Mom wanted to get me a new bed for my new place. We decided to go over to the IKEA store in Tempe. It sounded like a good idea at the time. I had never been to the place, although I had driven past it numerous times. The parking lot was full on this hot September day (supposed to be around 108 or so this afternoon). We managed to get a spot fairly close to the door, which was nice - although the other person who wanted my spot likely had other thoughts.
There were 3 flagpoles in front. The American flag in the middle - The Arizona flag on one side & The Swedish flag on the other. It was a nice combination.
On my mother's side of the family tree, I am 100% Swedish ancestry. I viewed this as something of a Cultural experience.
The interior of the store was full of people jabberring away in Spanish. While not surprised, this still didn't seem natural somehow.... The place was crowded, but we decided to brave the storm of humanity anyway & check out the beds upstairs. Finding one's way around this place made me feel like a mouse in a giant maze. I was thinking we should have left a trail of crumbs to find our way back out again.... We wound around the various areas and eventually found the Bedroom Furniture. I saw a couple that looked good, and decided on the darker framed one. Having that done & out of the way, Mom wanted to go over to the restaurant in the store & get something Swedish for lunch. The lines there were nightmare-ish in structure and we decided to try elsewhere. We went back downstairs to where all the stuff is. The warehouse is a "Get it Yourself" kind of place...although part of it isn't...which we found out after being in the "molasses in wintertime" check out line for almost 20 minutes. Part of what we got was "Pick it up AFTER you pay for it" and the rest was "Get it Yourself BEFORE you pay for it". Mom was not dealing with this very well & her impatient temper was in full swing. I wanted to go hide under a rock & pretend I wasn't there... I got a cart & went into the warehouse & picked up what I needed from there. Then we went BACK into the checkout line to try again. Approx 20 more minutes later...we get everything paid for & go off to the area where we pick up the rest of the stuff. There is a bit of a wait, so we go outside & cram what we have into the back of my truck. It barely fit. 108 degrees - Sun shining - Pushing/Shoving crouds - Crankypants Mom - Frustrated Owl - Carts with unruly wheels....did not add up to a fun day where a good time was had by all.
We soon got the rest of the stuff and sent up a silent "Thanks" to the Maker of All Things after we found out that it all fit in the truck!!!
Stopped off at Wendy's afterwards. Mom's legs were sore from arthritis & walking so much in this &%$$# weather. I was just worn out from dealing with the whole situation. We were a couple of grumpy, grouchy irritated people.
Since I won't have room for this stuff until later in the month, it's all gonna be put in the parent's dining room until then...at least that's where it's going after I unload the truck.
The Cubs beat Houston 6 - 5 today. Mom's happy about that, anyway......
Until next time -
Owl.

Holy Snitch! You know it all! We bet you even got the number code right to the Ministry of Magic! In fact, you are probably J.K. Rowling. C'mon... give us a clue when the next book is due?
