Ashley Harkleroad's Breakthrough Week Ashley Harkleroad dominated Meghann Shaughnessy (6-2), (6-2) in the round of 16 at this week's Family Circle Cup WTA event. She then pulled off an even more decisive performance in her defeat of Daniela Hantuchova (6-2), (6-1) in today's quarterfinals.
Harkleroad, who played a memorable match against Maria Sharapova in the 2002 Pittsburgh Women's Challenger, has risen to a career high 100 in the world. Shaughnessy is ranked 19th in the world and Hantuchova 9th.
This is clearly the biggest week in Harkleroad's tennis career. Her fist breakthrough came in the 2000 Pittsburgh Women's Challenger. As a 15 year old, she won the qualifying tournament and made it into the first round of the main draw.
USTA members will find Ashley on the cover of the latest issue of USTA Magazine and a feature article about her inside.
