Spent the afternoon with Mom & Bill. It was....uhh....fun. Mom wanted a new TV set for the bedroom cuz the old one was a piece o' junque. She finally found one at the 5th place we stopped at. Since the item would not fit in the car's trunk, we had to go get my truck & take it back to their place that way. Being out in traffic...then being subjected to the "typical" crowd at large "box" retail establishments for almost 2 hours was not easy for me. There are some types of humans I seem to be having less & less tolerance for as my time on this planet grows. It was for a good cause, I suppose....so I can feel good about that at least.
The "shutdown" at work hasn't been much of a vacation for me either. Aside from 1 person, all of the parent company's employees have taken the holidays off, and/or won't be back until January 2nd. That leaves us contracted types to give up prime time with OUR family & friends so THEY can enjoy their time away from it all instead. If the company I work for gave out holiday bonuses for holding down the fort while the "important" client employees were enjoying their relaxing time away, I wouldn't mind so much. We didn't even get a crummy ink pen this year. Absolutely nothing in the world makes me feel more unappreciated than moments like this. Yes...Christmas Day & New Year's Day are time & 1/2, but......so what??
In some ways, not having a job at all would be worse. In that (and ONLY that) case, I have nothing to gripe about. I just dislike feeling like "spare parts" and/or "temporary fill-ins" so the Important People can have all of the holidays off...and probably get paid to take the day off too.
I hope I can get this out of my system before the new year starts. I'd hate to drag it with me into 2008 if I don't have to.
Hey ____________management.... How about a little APPRECIATION over here!!!
*SIGH*
Next post will be better...I promise.
