10:43 pm - Haven't written for one year
|
Happened to come across my blurty diary and realized that I haven't written for a year here. Exactly one year.
This is my first blog.
I spent most of my time on my second blog, a Chinese blog at Windows Live Spaces.
My third blog is in mixi. This is a clandestine one, as one has to be a mixi member otherwise can't read it.
Hey, I just don't have the time to write so many blogs!!!
Last year was a good year for me. A tranquil one.
This year it's gonna be devastating...

1:55 pm - SkyJump - from the Macau Tower
|
I jumped off the Macau Tower yesterday!!! It's called SkyJump - jump from 233m high. It's not bungee jump as the cord is not elastic, no rebound effect and the cord is not tied to you ankles. The harness only tied to your body, and less scary because the falling speed is rather controlled by the cord. The only scary moment is when you're about to jump and have only half of your feet standing at the edge of the jumping flatform. A bit taken aback when I realized how high it was, and had nothing to hold on to. Anyway, I didn't think and jumped off!!! Onlookers were very curious as I'm a girl, they said, 'oh it's a girl, it's a girl'. And the moment I jumped off they actually screamed! So funny! Thanks to Maggie and Jennifer, they helped me to take photos and short video clips on the floor where I jumped off (Maggie) and on the ground where I landed (Jennifer). They both did a very good jobs, very good clips and photos. Thank you so much!!! I actually paid for a package which includes the jump, 2 photos, a certificate and a DVD. Try it yourself next time you visit the Macau Tower. It's great fun!!!

1:15 pm - More than 4,000 songs!
|
Just got $1,000 Broadway coupons last week from the annual dinner. The worst gift ever. It was gift no. 151 out of 153 gifts. Never have I been so unlucky in company's lucky draw! Anyway, because of this limited 'sponsorship', I decide to buy an IPod Nano. Before that, wanna try to see what is 'podcasting'. If it's only designed for IPod, then I have to buy an IPod and not other brands' MP3 player. So yesterday I downloaded iTunes to the PC in office. To my surprise, I got connected with Chole and Ray's iTunes!!! Then Chole told me that because we're using the same server, so our iTunes are connected and now we can share all the songs in our iTunes. Ray has more than 2,000 songs plus Chole's 1,700 something and mine, now I have more than 4,000 songs to listen to in the office, WOW!!! Very happy!!!

3:00 pm - Iyashikei
|
I realized that I had just written 5 journals last year. I must have been very tired. I mean the fatigue caused by work must have been overwhelming.
Yesterday, talking about ‘iyashikei’, I also realized that last year I had been constantly consuming ‘iyashikei’ stuff like classical music & jazz. I had bought a bunch of CDs which have almost filled up completely a newly furnished CD shelf.
My favorite pianist is still Richter. I have only cheap stereo but I can still feel the electrifying effect of his performances, so amazing. Horowitz is also good, very refined & light. And I'm really impressed by the skills of Martha Agerich, esp. when she played Liszt's works. As for Jazz, I would listen to 'Kind of Blue' of Miles Davis when I was intensely stressful.

12:54 pm - Japanese TV dramas
|
I found myself addicted to Japanese TV dramas recently. The urge started off by 'Orange Days' (which I liked a lot) starring Tsumabuki Satoshi & Shibasaki Kou. Then the talk of the town 'Densha Otoko', which followed by 'Slow Dance', starring Tsumabuki again. It seems that Tsumabuki has an air of cheerfulness surrounding him, like the warm sunshine on winter days that make you feel so comfortable & safe to look at him. No wonder he is regarded as a 'iyashi kei' (healing category) actor. I finished watching 'majo no jouken' (a very old one) before the end of last year and currently watching 'Lunch no joou', starring Tsumabuki again!!! Because of 'Slow Dance', I noticed Fujiki Naohito again, so I have also d/l 'High school teacher', will watch it later. It seems that 'One litre of tears' are very popular now, should I d/l it as well? Better ask Joki for comments as he's watching it now. These Japanese dramas are like crash courses for brushing up my Japanese. The Japanese channel strikes back! It had already blocked my Italian channel (inside my brain) before I realized it. If Tsumabuki is a 'iyashi kei' actor, then Ken Hirai is a 'iyashi kei' singer, at least for me.

6:12 pm - Yearly Appraisal
|
- A terrible year, esp. the infernal period of end Feb to end June, the overwhelming workload was rather unexpected, as I had never have so many orders, and big orders at a time plus unremitting production problems which clashed with the busy development period. I believe that short of manpower is a negative input. - Losing morale: my workload was still regarded as ‘not that much’ and ‘complicating the working procedures’ being accounted for the perpetual OT during that period, has simply curbed my motivation to work better. This is also a negative input. - Problems can be a blessing in disguise, that I realized my inadequacy and that of those around me. I learnt many lessons the past year which turned out to be positive input. - Job satisfaction: this is never applicable as I never feel happy to get an order or feel sad to lose one. Orders can finally & ironically become ordeals. And I’m indifferent to client’s compliment.
I have written the above on my yearly appraisal. Let's see what will come of it.

7:54 pm - Dead tired
|
It's been 2 months that I work from 9am to 11pm, everyday (of course not counting the weekends)... really everyday... dead tired now. My assistant's been working hard like me, she got very sick, having problem with her skin on the face, exhausted and depressed... Why should I work like this? Maybe I'm doomed to suffer this year, the year of rooster, I hate roosters...... Been trying to make myself look good and full of energy... but can't put up with it anymore now. ...

11:08 pm - My sister got a ROLEX last night!!!
|
Thought I was really lucky about the mobile phone + Omega diamond watch. My sister was even more lucky. She got the 1st Grand Prize during annual dinner of her company last night, it was a ROLEX!!! A ROLEX!!! It's absolutely incredible, both of us got these expensive watches in the same month!!! She was really lucky as there were more than 300 staff in her back office and there were only a hundred prizes. She got the 1st prize!!! Though it's a men's watch, she wanna keep it as it means good luck to her. Besides, it was presented to her by the company's President. A memorable prize, so she's not gonna change it to a women's watch. Mom was terribly happy. She always wanted to have a Rolex, now she can wear it. What luck brought to our home???

12:12 am - $18,000 Omega watch!!!
|
Annual dinner took place last Thursday. It was our company's 20th Anniversary. During the 1st session of the Lucky Draw, I got a NEC mobile phone which costed $2280. Thought it wasn't bad as my prize ranked #45 among more than a hundred prizes. When the 2nd session for the Grand Prizes began, I was still in the toilet. Soon after I got back to my seat, big boss's wife drew my ball and I got the 3rd Grand Prize - a $18,000 Omega women's diamond watch!!! I was soooooooooooooooo happy! I got 2 prizes again!!!!!!!!! Never have I been so lucky in Lucky Draw!
Thank GOD again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You love me so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

During the appraisal yesterday my boss annonced to me that I got promoted to PROJECT MANAGER!!! In fact I am quite satisfied with my performance last year, esp. I managed to got the order of a plastic box project from Lancome and the Christmas box project from Biotherm. I was also very happy that the boss and the engineer of our French office praised me that I've been following these orders very well. :) GOD, thank you very much!!!!!

9:22 pm - Long time no write
|
Oh, I haven't written a diary for more than a week. What have I been doing? I wasn't very busy this week except Friday. Well, I had been quite moody for some days, don't know why... I blame the moon. Yesterday I had lunch with Peony, her finance & Kitty. First time meeting him, seems to be yasashii. They'll get married early next year. I was glad to meet Peony again, and happy for her impending marriage. We ate Thai food, then went to cha chang tan to have milk tea. Natsukashii for Peony. Yesterday night Catherine accompanied me to look for boots, finally got one pair just before Sogo was closed. This morning, saw an Italian film with Elaine, called 'Don't move' (non ti muovere). Penelope Cruz acted very well. Then bought a tin box of good Chinese tea at Great. Then went to Karaoke with Kathy & Catherine. Catherine hasn't been to a Karaoke box for a long time, didn't know any new songs.

10:31 pm - The Blind Assassin
|
I finally finished reading a 4cm thick English novel - The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. I'll talk about it in the 'Reading' section. Can't believe that I could read such a big novel while busy with my work. Actually, I've been reading an English book and a Chinese book at the same time. While I was reading The Blind Assassin, I have already finished 2 Chinese books - 'Reading the history from wars' & 'Murakami Haruki, Kawai Hayao ni aini iku' & started reading 'Monogatari Japan'. Well, so called Chinese books, all of them are written by Japanese writers! It's difficult to explain why I like Japanese literature so much. If you ask me who are my favourite writers, I'll say Murakami Haruki, Banana Yoshimoto, Kazuo Ishiguro (English writer though)... of course I love Alexander Pushkin, but it seems that I'm indeed attached to Japanese writers. However, I don't have the incentive to improve my Japanese. It's a pity that I cannot read the Original Japanese versions.
A bit tired today, though not busy. Reason: having nightmares for 2 consecutive nights. Very terrible. I dreamt of a woman who had her face cut off, covered with bandages & blood, blood everywhere, saw hands without fingers, just a round ball... woke up in the middle of the night. Terrible...

9:00 pm - Brother is OK
|
No emails this morning, left office early.
Back home, got a phone call from sister's bf, saying Standard Chartered Bank is cutting staff. Mom called brother immediately, but couldn't reach him. Then brother turned up during dinner, he's OK (sign of relief...). He said no staff knew about it in advance, they were informed by the newspaper, everyone was worried. Luckily, it's OK.

12:04 am - BBQ + Motorcycle Diaries + Dinner
|
Fri nite: BBQ in Repulse Bay to celebrate Raymond's birthday. Stanley came back to join us. As usual, we had a great time. Sat morning: woke up early to wash my hair, then went to see 'The Motorcycle Diaries' with Elaine. I love this film very much. It's about an inspirational journey for the 2 friends. The people they met on the way and the things they experienced were not particularly intriguing but very touching. You'll understand why this trip had shaped Che Guevara's outlook on life and the world. Gael Garcia Bernal played Che Guevara very well. He reminded me of Leslie Cheung. Sat afternoon: Italian class. Didn't learn many new things. I was very sleepy as I went to bed late on Fri night and woke up early and even saw a film in the morning. Very tired. Sat night: Dinner with Kathy, Catherine, Ricky, Tracy & Issac, to celebrate Ricky's belated birthday. Long time no see old friends. Had a good time. Kathy looks prettier as she put on some weight and face whitened. Tracy is still the same, didn't talk much. Ricky is still a party animal, heading for Macau to have fun with friends after dinner. We expected to see fireworks through the big windows but didn't see any. Don't know why. Sun afternoon: happened to meet Kathy in Galano restaurant. She was having lunch with her boyfriend. I was with mom & sister. After that, shopping for several hours. Bought a velvet blouse for Gary's wedding banquet and a pretty nice windbreaker in orange color.

10:07 pm - US election
|
Almost everyone is wearing black today in the office. If not all black, half black. If not half black, at least not bright color.
I hate Bush, but I think he'll win. I guess most of those who vote for Kerry just because they hate Bush, not really because they think Kerry is the right candidate.
Bush looks very energetic while Kerry looks tired and haggard. In terms of the 'air' (氣息), Bush is sure to win.

9:13 pm - A pat on the shoulder
|
Came across Big Boss today, I was blocking his way to the toilet. He gave me a heavy pat on my shoulder, I could feel the power of his sorrow (as if it was releasing from his hand...). He had the mood to talk to me, saying 'how are you?', asked about Lancome and if I still worked late...I guess I gave him a normal smile as if nothing had happened. Big Boss's big brother came to our office today. Another Big Boss's wife came yesterday. It seemed that they were preparing for the funeral tomorrow.

11:04 pm - Big Boss turned up
|
To our surprise, Big Boss came back to work today, regardless of the tragedy happened to him. He looked normal as if nothing had happened. My boss said it scared her even more. Actually, it's good for him. If he stays at home all day, he will only think about his son, immersed himself in the abyss of saddness & pain. He asked my boss not to talk to him... Don't know what to say...

12:09 am - Client's visit + Big boss's son
|
Yesterday Marie Laure (Lancome Marketing) came to our office. Heard her name for a long time, first time to see her. Quite charming, younger than expected. She did most of the talking (almost non-stop) for 2 hrs. I dropped down what she said, need to follow up and give a recap to my agent. Sometimes I was out of my mind, Francois knew it... Anyway, it's a good thing to meet a client in person. Learnt this morning that Big boss (older) lost his only son. They were in Bali for vacations, the 11 yrs old son got drowned in the swimming pool. Big boss has only one son and 2 daughters. It must be a serious blow to him. He's already 50 sth, I don't think he'll have another son. Wonder when he'll come back to work. Both big bosses are away because of this tragedy. What a hard time. The Christmas party might not be held this year I guess. Actually I smelt sth wrong - Mary the secretary bursted out crying a few days ago, and she ran into Thomson's room. The French chatted in low voice and looked solemn these days. And Yesterday Stanley (the designer who left our company 2 yrs ago) called me suddenly, saying that he learnt from his French wife that sth happened to Big Boss's son, he asked me which boss... My boss said he was a great kid and the Big Boss was very proud of him. How could he get over it? Will it be a wound in his heart that bleeds perpetually?

10:05 pm - Black hair
|
It seemed that only male colleagues noticed my black hair. They actually asked me whether I had dyed it black. Female colleagues didn't say a word until today, only one girl asked about it. Having no comments on my hair, I approached my assistant yesterday and asked whether she could find something different about my look. She looked fixedly at me for a while but couldn't tell a thing... For me it's a big deal about my hair, as it's natural born dark brown. I never have black hair and it's the first time I see myself in black hair. So it's really special for me.

8:13 pm - Brother's visit
|
Haven't seen my niece Agnes for about 3 months, came with brother today. Whole family went to Causeway Bay for tea drinking. It was rare that father agreed to step out of Tin Hau. He only goes for tea drinking in the neighborhood. Brother suggested a Chinese restaurant in the vicinity, I disagreed and so father let me decide. Agnes seemed to have grown taller, got a bit tanned. Lost her upper middle teeth, looked funny. Father was very happy, it seemed that after hospitalization, he became less grumpy and treasured every moment with us. I think I look better with brown hair. But mom & sister like my black hair. Wonder what my colleagues will say tomorrow.
