today, we watched a video about the enron and worldcom scandal. it was enlightening. all the while i kept thinking it was mainly the auditors (arthur andersen) who were to blame...aside from the CEO's of worldcom and enron itself. In fact it was a very complex scandal...and Financial Banks and institutions like Citigroup and various well known banks had something to do with it. yup, the provided under the table loans disguised as DEALS to Enron so as to hide their financial problems.
and u know what's the main cause of these m'fkin scandals which bankrupts employees nest eggs...and kills people's investments( a fella had a 500k investment...after the stock market crash, he was left with $999 dollars. >_<)
the main cause: Stock options.
yup, CEO"s have an incentive to boost short term financial performance so as to raise the share price value.... and so the bigger their stock options the more they are inclined to do fraud.
i should think there will be a limit with executive payments after that monstrous financial scandal.
yup, Clinton was a genius. He proposed executive payment should be kept to a limit. however firms still managed to have a loophole. Executive payment that time did not include stock options...
and so this trickery....fraud....began slowly but surely around 1994 i think....and it was only in 2002....when it all started to unfold.
man, how would u feel if u had a sizeable investment in worldcom or enron and the next day u wake up...the value is worthless...and to think u were planning to retire soon.... that would be a shock of a lifetime.
heck, maybe a shock is even an understatement. |

i did an unthinkable thing today. I had vegetable soup at lunch. at least i think it was. cuz it was greenish and had small leaflike vegetables...hehe
but today's weather is crappy. oh well. |
