we headed further watching lots and lots of different monkeys. We also saw all the monkeys who were troubling us in IITK campus and were transferred to the zoo now. I kept clicking the snaps here and there. The most beautiful thing was the Aquarium. The fishes were all so lovely and colorful. Most of the snaps I took were of them. Our bhaloo was disappointed as his zoo-mates dint greet him as warm as he thought. It was a sunday afty so most of the animals were sleeping.. lazy fells .The deers too disappointed, they were soo afraid I cudnt take a single snap of theirs. The Rhino, Lion, Panther, Jackals, Hippo wow I saw all of them after ages. And all the lovely birds, so colorful and full of life. I loved them all.I will be uploading the snaps on my homepage soon, so watch out for the fun. The journey back was fun and so were the Burgers at Ice-Spice.
Sometiems I think that their life is so cool.. no tensions of studies, no big dreams of buying a Maybach and most of all no pain of being devoid of a beloved computer.

January 26:Plethora of events [27 Jan 2004|01:34pm]
[ mood | apathetic ]
[ music | Kya se kya ho gaye -- Guide ]

This January 26th apart from the republic day was celebrated as Basant Panchami. As usual I woke up at my holidays-wake-up time 12 o clock and went to the mess for a good morning lunch. The sun was shining bright as if proud of its energy and so was the high fluttering tirangaa ( The Tricolor ) in the central quad. I went to the conference room where the Saraswati puja was going on. On Basant Panchami, Saraswati (Indian Goddess of learning) is worshiped and all the students are always enthusiastic about this. Atleast I am ever since I am aware of the fact. Well it really has helped me a lot in my academic career I believe. Because sometimes even I wonder how I was able to do well in some exams just after a night of study . Well after that puja I went and had the pastries being distributed on the occasion of the Republic Day. The lunch was fabulous too.
In the night it was Groov-in. The inter-hostel dance competition which was often considered to be a prelude to Galaxy. No description for this event (Galaxy)... because its a passion which you can feel only if you have been a a part of it.Ask anyone who had been a part of Galaxy at IIT Kanpur. Undoubtedly, its the greatest experience of our lives.Well just carried away by the emotions hehehe. Anyway back to Groov-in. In Groov-in the three teams were there as usual - Hall2,Hall3, Girls Hostel(GH) and the extempore show of THE HALL ONE. The names of the teams were interesting : Linearly Independent, Solid State and 7788 ( the local dial number of the GH ). I always like being to cultural events. Well this event, apart from the fabulous dance performances had an awesome cheering fromt he crowd for their respective halls, hooting and the most innovative taunts or comments you can ever imagine. Judging has always been a matter of question in Groov-in. After the results are out, none except the winners understands why the won (I am sure even they wont be knowing it fully).
