to the east, blackwards [06 Apr 2005|10:58pm]

1,200 miles into the trip and i’m kicking myself that I didn’t bring any x-clan. good thing, i brought a few
other friends to keep me company.

if you’ve never driven the 10 east from phoenix, here’s the cliff’s notes:

on your left...there’s a rock.
on your right...there’s a bush. (worksafe or not? go 'head and find out.)

sometimes it’s all rocks. sometimes it’s all bushes. and that’s it. for about a thousand miles. not counting el paso. but who counts el paso?

day one of production – day three of the trip – had us in austin, texas with okayplayer k_orr.

he’s a true head. a hip hop head. a sneaker head. a t-shirt head. a head of just about anything that’s remotely cool.

what’s a “head”?

one definition of a “head” is someone who is passionate about something and chooses to invest a great deal of their time, energy and resources in pursuit of it. there are a lot of these people on okayplayer.com. k_orr is one of them.

don't take my word for it. let his own eloquence be his testimony.

lastly, if today offers any lesson for aspiring documentarians – 'specially those of y’all shooting on shoestring budgets – it’s that ambient light can be your friend, but ambient sound is always your enemy.

so, roll up those dimes (not those ones, the round, silver things) and buy some proper sound equipment.
