Subject:Hawaii Part 2
Time:7:07 am.
Mood: tired.
Music:Kerry, Bill and Gena doing their show in front of me.
Right now I am sitting in the "library" of the Aston Kaunappauli Villas 4:08 AM Hawaii time. For the past two days I've had to get up at 1:30 AM Hawaii time, grab our 2 laptops, big box 1 which has our Tie-Line and mic stands in it and big box 2 which has the rest of the crap we need to broadcast such as microphones, headphones, speakers, etc. lug it all out to the car and drive it over to the Villas here which is about a 7 minute drive from our hotel. It takes about 20 minutes to set up everything including our webcam and then we just hang out as Kerry, Bill and Gena do their show. We're almost half way through today and then we only have to do this one more time on Monday morning. It's really not that bad though, we go to sleep about 11 or Midnight, sleep a couple hours, get up and do the show, then get back to our hotel by about 7:30 and sleep until 11 or noon. It almost feels like we never sleep since we're up late, stay up all night, then still get a full day in. Well worth the free trip to Hawaii.

As for the plans for today we are going to try to get on a catermaran to a place called Moulokai and go snorkeling. According to what I have been reading on the internet Moulokai is rated one of the best places in the world to go snorkeling. Apparently there are not only fish, but dolphins, sea turtles and giant crabs. Hopefully we can get on a tour that leaves around noon or later and serves a lunch or dinner while you snorkel. I've been talking a lot with the guy that runs the front desk overnight at the hotel and he's given us a bunch of tips on secret beaches, good places to snorkel free and other stuff to do that most people don't know about. One thing he did do is scare me. I've never been afraid of sharks but when we were talking about good places to snorkel off the beach he made some comment like "of course you want to make sure to keep an eye out for sharks" to which I asked if that was really a problem or not. He said that it's not uncommon for people to see sharks when their snorkeling in some of the less touristy areas. Apparently the sharks tend to stay away to the really populated areas such as Moulakai but are pretty common in the less populated areas. He also said one of his best friends was just killed about 9 months ago when he got his leg ripped off and bled to death while surfing. Anyway, now I'm a little more hesitant about just going out wherever like I was planning to do, either way it's not common for people to get attacked, so oh well.

Ok, well I'll write a little more later when I'm not about to fall asleep behind the keyboard.

Aloha <-- Sorry you just have to do it when your in Hawaii!

Subject:Hawaii Part 3
Time:10:40 pm.
Mood: excited.
Music:The sound of the palm trees blowing in the soft wind.
Well today has been an intersting day. It started out as usual with us getting up at about 1:30 AM to go broadcast the morning show. Afterwards we decided to come back and plan out the rest of our stay in Maui. We went down to the hotel lobby and talked with some Expedia "Activity Planner" and ended up booking a snorkeling tour out to Molokini (the place that is supposed to have insane snorkeling)... On a side note, we're sitting outside our room working on our laptops right now and a stray cat just went into our room. Anyway, we booked a tour that sounded pretty cool. Monday morning we go from Maui to Molokini which is basically the tip of a volcano poking out of the water that has a giant coral reef on it. We eat breakfast on the way out and then snorkel at Molokini for an hour. After that we get back on the boat and head towards a little tropical island about a half hour away. On the way there we are going to stop and whale watch (more about that in a minute) the humpback whales that are visiting Maui right now. Then we continue on to the island where we get to snorkel with wild dolphins and sea turtles for an hour. After that, we get back on the boat and have lunch on the way back. We're pretty excited.

Now kitty is sitting right next to me pressing up against my leg as I type.

Anyway, we have the night off so we're planning on going out for a bit tonight and maybe going to a club or something. Tomorrow morning we are going to get up early and do the legendary (well legendary in Maui) road to Hanna. The road to Hanna takes about 10 hours total and is supposed to me some of the most amazing scenery on earth. You drive a small 1 lane road past 300 foot cliffs, 250 foot waterfalls and some of the richest rain forest on Hawaii. You also get to go to black sand beaches, 7 pools which is some insane natural hotspring and a bunch of other stuff. Our "activity agent" gave us a CD that you play as you do the drive that tells you what your looking at and where to stop. Almost all the stuff I read on the web before we came out here said that you have to do this trip, so we will. Tomorrow.

As for today everything started out fine. I got some insider info from the guy working overnight at our hotel and he told us about a secret locals only beach, we went down there earlier today and it was amazing. Huge cliffs and rocks on both sides with a white sand beach inbetween. We got some amazing pictures and I will post them on the web as soon as I get done writing this. The only problem was that there were really sharp lava rocks in the water so it made it hard to swim, etc. We hung out there for a couple hours and then went to one of the coolest places I have ever been, Kanapalli beach. Now we went to Kanapalli beach yesterday but we didn't go to this place, this time we went to black rock, a giant natural pier that sticks out into the ocean with hotels both on and all around it. We snorkeled around black rock which was awesome, burried me so far in the sand that I almost couldn't breath because my lungs were so compressed and made a new friend Sampson the sand crab. I got some good video of Sampson but then he decided to fall out of my hand onto a car hood and run under the hood. Hopefully Sampson ends up in some crab party barge instead of inside the air intake of the crappy rental car.

Now although all this sounds fun, we screwed up something big time. About 1/2 hour ago we realized that while we were having all this fun, we were supposed to be helping run our listener party. All the winners from the radio station that won trips all gathered at this nice restaraunt for dinner. We were supposed to get audio clips, decorate the restraunt, and take video of the entire event. It was one of the reasons we were invited on this trip. Well, we forgot. All seems well and no one seems very upset about the whole thing but we're pretty upset at ourselves for missing it. Other than that Maui is absolutely amazing and I never want to leave. Mckell, we have to come here! Pretty much all the hard work but one more broadcast is done, so now, on with the playing!
