mounting up to make a movie [05 Apr 2005|01:12am]
[ mood | okay ]
[ music | the roots - organix ]

somewhere in these united states of america, someone is hopelessly bored. and they're killing time on the internet.

they may find something that makes them laugh out loud. they may find something that makes them cry. they may find a picture of vida guerra's posterior that they haven't seen yet. or maybe they'll find something to make a movie about.

okay...maybe the last one is a bit of a long shot.

but that's what me and my peoples are about to do.

if we were to start at the very beginning, we'd tell you about this band from philly who makes james brown look like he never created a bead of sweat. they're called the roots. if you don't know, you should. and if you don't care, then you don't count. anyway, they started a web site back in 1999 to connect all the fans they had gathered after nearly a decade of touring 300-odd days a year.

it started innocently enough as a way for the roots' fans to get to know one another despite whatever physical distance separated them. but it quickly evolved into something else. something that...well i could tell you about it right now or i could let you follow me and my team on a journey into the heart of the internet.

starting tomorrow, we're bound for texas, the first official stop on our whirlwind production tour of the united states. we'll cover 12 cities in 60 days to record the stories of a variety of people who have come to be known as okayplayers. we'll compile these video anecdotes to tell the story of this online community and to try to figure out just what that phrase really means.

it's a balls out roadtrip to make a movie about how people use the internet and how their "real" lives are impacted by all the time they kill while staring at a computer screen.

you can join us if you like. and you don't even have to take your eyes off the monitor.

watch out for deer, though. those bastards will sneak up on you.
