: L: Change the World
I have just returned home from seeing the third and final Death Note movie.
I walked into the theater with the knowledge that this movie was a poor sequel compared to the first two. This one was made solely to capitalize on the popularity of L. It had some good scenes, but all in all, this was meant to be a guilty pleasure movie. It's kind of like what would happen if Johnny Depp was in a movie and all he did was sit and watch paint dry. Women everywhere would still go to see it, just to watch him stare at a wall. The same is true for L.
And I left the theater remembering that for a guilty pleasure movie, I'd forgotten how many funny and endearing scenes they managed to create. I'd forgotten how touching the music was, emotionally, as L finally showed his humanity. I'd forgotten how hilarious it was when L straightened up his posture for the first time, or when the FBI agent had to serve as a decoy... twice. And if you continue to forget Near, the ending was actually pretty good.
I was going to boo, but in the end, I couldn't. I just had to accept it, and watch L walk slowly over the horizon as he walked into death. It was bittersweet. I was even teary-eyed.
After the movie, and after most people left the theater, there was a special message from L, and a Behind the Scenes special featurette! There were a lot of interviews with L, shots pre and post effects, and even a glimpse at the stunt L! Of course, that was enough to leave me wondering what colorize effect they used for that ending sequence I liked so much... I think I'm going to have to use it. It made daytime look like sunset.
I think the only downside is that my Light Yagami, so to speak, didn't come. I even bought him a cookie. But being L, and being alone, I ate it.
Fortunately, there were plenty of familiar faces to keep me company - aka, everyone who came for Death Note II! There was even another L. And we all pretty much sat in the same seats too. Probability of that happening? Oh, less than five percent, I'd say.
Probability of me buying the DVD when it comes out? 97.3% to be exact.
Current COSTUME: L
