-Watch Where You Are Going!!!-
“Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I won’t forget your law. The wicked has set a snare for me, but I haven’t strayed away from your precepts.”
- Psalm 119:109-110
“Watch out,” my mom yelled as I drove down the dirt road. I swerved to the right as quick as I could. “Dang, that was close,” I said after we almost hit the huge ditch. I had been changing the radio station instead of keeping my eyes on the road. If I would have hit the ditch, it could have life-threatening. I’m just glad my mom was there to warn me to avoid it.
The two verses in Psalm 119 relates to this story in a similar way. Just like I was driving the car, I was taking my hands into my own life. Even though I didn’t feel like I was when I started the ignition, I still was. I wasn’t thinking responsibly and I also wasn’t looking for anything to avoid. I was too busy tuning into the radio instead of paying attention to where I was headed.
God wants the best life for us. He wants to bless us in every part of our lives. The problem is, we usually stop God from doing what He wants to. We don’t pay attention to the road of life. Instead, we have our mind focusing on the world. We get so caught up in the “radio”, that we do not see the holes and bumps on the road ahead.
Sometimes we aren’t prepared and we do hit a ditch along the way. We had the chance to dodge it, but instead we were careless and not looking ahead. The devil throws a lot of hazards on the roads we travel on throughout all our life, but the GREAT news is: We don’t have to hit them.
We can listen to and obey mom. Just like mom did, God warns us about the rough roads in our life. If we don’t learn how to drive the vehicle, study the driver’s manual, and listen to mom ; then how are we suppose to ever get anywhere to our destination. We have to keep our eyes on the road or the consequences of hitting the ditch can be very FATAL.
Satan tries to throw any trap that he can into our lives to slow us down from the place God wants us to be. The only reason he throws the hazards in our life is so he can get us to wreck (1 Peter 5:8). He wants us to be unaware of the dangers on the road. He wants us to tune into the stereo instead of watching where we are going. The devil doesn’t care one bit, whose vehicle wrecks, as long as he gets the job done.
God gives us our own manual to abide by, the Bible. If we don’t read it, study it, or meditate on it we have a good chance of not missing one of those bumps. It’s not just bumps, holes, and ditches, but Satan also puts hills/mountains on some of our roads. We get on a smooth road for a little while, then he shoves a hill in there. They can be hard to get over sometimes, but remember that God is right there with you guiding you through every second of your trip. If you listen, He will warn you to avoid the evil ahead.
If you read the map, then it will help you travel A LOT easier then it would be trying to use cruise control. Without the map, we can get lost and stray from the road we should be on. If you trust “mom”, read the “driver’s Manual”, and follow the directions on the “map”, then you won’t go wrong because the kind of support I’m talking about is eternal. So the question is: Are you going to choose the narrow road or the wide road (Matthew 7:13-14)? WATCH WHERE YOU ARE GOING!!!
Questions:
<1> Have you been listening to “mom” lately?
<2> What “bumps” in the road are slowing you down?
<3> Have you been choosing “the radio” or “the map”? Explain.
<4> Look around you. There are “wrecks” that go on every day. See if you can
help the injured ones or the ones that are hitting some hard bumps right
now. Is there anyone you know that needs “vehicle help”? If yes, then who?
