"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
-2 Timothy 4:7
As I read this verse this morning doing my own personal devotion,
God really spoke to me about it. When I die and I face Jesus face-to-
face, will I be able to say what Paul does in this verse? Will you be
able to say that either? It's a hard question that went straight to my
heart.
God convicts me all the time with things I need to change. He
convicts me through His Word, through people, through prayer, and
sometimes just experience. God speaks in many different ways,
the problem is I don't respond to Him enough. He shows me how to
change to be closer to Him, but I (for no specific reason) don't listen.
In the last few months, God has shown me lots of stuff in my life
that I have never thought of before. One thing that He has taught
me that sticks out in my mind is: "The daily walk you have with me
is not a game, it's a fight." That right there really touched my life.
Do you go through life playin' it as if it were a game? Or are you
living for God in the fight?
Will you be able to say one day that you have finished the race
that God has set in front of you? Are you goin' to be able to say, you
kept the faith through every circumstance you could? I fail in this a
lot. I don't stay faithful with God. I get carried away with things of
the world and get my focus off the One who saved my soul. I then
have to ask for forgiveness and remember 2 Timothy 4:5. We have to
be watchful in all things; no matter what they are.
So I ask you to examine your life this week. Ask yourself this
question, "Have I been runnin' the race God has set in front of me
with all my strength and might, or have I been settling for 2nd
place?" Pray about it. Let God open your eyes to His will. Let Him
show you the race He wants you to run.
