iPad 3 Sold Out 3 Million in First Week The iPad 2 sold 1 million in its first weekend, iPad 3 sold 3 million in its first weekend, so this is quite a jump. Apple's third-generation iPad, colloquially referred to as the iPad 3, is already setting Apple sales records after its first weekend on the market. Apple announced on Monday afternoon that it has already sold 3 million devices since the iPad's launch on March 16. The iPad 3 includes a number of upgrades over the iPad 2, including a sharp "retina" display, an autofocus 5MP iSight camera, and 4G LTE networking options. The iPad 3 also has beefed up graphics capabilities and battery capacity, largely to power its 4x resolution increase. Those features clearly caught the attention of both previous iPad users as well as new iPad users; one survey we saw suggested that half of those waiting in line to buy one last Friday were first-time iPad users. For comparison, the original iPad sold about 3 million units in its first full quarter of availability. And though the iPhone still outsells the iPad by a significant margin, the iPhone 4S sold 4 million units during its launch weekend. AT&T also claimed that the new iPad set a new single day device activation record for the company. This record was most recently set by the iPhone 4S last October. The launch of the iPad 3 is Apple's most aggressive so far. Already available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK, and the US Virgin Islands, it will be available in 24 more countries starting this Friday, March 23. Those countries include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden. I am just curious how they will handle the 4G compatibility for the EU countries with the coming launch. The US specified frequencies are different then the 4G frequencies over here. Without adaptation it will just not work. But nothing is mentioned on Apples local website for now. Curious how that will work out. If Apple is still making a profit off of them, why lower the price? The moment the iPad 2 came out, all iPad 1s sold were classified as "refurbished" (even new ones)... at this point, I wonder if they're still making them, or if they're simply slowly letting out their left over stock. I'd love to see a chart showing the total number of sales by day... I wonder if sales took a nose dive right after Apple sent out the event announcement, but a lot of people don't follow tech news, so you never know... Apple attempts to position itself as a premium product, so even their significantly outdated gear needs to be priced in such a way that helps to maintain that perception. $100 billion cash dividend issue stockholders or not? Summary: Apple will issue cash dividend to stockholders. Company schedules a conference call for to discuss its cash balance this morning. Company schedules a conference call to discuss its cash balance this morning, the Company announced this afternoon. How about a list of all the non greedy corporations for us, I would like to know which companies I should support. What a stupid statement you make. As a stockholder I want a greedy company which can take care of my investment. I choose to give to charity, but I do not want any company giving my money to charity. Greed is what makes capitalism work. A sign shows the company may be getting ready to give some money back to its stockholders. In a note to investors last month posted by Fortune, UBS said that Apple's management has been "soliciting opinions of large shareholders" about paying a dividend, something that Apple is frequently asked about. The company, which hasn't paid a regular cash dividend since 1995, has $97.6 billion of cash and liquid assets and carries no debt on its books, according to a January filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. "It's clear to everyone that we have more cash than we need to run the business on a daily basis," Cook said during the keynote. "I would ask for a bit of patience so we can do this in a deliberate way so we can make a decision that respects the shareholders." Of course, the announcement of a dividend is just one of the many moves the company could make with its mountain of cash. The tech giant might be ready to announce a stock-buyback plan or a large acquisition, or perhaps it has earmarked the money for capital expenditures on large construction projects, such as its new "spaceship" campus in Cupertino, Calif., or its data centers in North Carolina and Oregon. Fueled by record sales of the iPhone, Apple posted its biggest quarter ever last quarter--earnings of $46.33 billion and profits of $13.06 billion. Apple's stock price reached a record $600 on Thursday in anticipation of song sales of the new iPad before retreating to a $585 closing price, giving the company a market valuation of more than $545 billion. The milestone highlights the meteoric stock price gains over the past three years, coming only a month after hitting $500 and three months after hitting $400. The meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. PT, will be hosted by Cook and CFO Peter Oppenheimer and will only address the company's cash reserves. No updates on the current quarter will be discussed. I think Tim Cook will deliver stock dividends. The reason why Apple will issue dividends is simple: many mutual stock funds will NOT invest in any company that has not given out stock dividend in recent years. It hasn't been done since 1999 buts that's because Steve Jobs wasn't in favor of giving money away. Tim Cook supports charitable giving and has already given steep discounts to employees. It wouldn't surprise me. Hello, everyone, if you are interested in Total Video Converter, and you will get more what you want. | | Saturday, March 17th, 2012 | | 5:02 pm |
iPad has become Apple's second-largest business segment Apple released the new iPad on Wednesday, which adopted a Retina Display, quad-core GPU, 4G LTE, and an improved camera. The updated iPad will hit stores on March 16. This is the third generation product since Apple launched the first iPad in April 2010. Industry analysts pointed out that since the launch of the first generation of products, iPad has become Apple's second-largest business segment, second only to iPhone. To the latest released iPad, Apple did not provide a specific name, calling it simply "iPad" instead of the rumored iPad 3 or iPad HD. To this day, no one has yet matched that display technology on any mobile device," Phil Schiller said of the 2048x1536 display (that works out to 264 pixels per inch). The new A5X chip is meant to excel at graphics, and has four times the performance of NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 chip, said Schiller. The tablet comes in at 9.4mm and 1.4 pounds, and will be available in black and white. It is 9.5 inches high, 7.31 inches wide and 0.37 inches deep. It will be priced the same as its predecessor: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB at $499, $599, $699 for Wi-Fi. For 4G, it will be $629, $729, and $829, respectively. Pre-orders will open today for the iPad's launch on March 16 in ten countries including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Germany, with 26 more countries to follow on March 23. Apple not only let the world in on details about its new iPad, but also showed off iLife consumer media apps for the iPad. Headlining these was a brand new iPhoto app, with new versions of iMovie, and GarageBand to boot—and unlike the new iPad, the apps are available immediately. Each app costs $4.99 in the iTunes App Store, but they're free upgrades for prior owners. Hot new features include Hollywood-style trailer creation in iMovie, new Jam Sessions and Smart Strings in GarageBand. But iPhoto is a completely new member of the group, and it's a stunner, featuring multitouch gestures for photo correction, brushes for applying effects onto specific areas of a photo, and "Journals" for creating attractive photo collections that can be shared on iCloud. And despite recent rumors to the contrary, the magnetic Smart Covers attached to the iPads in the briefing room were the same as the ones introduced with the iPad 2. In 2011, Apple sold about 40.5 million iPads and the revenue is nearly $25 billion, more than the revenue of Mac Business segment $23 billion. Now, the iPad sales proportion reaches nearly 20% of Apple's total revenue. The iPad's success has led Apple to become the undisputed leader in the Tablets market. According to data released by market research firm iSuppli, the 2011 Apple in the global flat-panel computer market share of 62 percent, while its nearest competitor Samsung, the electronic share only is 9%. US Investment company ISI Group analyst Brian Marshall said: “looking from apple overall gross profit, 85% comes from two products, respectively is iPhone and iPad. Speaking of the apple overall ecosystem, iPad is truly the very important constituent.” Hello, everyone, if you are interested in DVD Converter, and you will get more what you want. | | Friday, March 16th, 2012 | | 3:37 pm |
Intel Launches Xeon E5 Server Chips, Increasing 80% Performance On Tuesday, Intel officially launched the Xeon E5-2600 server chips, attempting to catch up with the trend of cloud computing. Cloud computing service has become the main recommended project of social networking site, continuous development of smart phones and tablets. Diane Bryant, who charges the Intel's data center, said the performance of Xeon E5-2600 chips is 80% higher than the previous generation platform, but consumes less energy. The new chips are mainly used to support the servers and workstations. Intel estimates the data flow of these devices will maintain an annual growth rate of 33% by 2015. Intel’s new platform has adopted by HP, Dell, IBM, Oracle, and Cisco, these enterprises announced the launch of the Xeon server platform. The new Xeon lineup squarely at data centers provide cloud services, said Diane Bryant, vice president and general manager of Intel's Data Center and Connected Systems Group, speaking at a launch event in San Francisco. The E5-2600 was previously code-named "Sandy Bridge". Doctor Jonathan Kozc of Swinburne University's Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing has used an early sample of the CPU to crunch numbers for his research into pulsars. Speaking at Intel's Australian launch for the E5 he said the new chip produced results “a factor of four” faster than those achieved with Nehalem processors. Besides, Intel's competitor AMD is also trying to invest into high-end areas of enterprise processor. AMD announced that it would spend $334 million acquisition of the micro-server enterprise SeaMicro, and promoted the emerging low-power server technology last week. AMD in the server market have been far behind Intel, the company hopes SeaMicro can help to improve and expand low-power solution for large-scale data center. Intel says the Xeon E5 platform specific than the previous generation products more than 50% of the energy-saving. Brent said: "We have considered SeaMicro's materials technology, but we are not satisfied with their products. Rejected the company's cooperation, our competitors will immediately acquires them." Intel the U.S. stock market performance steadily maintained at around $26.50, while AMD shares fell 3 percent to $6.86 on Tuesday. Although Intel still lagging behind in terms of sales of smart phones and tablet chips for Qualcomm and Samsung, but Intel executives pointed out that in the fast growing mobile market , the server business is capitalized. With the growing popularity of smartphones and other mobile devices, it increases the demand for large computer data centers, these centers can be used to store date, mail, video and other information. UBS expects that the expenses of data center will grow 49% with the promoting of Apple, Facebook, and Google and other big companies. German carmaker BMW has said it will be equipped with a Xeon server to ensure that all luxury cars to access the Internet. Mario Muller, vice president of BMW of IT infrastructure said: "Soon there will be more than 10 million BMW to access the network, producing more than 1TB traffic every day.” Hello, everyone, if you are interested in Total Video Converter, and you will get more what you want. | | Monday, March 12th, 2012 | | 4:18 pm |
Open the New iPad Face When all of us are hotly talking about the name of the next iPad, unexpectedly the next iPad: New iPad was introduced on May 7th; 2048 x 1536 pixels Retina display was showing to us, Apple redefined the category which is different from the previous ones. At 264 pixels per inch, the new display is considered Retina quality with indistinguishable pixels when held at the typical viewing distance of 15 inches. Voice dictation as found on the iPhone 4S is also included. Cellular-capable models of the new iPad also support 4G LTE as had been rumored by multiple sources. Supporting data speeds of up to 21 Mbps on HSPA+, 42 Mbps on dual-carrier HSPA+, and 73 Mbps on LTE, the new iPad offers a significant improvement in cellular data capabilities. LTE partners include AT&T and Verizon in the United States and Rogers, Telus, and Bell in Canada. Due to differences in frequency bands, AT&T and Verizon support will require separate models. Most of us know that the shorter battery of apple products so now let us to know about the battery life front, the new iPad offers the same levels as before: 10 hours on Wi-Fi or 9 hours on 4G LTE. As for the device's size, it comes it a scant 0.6 mm thicker than the iPad 2 at 9.4 mm thick, and weighs 1.4 pounds versus the 1.33-pound iPad 2. Android Phone is more popular than iPhone in South Europe Last year, operators provided subsidies to help iPhone get more than 20% market share in America and England and other countries. However, the situation was not optimistic in South Europe, as the majority of consumers of these countries have not signed the contract, and they had to pay the full price for smartphones. It means that if the operator is no longer providing subsidies, Apple's market position would be affected. Carlos Alberto Silva, the speakers of Portuguese operator Optimus, the entering of the low-cost mobile phone help intelligent machines to enhance market penetration and utilization of low-cost mobile phone, which is obviously referring to Android phone. Android phone does not come with service contracts, priced less than $200, compared to the expensive iPhone, and the general public in Europe is affordable. Portuguese wireless operator Vodafone Group sales cheapest 8GB iPhone priced at $680. The Android phone's minimum price is $ 106, Samsung high-end Galaxy S II Price is lower than the cheapest iPhone. In America, the price of any brand of intelligent machines is $200 or $ 300, the difference is not large. The spread in Greece, Portugal or some other country, smartphones, carriers do not subsidize the majority of intelligent machines. Greek operator Cosmote of mobile data service, Dimitris Koutsonas said the company's sales last year's best-selling smart machine is Samsung Galaxy Mini, priced at $100, and does not come with service contracts. In the current economic environment, operators prefer to low-end intelligent machines. Google Android phone price diversification led to the use of the operating system, do not need operator subsidies and ancillary services contract to promote the development of the Android market. From a sustainable point of view, the only product of very expensive equipment to access ecosystem in the long run can cause very serious consequences. Analysts said that in the United States, whenever a customer to buy an iPhone, comes with two - year service contract, the operator is necessary to pay Apple about $400. Sprint has acknowledged the iPhone subsidy is 40% higher than the average level of subsidy for other intelligent machine, and its aim so that consumers can easily buy mobile phones. Operators are reconsidering handset subsidies sales model, which pose a risk for all mobile phone manufacturers, not just Apple. Danish wireless operator Telenor ASA CEO, Eric Haug, said consumers are looking for a cheaper call package plan, which is more important than cell phone subsidies. In a contract for service and handset subsidies for the mainstream U.S., despite the weak economy and uncertainties over the past four years, priced at more than $300 smartphone shipments accounted for intelligent machines about 90% of the total shipments, IDC said. And in Italian, to prepay for the first time, last year the figure was 67%. In contrast, the economic crisis in the markets of Greece and Portugal, the 2011 intelligent machines priced at more than $300 shipments of total shipments ratio was only about 40%. Apple's next tablet will be called the iPad HD Summary: In order to promote its big new feature, the high-definition screen, that Apple's next iPad will break with its traditional numbering scheme learned from CNET. CNET has learned that Apple's next tablet will be called the iPad HD instead of the iPad 3. The worker who works at Apple provided reliable information with respect to things Apple and otherwise tells us the next iPad uses the HD moniker instead of going with "iPad 3." Some sayings about the next iPad names: That matches up well with a report from Gizmodo last week that included an alleged list of upcoming cases from Griffin, listing the product as "iPad HD (3)", as well as corresponding usage reports from an application called Tapatalk that included "iPad HD" among the list of devices using it. One big remaining question is whether that name is already in use. Apple owns the rights to the iPad name in the U.S. and other countries, but have others already beaten it to the punch online? On the domain front, the answer to that question is yes. The owner of iPadHD.com told CNET earlier today that he registered the domain before the original iPad was announced in 2010. He told us that he's never been contacted by Apple about the domain in the years he's held onto it. That includes the last few weeks. Separately, iPadHD.biz is already taken, and is currently parked through a domain company that offers a way to bid on the name. And iPadHD.co.uk has been registered since February 26, 2010 (a month after the iPad's unveiling), and is also parked. Just because some of these names are already taken doesn't mean Apple won't pounce on them after the fact. It did just that with Cisco and the iPhone name after introducing it--a move that led to a legal spat between the two companies, now settled. Apple also picked up iCloud.com from another company to play home to its cloud-based service last year. Apple has been known to tack simple modifiers onto its product names before, so a name like the iPad HD wouldn't be unprecedented. For instance, in the fifth major version of its iMovie software (part of iLife), Apple added support for 720p and 1080i video, and also dropped the version number in favor of calling it iMovie HD. The second-generation iPhone also simply got a "3G" tacked on the end to denote that it was compatible with third-generation cellular networks. A report from The Verge last July cited multiple sources as saying the next iPad would be called the "iPad HD" and that Apple would be unveiling it to sit alongside the iPad 2. Apple is widely expected to take the wraps off the next iPad at its event this Wednesday. CNET will be there to cover the event live. We'll have all the details of our coverage for you tomorrow. We'll know soon enough what next iPad will be like. Maybe if you are interested in Best DVD Ripper, and you will get more what you want. | | Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 | | 7:34 pm |
Dropbox Unveils New Photo Uploading Feature for Android Phone Network Storage online applications Dropbox for Android smartphone on Thursday launched a new photo upload feature, a move likely to further intensify their competition with Google, Apple and many other online storage solutions market, the market is developing rapidly. Dropbox only offers users storage space - the service will not provide any photo editing or manipulation features, like those provided by Google's Picasa program. With one click, new features allow users to upload high-resolution photos from the phone on the wireless to a virtual "cloud”, then the file can be accessed through any computer and mobile devices. Upload pictures for the first time after the availability of 500MB of free storage space, up to a maximum of 3GB extra storage space. Although this feature is only suitable for the Android system, but Dropbox said that the iOS version will be released soon. The Dropbox CEO Drew Houston said, they hope that the third-party developers are able to enter to provide accurate service. Houston believes that the new development has taken a small step, but for the build prosperity Dropbox ecosystem is a significant step. For example, Dropbox will encourage independent developers to write the program that can touch up to photo. Although the first release of the app will only be available for Android phones, an Apple iOS version will be released shortly, the company said. Users get 500 megabytes of storage after their first upload and can receive up to a total of 3 gigabytes of extra free space. "Facebook integrates your friends and social profiles in an ecosystem, and provides all the services." Houston said, "We also hope that Dropbox offers a similar ecosystem, which is a major theme of this year we are advancing." "Dropbox's new app, which targets a huge consumer demand for photo-sharing, was meant to secure and solidify their position as the best file-sharing service and trying not go beyond that, which I think is a smart move." said James Staten, an analyst at Forrester Research. Dropbox was created in 2007 by Houston and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology students, which is headquartered in San Francisco, has 100 employees, 50 million users, one of the most concerned about the start-up companies of Silicon Valley investors and competitors. Founded by Houston and a classmate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2007, Dropbox has raised $250 million at a reported $4 billion valuation. Earlier in this month, Google announced a cloud storage service Drive, which was regarded as a direct response to the rapid growth of Dropbox. Last June. Apple also announced iCloud service, which allows users to sync e-mail and calendar. And Microsoft has also recently pushed to expand its cloud offerings for enterprise computing. Nokia Lumia – The Most Popular Smartphone in Europe Windows Phone sales in the United States are reducing, and Microsoft is ashamed to publish relevant data, but it sales in Europe are much better. According to some recent data indicates that Nokia Lumia is most popular in Europe. European wireless operator Orange said Lumia 800 has become the best-selling mobile phone in Austria. Nokia is still the top mobile phone manufacturer in the world, despite increasing pressure from the iPhone and Android-based devices. The company, which makes the Windows Phone-powered Lumia smartphone and Asha line of "smartphone-like" feature phones, shipped 113.5 million units during the quarter, though that was down 8.2 percent from a year ago, according to recent data from analyst firm IDC. Windows Phone has made a tiny bit of headway in the US, constituting 2.4 percent of fall 2011's smartphone purchases according to a Nielsen study. But the re-introduction of Nokia to the country, at long last, could boost the platform even further: according to estimates reported in the New York Times, the Lumia 800 drove Windows Phone's market share up from 0.4 to 2.2 percent in London, and the phone has enjoyed similar success in Austria and Germany. Market research firm Canalys data show that the fourth quarter of 2011, the Lumia smartphone sales in Germany amounted to 0.2 million, Germany becomes the biggest market of Nokia Lumia. Indeed, the Europeans like Nokia mobile phones much more than Americans, so "For Nokia, Europe is the advantages of traditional markets, however, since the iPhone launch, Nokia will start to bear Canalys analyst Pete Cunningham pressure, in decline since then. Nokia began to find them in a difficult situation, and now Nokia has taken the first step of the revival.” Pete Cunningham also pointed out that Nokia's new Lumia smartphone sales in the London are much more than expected, mainly due to Orange's marketing. Microsoft, Nokia and Orange have teamed up and promised that the two-year contract users of Lumia 800 can get free Xbox 360. It is good news to Nokia, but to reverse the decline, Nokia still has a long way to go. According to the statistic of smartphones and mobile phones, Nokia is still the world's largest mobile phone maker, but the dominance of the company in the mobile phone market is constantly being undermined. According to the data provided by market research firm Gartner, 2010 Nokia mobile phone market share is still 28.9% in 2011 to only 23.8%. Nowadays, Apple became the world's largest smart phone supplier. Nokia Lumia 900 is a test that Windows phone of this company break into the U.S. market, which will be launched in the U.S. in the coming months by the U.S. operator AT&T exclusive distribution. However, Nokia has not yet unveiled the price of the product, only taken a "very positive" pricing strategy to the Lumia 900. Offering $1 Million to Reward Hacker Google are already for cash prizes totaling $1 million to reward the people ,successfully hack its Chrome browser at next week's CanSecWest security conference. I think it is not a bad deal even for a guy making a six figure salary. With that kind of money one can take another trip over Europe with his whole family for a month's expenses. That's not what I was complaining about, not the money. Google will reward winning contestants with prizes of $60,000, $40,000, and $20,000 depending on the severity of the exploits they demonstrate on Windows 7 machines running the browser. Members of the company's security team announced the Pwnium contest on their blog on Monday. There is no splitting of winnings, and prizes will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis until the $1 million threshold is reached. Now in its sixth year, the Pwn2Own contest at the same CanSecWest conference awards valuable prizes to those, remotely commandeer computers by exploiting vulnerabilities in fully patched browsers and other Internet software. In 2011's competition, Internet Explorer and Safari were both toppled but no one even attempted an exploit against Chrome (despite Google offering an additional $20,000 beyond the $15,000 provided by contest organizer Tipping Point). Chrome is currently the only browser eligible for Pwn2Own never to be brought down. One reason repeatedly cited by contestants for its lack of attention is the difficulty of bypassing Google's security sandbox. "While we’re proud of Chrome’s leading track record in past competitions, the fact is that not receiving exploits means that it’s harder to learn and improve," wrote Chris Evans and Justin Schuh, members of the Google Chrome security team. "To maximize our chances of receiving exploits this year, we’ve upped the ante. We will directly sponsor up to $1 million worth of rewards." In the same blog post, the researchers said Google was withdrawing as a sponsor of the Pwn2Own contest after discovering rule changes allowing hackers to collect prizes without always revealing the full details of the vulnerabilities to browser makers. "Specifically, they do not have to reveal the sandbox escape component of their exploit," a Google spokeswoman wrote in an email to Ars. "Sandbox escapes are very dangerous bugs so it is not in the best interests of user safety to have these kept secret. The white hat community needs to fix them and study them. Our ultimate goal here is to make the web safer." Ars will have full coverage of Pwn2Own, which commences on Wednesday, March 7. “I think you miss the point of these competitions. It's not just about the money. It's also about prestige and gives the gray and white hats a chance to show their stuff. Black hats do not show up to events like this, or report bugs at all. I'm not sure what you do for a living but $20,000 is no paltry sum of money. Granted Google will use it to improve it to make their browser more marketable, but people report these things for free before presenting their findings at conferences all the time. Apple’s 3G-Enabled Devices Can Be Sold In Germany or Not Summary: Apple was banned to sale 3G-enabled products in Germany in December, in 2011. It means apple products iPhone and cellular-capable iPad won’t be sold in Germany. This injunction was raised by Motorola Mobility. For this question they started the long term court debate. In December, 2011, Motorola Mobility won a preliminary injunction against Apple in Germany that could have seen Apple barred from selling its 3G-enabled products in the country. Apple did indeed briefly pull all 3G devices with the exception of the iPhone 4S from its German online store earlier this month, only to put them back on sale a few hours later after a court temporarily suspended enforcement of the injunction. But FOSS Patents now reports that Apple has won a much more significant decision in the ongoing case, as a court has now ruled that Motorola can not enforce the injunction for the duration of Apple's appeal in the case. With the appeals case perhaps taking as long as a year or more, Apple is no longer at risk of having its products removed from sale for the foreseeable future. The report notes that the ruling also calls into question whether Motorola will eventually prevail. The Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court ("Oberlandesgericht Karlsruhe"), the appeals court within whose circuit the Mannheim Regional Court is based, decided today that Motorola Mobility is barred from further enforcement of its standard-essential patent injunction against Apple in Germany at least for the duration of the ongoing appeal (which I believe will take a year, if not more). And while today's decision is only a summary and preliminary decision that MMI could overturn during the course of the full-blown appellate proceedings, this indicates that Apple's appeal is highly likely to succeed -- and even if it didn't, Apple could realistically resolve the problem with limited additional concessions. Much of the debate over the 3G patent case relates to the patents having been declared essential to standards for the technology, with Motorola having been required to license the intellectual property under fair, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory (FRAND) terms. Apple has now convinced the German courts that it has made sufficient good faith efforts at licensing the patent that any enforcement of the injunction by Motorola would be considered a breach of antitrust regulations. Apple has been pushing for reform in the licensing and enforcement of FRAND patents, seeking to bring clarity to the complex landscape of patent lawsuits. That landscape involves both standards-essential FRAND patents that must be licensed in order to promote competition, as well as other feature and design patents that allow companies to protect certain other innovations and distinguish their products from those of their competitors. These latest developments are separated from the current dispute that Apple suspends iCloud push email functionality in Germany, as the patent at issue in that case has not been deemed subject to FRAND licensing and Motorola is thus free to pursue enforcement while Apple appeals the decision. For this debate I don’t know what to say, just one word: it is important to obey the market rules, otherwise the bad thing will come. Why Apple Didn’t Include Siri in OS X Mountain Lion Apple’s latest OS X update, Mountain Lion, adds a slate of new features, nearly all derived from iOS 5. There’s one big omission, however: Siri, Apple’s voice-controlled virtual assistant, does not make the migration from mobile to desktop. Now, technically, Siri isn’t a part of iOS 5. It’s marketed as the most game-changing feature of the iPhone 4S (which runs iOS 5), and Apple has remained mum on whether Siri will ever be ported to other devices — this to the pique of independent developers who’ve hacked the feature to run on everything from the iPod touch to thermostats. Clearly, Siri is Apple’s most celebrated user feature. And, clearly, there’s interest to see it appear on other Apple devices. Indeed, companies throughout the consumer tech industry are exploring novel new user interface models, including voice-control and gesture-control. But porting Siri to Mountain Lion desktops would pose several challenges. Apple was smart to leave it out of the latest desktop update, and here’s why. Microphone Logistics Microphone positioning on MacBooks and iMacs would present technical challenges for any Siri desktop port. The iPhone is designed to be held up to your face, and has a built-in mic that includes advanced noise reduction technology to ensure your voice is heard loud and clear, while street noise and the nearby guy shouting into his phone aren’t picked up. In part, this is accomplished by using two microphones: one near your mouth to pick up your voice, and another near the headphone jack to identify and cancel out background noise. Yes, your MacBook Pro has an omnidirectional microphone built-in. It’s very convenient for using Face Time in conjunction with the notebook’s camera, or for the speech recognition function built into Macs for OS control. The omnidirectional mic, however, doesn’t offer the same voice-processing sensitivity of the iPhone 4′s dual-mic arrangement. All told, Siri voice analysis would be far more challenging on a Mac computer, particularly when other voices or noises are in the room. Granted, using an external mic, or even the mic on your throwaway iDevice earbuds, could provide a solution. But even though Siri is still considered a beta product, Apple wouldn’t resort to such an inelegant hack just to put Siri on Macs. “Apple has been reluctant to put in features that require something like that,” Forrester analyst Frank Gillett told Wired. “It’s too fussy for what they like to do. Current speech-recognition products work pretty well if you wear a special high-quality microphone. What’s very clear is they need the mic on your face, right by your lips.” Location Detection Siri is all about location-awareness. She wants to give you directions, provide local weather reports, and locate the closest sources of exotic cuisine. But desktop computers don’t include native GPS. Limited Use Cases With Siri, you can do things like schedule reminders, look up restaurant and business information on Yelp, get information from Wolfram|Alpha, and ask general search engine-style queries. That’s not a large number of functions, and they’re not specifically suited to the desktop environment. How to remove your Google Web History Summary: March 1 is the day Google’s new unified privacy policy goes into effect, which means your Google Web History will be shared among all of the Google products you use.
Do you know if Google is tracking your Web activity? If you have a Google account(for, say, Gmail) and have not specifically located and paused the Web History setting, then the search giant is keeping track of your searches and the sites you visited. This data has been separated from other Google products, but on March 1 it will be shared across all of the Google products you use when Google’s new privacy policy goes into effect.
If you’d like to prevent Google from combining this potentially sensitive data with the information it has collected from your YouTube, Google+, and other Google accounts, you can remove your web history and stop it from being recorded moving forward.
You can remove all of your Web History with the press of a button. (Credit: Malt Elliott/CNET)
After signing into your Google account, type www.google.com/history into your browser. (Alternatively, you can choose Account Setting from the pull-down menu in the upper-right page, scroll down to the Services header and click on the “Go the web history” link.) If your Web History is enabled, you’ll see a list of recent searches and sites visited. Click the gray Remove all Web History button at the top of the page and a subsequent Ok button to clear your Web History.
This action also pauses the Web History feature so that it will no longer track your Web searches and whereabouts. If you’d like to fire it back it, simply click the blue Resume button.
My opinions: In light of IE9's slamming of Google and Apple discovering that Safari had been used by Google to collect User data, this article would seem both timely and its steps a sensible precaution to take. However the writer makes no mention of any malicious intent or long term evil plans by Google once March 1st has passed. He simply provides instructions--as clear and simple as the ones provided by Google--for pausing or deleting your Web History. Google's repetitive messages about upcoming changes in its privacy policy, ("This is important stuff."), seem designed to alert Users to their choices and what doing nothing will cause to happen. That is transparency.
My observation is that for many, Web History is a valuable resource, far exceeding any browser History and to simply pause it or erase it as a knee-jerk reaction based on Privacy Invasion Fears is to both ignore the virtues of the History and to perhaps falsely believe your Privacy is somehow now protected from all potential sites seeking to get your data. It just isn't that simple. Some others think: Remove items from your Web History, as is common practice in the industry, and as outlined in the Google Privacy Policy, Google maintains a separate logs system for auditing purposes and to help us improve the quality of our services for users.
So, am I missing something or does Google keep separate logs in spite of the instructions listed in this article to disable history collection? Google seems to be saying that it does.
All kinds of ideas coming out when the things was been told, whatever, it is good things or not, but who knows.

Barnes & Noble releases the 8GB Nook Tablet America's largest traditional bookstore operators Barnes & Noble said that its third-quarter net profits drop down was mainly for the continued investment to Nook electronic reading device business, though the physical and digital books sales are on the rise. On Tuesday, Barnes & Noble also unveiled an 8GB version of its Nook Tablet for $199 and dropped the price of its Nook Color e-reader to $169. The price of the 8GB Nook Tablet and Amazon Kindle Fire are the same, and the configuration is almost the same with the Kindle Fire, 1G dual-core CPU512M cache, a 7-inch IPS screen. The company's existing 16GB version of the Nook the Tablet priced at $ 249. Just like the original, 16GB Nook Tablet, the 8GB is expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card slot. The 8GB boasts 512MB of RAM, however, down from the 1GB on 16GB Nook Tablet. With the 8GB Nook Tablet, 4GB of space will now be user-accessible. For the $249 16GB version, meanwhile, Barnes & Noble announced plans for a March software update that will allow users to flip their tablet's storage allocation. Users will have the option for 5.5GB of Barnes & Noble content and 8GB for personal content. When it's available, users can bring their Nook to a Barnes & Noble store for the update. After that, users can choose which storage option they want when purchasing the 16GB Nook Tablet. The Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet are different, though. The Nook Tablet is an ereader running on Android that has semi-reluctantly evolved into an economical Android tablet alternative. The Kindle Fire, on the other hand, is a distinctively Amazon device built around a uniquely Amazon experience. That adds a significant amount of space for those aforementioned personal files (videos, music, PDFs, EPUB, whatever). On paper, that's a nice upgrade for the Nook Tablet. Yes, it's still limited, but unlike the space-challenged Kindle Fire, you can always add that microSD card (for up to 32GB more). As tablets, both the Nook Tablet and the Kindle Fire are quite limited. Neither is equipped with front or rear-facing cameras, GPS capabilities, Bluetooth, or other features that are common aspects of mainstream tablets. But, at half the price of most Android tablets, the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire offer a compelling value as an economy tablet option. Barnes & Noble reported that revenues were up 5% against the year-ago quarter. Net income ended up at $52 million, which is flat from last year’s earnings. Third quarter earnings per share ended up at $0.71 a share. The revenue of the Nook electronic reader and digital catalog grow 38%, to $ 542 million. Barnes reiterated that the revenue forecast for the fiscal year ended April at $ 7 billion to -72 billion, including $ 1.5 billion will come from the Nook business. iPad 3 with More Tapered Edge and an 8 Megapixel Back Camera Apple Daily claims to have received photos and information through “special channels”. The photo shows what is claimed to be an overview shot of the new iPad 3 as well as a comparison shot between the original iPad, the iPad 2 and the New iPad. The shell should look familiar as it seems to be the same part we previously published. The lighting, however, is much better in this shot, and reveals the more subtle changes. There are notably no markings on the back of the case besides the Apple logo, itself. The iPad 3 enclosure seems to have a more gradual taper to the edges than the iPad 2. The taper is seen better on the top overview photograph. As a result of this longer taper, the iPad 3's camera rests on the taper itself. We saw this before but due to the dark lighting of that image, the taper seemed more exaggerated. The absolute positioning of the camera doesn't seem that far off from the iPad 2, but the lens does appear larger. According to NextMedia, the new iPad 3 camera will see a significant upgrade to 8 megapixels. The current iPad 2 back camera is 1 megapixel in resolution. The site also summarizes many of the other expectations for the iPad 3, such as an improved display, quad-core CPU, and a March 7th announcement date. We've seen a rumor from the site only once before. They predicted new MacBooks, MacBook Pros and MacBook Air models back in April 5, 2010. The MacBook Pros (alone) did launch 8 days after that report, though some of the details (hard drive sizes) didn't match up to the report. Overall, the images here seem to match up to other parts that have been floating around China. Apple Daily is described, however, as a "tabloid-style" newspaper, but the Hong Kong edition is said to be quite popular as the second best selling publication. Below are the comments: 1. It would be good to take photos on an iPad that aren't quite so grainy. That said, I did enjoy the flat sides on the iPad 1. I'll speak for everyone here, shut up and take our money. 2. Awesome. Now all I need is a back camera on the new Macbook Air/Pro and iMac, front facing camera on mac-mini, front and back facing cameras on the new Mac Pro (iff). 3. Can't be too far off now. Can't wait for the announcement to come so I can get to work and start taking calls from customers wanting to know when the iPad 4 is coming out... I really am interested in seeing what resolution the FRONT camera is. If they've managed to sneak in a HD camera like in the new MBPs and iMacs then this will be a great video conferencing machine - especially with a multi-user version of FaceTime. And so on……do you agree with their comments what do you think about the iPad 3? Samsung released the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) on Monday, the follow-up to its original 7-inch tablet and its first tablet to debut with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The 7.0-inch Galaxy Tab 2's specs are underwhelming compared to the offshoot Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, a weird prospect given that the Tab 7.0 Plus is meant to be a bargain model. The Galaxy Tab 2 shaves some bulk off the original 2010 design, measuring 10.5mm thick and weighing 344g, but it's a tad thicker than September's Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (9.96mm). Assuming it uses the same chip architecture, the Galaxy Tab 2 also downgrades the Tab 7.0 Plus' 1.2GHz processor to 1.0GHz. The Galaxy Tab 2 includes a 1GHZ dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, a pair of cameras, and the choice of either 16GB or 32GB of RAM. Those numbers make it more or less identical to the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, which should rightfully lead you to wonder why Samsung is realizing its latest device in the first place. The new 7-inch tablet feature a 1024-by-600 LCD display, it will also include dual-facing cameras, with a VGA lens on the front and a 3-megapixel setup on the back. Additionally, the device will be Bluetooth 3.0-compatible and have HSPA+ connectivity, though Samsung has not yet announced a carrier. In terms of software, the Galaxy Tab 2 will ship with Samsung Hub services, including Samsung Music Hub with a selection of 17 million songs; Readers Hub, which offers 2.3 million e-books and thousands of magazines and newspapers; and Game Hub, which provides instant access to various game titles. Samsung is also debuting Video Hub, which as the name suggests, boasts a selection of more than 1,000 movies to rent, as well as a trailers and reviews of an array of films. In fact, the Tab 2’s only significant feature is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which is supplemented by the latest version of Samsung’s TouchWiz overlay. And, really, it’s TouchWiz that we have to blame for the Galaxy Tab 2 in the first place. Samsung announced last December that the original Galaxy Tab would not be getting the Android 4.0 upgrade because the tablet’s hardware did not allow it to run TouchWiz alongside Android. Along with Google's latest snack-themed OS, the Galaxy Tab 2 will feature Samsung's new AllShare Play service, which lets users stream multimedia content between compatible devices. Neither piece of software is enough to justify a new model and the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is expected to get ICS sometime this spring anyway -- presumably around the time the Galaxy Tab 2 hits shelves. The Tab 2 comes only months after the Tab 7.0 Plus, which was released at a two-year contract price of $249 to compete with the Kindle Fire. Despite the Tab 7.0 Plus's low starting price, it has slightly better specs than the Tab 2: a 1.2GHz processor and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Microsoft Will Release Windows 8 Consumer Preview Version on February 29 Microsoft plans to release Windows 8 Consumer Preview Version at an event Mobile World Congress on February 29. In last December, Microsoft said a public Windows 8 beta would be released in late February. Now members of the press recently received an invitation to a special Windows 8 Customer Preview event in Barcelona as part of the Mobile World Congress trade show. It’s pointed out that Windows 8 is a big bet for Microsoft, because the appearance of this system will be Windows to make a radical change, such as a new show for the first time last year in the D9 Conference Metro interface. Microsoft released a developer preview version of Windows 8 at Built Developers Conference in last autumn. The operating system is the most drastic overhaul of Windows since the release of Windows 95, building of many elements of its Windows Phone 7 OS. Windows 8 is designed with tablets and touchscreen computing in mind and with an eye toward integration over all Microsoft’s computing devices. In addition to the new appearance design, the features of Windows 8 include a built-in store selling new types of applications. Besides, Windows 8 will not only support the AMD and Intel chips used on the Windows Classic, but also support typically used for the ARM processor for Android phones and tablets. The biggest change will come in the form of the full-screen "Start Screen", with live tiles and a "Metro" design that is very similar to Windows Phone 7 and the latest Xbox 360 software update. Apps for this Start Screen will focus on touch, and be available through a built-in marketplace called the Store. During a demo at CES, Tami Reller, chief marketing officer for Windows, said we should expect to see Windows 8 on tablets and ultrabooks. In an earnings call this week, ARM CEO Warren East said Windows 8 could propel more tablet sales than Google's Android mobile operating system has accomplished so far. Microsoft has switched to releasing a “preview” that is more or less feature complete and ready to go as a means of generating some anticipation for the actual product launch, but it isn’t necessarily expecting the consumer preview community to identify and report bugs. The software will undoubtedly be tweaked based on feedback, but Microsoft wants to get the public involved, and straying away from the scary "beta" word may be an attempt to do that. PC and chip manufacturers have said they are looking forward to this latest software release later this year, but Microsoft refused to formally confirm the final release time. However, Microsoft has in the last earnings conference call that 2012 will be a major release of the Year. Will Apple TV set be a reality in 2012? Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster claims that a major television component maker has revealed that Apple has made inquiries about the capabilities of its display products. "We are confident that Apple will enter the connected TV market, but timing remains uncertain," he wrote. "More specifically, the hardware could be ready quickly, but the timing and scope of a revamped TV content solution is unclear." Nonetheless, says another analyst, now might actually be a good time for Apple to take the smart TV market by storm. “The television market in many ways looks very similar to the landscape of the handset industry before the entrance of the iPhone,” NPD analyst Ross Rubin said. Indeed, all the major TV manufacturers are taking different approaches to smart TV implementation. The field is fragmented and lacks a clear leader — so Apple could very well enter an industry ripe for the taking. To be sure, Munster has scaled back his expectations since he predicted that the company would sell 6.6 million Apple TV set-top boxes in 2009 and launch a full-blown TV set in 2011. By fiscal 2011, Apple was still selling fewer than 3 million Apple TVs a year, and calendar 2011 came and went without the television set whose drum Munster has been beating for nearly four years. Munster said previous evidence included meetings in Asia earlier this month that led the analyst to believe the company was getting ready to invest in the manufacture of LCD screens ranging in size from 3.5-inch mobile displays to 55-inch TVs. A contact "close to an Asian supplier" told Munster last September that prototypes of an Apple TV were already in the works. Munster once again said that an Apple television was coming, but he now believed it would launch in late 2012 or early 2013. “A lot of the comments that Munster makes about service offerings are interesting, but they all have a lot of complications,” Gagnon said. “And unlike partnering with a mobile offerer like AT&T, as Apple did in the smartphone market, MSOs typically don’t have nationwide coverage, so they’d have to develop a lot of offerings to provide that coverage.” Observers have been looking for Apple's next major product line even as the iPad and iPhone experience booming sales and the Mac continues its resurgence with long-standing steady growth easily outpacing that of the overall PC industry. The rumor mill clicked into high gear on the topic of an Apple television set with Steve Jobs' disclosure in his authorized biography that he had "finally cracked" how to revolutionize television technology. Apple has also filed patents relating to TV with the U.S. Patent Office. Although these patents were ostensibly for Apple's set-top box, they describe features that have been linked to an Apple TV set, including a way to record TV episodes and to connect to a cable box. These patents were filed by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs before he passed away last year. Aiseesoft bring great discounts with you, please pay more attention to Total Video Converter...... |
