: Geek Singles Night... or something like it
I had been looking forward to last night for quite some time, even after I had my cards read last week and even after the reader said I wasn't finding anyone because I set my standards too high. In the end, I don't think they really could have gotten much lower. The event didn't even happen.
It was still advertised on their web site, but there was no one there. The shop was closed. There were no warnings, no notes, no nothing. Just the two of us (who apparently were the only ones who even read the web site...) sitting in an empty parking lot. We didn't even meet any singles who showed up hoping to meet singles!
But the day wasn't a total loss.
My friend and I spent the entire afternoon together at Town East Mall. I was dressed as Seto Kaiba, and that certainly got some attention. I was amazed at how many people recognized us, how many people knew about anime conventions, and how many fellow geeks we met! Secretly, they wish they would have thought of going to the mall in a costume. I know they do.
Various other mall highlights include:
- My friend trying to buy a single cookie with a $50 bill. So much for 'screw the rules, I have money.' I had to put it on my credit card.
- There's a Ninja Turtles fighting game coming out this fall from the makers of Super Smash Bros.
- There actually is a store that sells a/c adapters for the original NES. Oh. My. God. My friend bought a much sought after N64 game there.
- The store that has a little bit of everything. Now that was awesome.
- The bunnies confiscated my friend's hand!!
After we finally left the non-existent singles mixer, we spent the late evening swimming in her pool. I got to see the new deck for the first time. Really, they have the most awesome deck outside that they built themselves - all carpeted, bamboo overhead, all built up. My friend even painted the outside of the pool to look like a mural. It really was amazing!
The rest of the time was spent playing games, goofing off and chasing a random frog as it peed.
... I wonder if the frog was single.
