Time for new material ! From now until our official next show in Atlanta on Dec. 8th ( 3 days after my birthday..cough cough ;> ), Jon and I will be working on new songs and collaborating with a couple people as well.
We've recently finished two shows in NY all part of our new monthly, Electronic Life. Both successful with increasing support as Courvoisier and College Music Radio came on board. We're excited to hit the stage again in December ! Especially to reunite with our good friend David Craig of Suntoucher, come out and see an evening of electronic soul/hiphop and reggae... ATl style.. :)
October was also the Trafik Tradeshow, put on by Beneath the Noise. And we were privileged to be apart of the compilation album that was distributed during this expo. ( http://www.trafiktradeshow.com/ ) Misfilter was one of the acts along with other bands such as Aerial, Trances Arc and Dj Rhythm to represent Atlanta and it was a great opportunity.
Finally, I made a last minute trip home for a Turner Audition. They are putting together a new show and asked Misfilter to audition to be the houseband. We weren't the ' chosen ones ' but needless to say, honored to be asked to try out -
So in the next couple weeks, you can find us in ' the kitchen ' stirring up some trouble with new beats and I'll also be jumping around in NY on some dj sets...
All to be posted on www.myspace.com/misfilter -
** The Goods - Pick up a copy of Baby Anne latest release that came out this month for a taste of Misfilter...we're the last track on the album, closing it out properly ; ) - Our Vinyl release date from Sinister in the UK will be posted shortly **
Thats all for now...and to end with one of my favorite quotes..

So it feels like 40 years since we've played a show. 41. I've been the studio rat for the past year or so, just crankin' out new tunes, so it's so great to have some shows lined and especially in New York to start hitting the scene again! It feels like a fresh start. Food for the soul.
Jon and I have come a ways from our raw dnb days. I remember our first show at the Somber Reptile, ha... there was only 15 people there, half of them my friends ha and i was still so nervous that i went to go get a drink. I think they had homeless people working behind the bar because when I asked for a vodka cranberry she got pissed like i disturbed her or something and then she said they didnt' have vodka or cranberry. So i got some kinda ' knock me out ' concoction (is that a word? ), like a makers and coke..and then shook my ass to the stage and it was over before i knew it ! But man, to look back and remember the days when we solely produced dnb and breaks...its nice to spread your wings and sew in new elements and try new things. I guess there comes that point when you do have to take a hard look at what you're doing and go, where is this going to take me? i mean it goes back to that bedroom band vs. the one that tours the world..so lets just say, that the upcoming shows will be unlike any of our last.
And then comes the beauty of the internet. These days you can work with people that live in completely different timezones, highway robbery! I mean you can create full albums with John Smith that lives in Turkey whom you'll never meet but talk to online everyday, and that album just might sell a million copies. Hell, that'st he internet for ya' ! Gotta love it ! With the collaboration of some amazing producers, Influenza, out of Canada, we've started into the world of licensing..even ringtones..imagine hearing Misfilter screaming from someones phone haa..hope im there for it ! That's pretty cool.
Sooo that brings me to the, where the hell we are at right now portion of my little journal ----> well, right now we are booking shows in Atlanta, New York and California mostly. I've taken on this idea for a monthly called The Electronic Life Series, with September, October and December already under wraps...Where you at November!? ;> And while it's a Lot..did i mention, aLOT of work, it's totally worth it. Each show is going to be uniquely different..from the acts on stage, to the sponsors, to the radio stations involved...lets put it this way sept is going to be about electronic...female fronted acts...with a alcohol sponsor (undisclosed for now) and a radio sponsor..but its going to be a full on electronic night....Now, come see us at Joe's Pub and you'll be stepping into totally different...Misfilter vs. Say Word Entertainment...electronic meets hiphop....ohhh yessssss we're mixing it up folks! I'll post more on this later, but you get the idea. So that's it on the show front, lots of stuff in the works... you can also find more details on these shows at www.Myspace.com/MISFILTER
what else...Vinyl is on the way out at the end of the year from Sinister with our ' Want It All ' (influenza's remix), and Baby Anne just picked up the same song for her October release..so support the girls !
Ok, time to run, i just got some recording equipment from a friend, thankyou Scott !, so i've got a couple tracks to finish up. So, have a good Labor Dayyyy..it's gorgeouss here!! Finally! NY is cooling off..FALL...you gotta love it ! If you don't, get out ! :)
Alright , til next time...

So, it's April....again....and we're still working on our debut record. It sucks because life keeps putting things on hold. In the meantime, at least we aren't idle! Sinister Records is putting out our single "Want It All" on vinyl, another label is interested in one of our tracks, I've started playing out again. So things are moving along just, not as fast as I'd like.
Miami was great, I met some really great people down there. The weather was amazing but not half as hot as the women (I know that was lame, lol). I'm already looking forward to next year and possibly checking out Coachella at the end of the month.
Oh, last night the Verve had an album release party for the "Verve 3" remixes. It was held at the Bazzar in Atlanta. The turn out was so-so but the music was great.
Okay before I check out I want to get technical. I've been using Logic for years, starting with 5 a few years ago I've continued using up to the current release Logic 7. I think 6 was the most stable version that I've used, but the features in 7 are amazing and more than make up for! I was working in it last night but it kept crashing. I was really pushing it though, even with the freezes, and bouncing everything down to audio tracks. I'm running it on an Apple G4 1GHz Powerbook but I think it's about time to upgrade to a G5. Honestly I'd like to get into an TDM Pro Tools rig so I can run Logic using the DAE drivers to make use of the Digidesign processing.
Everything's so much more powerful and it can be a bit faster working that way. Unfortunately, I'm waiting for the day Apple starts making it's own DSP cards for Logic. But enough tech talk, I'm out.

People actually read this thing? While we were working at this studio this weekend, our engineer Derrick Selby (mazestudios.net) made some comments on our journal, which was cool becuse I really thought the only people who read it were Hadley and I!
Anyways, it's been a while, hopefully you didn't think we'd given up! We just needed a breather and time to mature into our sound. This weekend we demo three new songs, "Reaching", "Mr. Garvey" and "Let's Take a Ride". There's two versions of "Mr. Garvey" one that the DJ's are diggin right now with Hadley singing over this classic Mob Deep track and the other is a studio track. There was one more song, "Will You Meet Me" which I think is our most mature song to date. Look for these to surface in a few months once we finalize the mixes.
So we're just off to the clubs and the beach in Miami but I think some small little conference will be going on around the same time. Haha.

Hello !!
It's been a longggg time since I've updated the journal, sorry about that ! My only excuse is that ive been sucked up in the big apple, and I'm finally grounding myself ! It's 1:00am right now, I have clothes thrown all over the floor-- I still have to pack and yet get some kind of sleep before leaving for the airport tomorrow at 5am, baby !!!! Did I ever mention that I'm NOT a morning person?? I'm not kidding. People always say the older you get the less you sleep in, SAYS WHO!? I can still sleep solid til noon atleast...easy ! I love my bed, you won't ever find me smiling anytime before 10am , unless somehow work was cancelled or i won the lotto..possible, right? ;>
So Chord and I are going to the Winter Music Conference for the FIRST time this year!! Needless we Can Not wait !! So excited! I don't even know where to start..there is sooooo much going on..my only sure thing is my flight and my friends apt. I'm staying at...i figure if I let some things just roll, I'll keep my sanity!
So, where have been the past year!? I've been settling in in New York, which is NOT an easy thing to do might I add...it's a BIGGG City. I took for granted growing up in Atlanta and feeling pretty confident about knowing my way around, about going out on my own because I was sure to run into a handful of people I knew...well, welcome to new york ! It's night and day ! great city don't get me wrong, but I'm just starting to learn it's language. So I work at a record label during the day and work on new songs at night. I just flew home last weekend and recorded some new songs..which by the way are totally different than our old stuff. It has more of a mainstream appeal...we haven't given up on dnb/breaks...we're maturing our sound and bringing other elements into the mix...so be on the look out..!!
We JUST released our first cd! Magnetize! One of the remixes, by Influenza, was picked up by Sinister Recordings in the UK. We're definitely excited about that...our first vinyl ! And we're also getting that same song, Want It All, played on the Xtreme Sports program...so you'll be hearing more of us,literally : ) .
So basically to round things up, because I have to get some sleep!!! , Chord and Jam still live in Atlanta. I live in New York, and I fly home every 3 months or so and record new songs with them. We're taking advantage of the resources in both cities...and it's been great so far..so keep your fingers crossed !
Other than that, I'm working on my own material now and will start putting together a band up here to start playing out...because I want to root myself here and start performing..the city has a wealth of artists, it's just a matter of finding the right ones!! That's where the 'Starbucks' comes in . ha
No actually, starbucks is what I'll be screaming for in two hours if I don't close my eyes now...sooooo....
Gnite !!!

I saw Piper, updated this thing and thought I'd do the same. Change is definitely a constant in this band. Pipers currently recording vocals in New York while I'm producing new material every day here at Doppler Studios in Atlanta. There's a million and one different things going on! The Singles, the remixes, new songs ect.
I've started to pick up guitar and it's coming along nicely. It's already sparked the creation of a new song, a trip-hop ballad that we both love. And we've possibly found our new Guitarist in Shaun Burlow...my guitar teacher!
We're also in the process of designing our new T Shirts. Big thanks to the designers at You Work for Them who provided the design for the new Shirts which will go on sale in our store very soon.
Unfortunately still no LP, or EP this single's breaking our backs at the moment! Oh and make sure you check out our new Misfilter.co.uk domain! It's going to be our sister site and should be very different from this site when it's done!

ahhh..so 7:19 on a Friday night - Ssoo much has changed, my world has been totally turned upside down - a new place, a new job, ... and I'm starting to settle in. ;> Jon and I are releasing a couple singles in the next few months - with some amazing collaborations with other producers - such as Sketch & Code, and Influenza. In the meantime, I just found a great studio to record out of and I'm heading there Sunday to record some new tracks - soooo excited!! I loveee new material and I love finding new ways to express myself..such a cool feeling to finally lay the lyrics out to a track and after all this hard work, one day it just clicks and you 'feel' that it's right...to me new songs are like babies, you never know when they'll take their first steps- but the more time you spend with it and become intune with it, the faster it all makes sense.. In the mean time, keep your eyes open - I'll be hitting some open mic nights very soon - freestyling nights actually, so I'll be taking on some of the clubs up here - so keep any eye on the live dates -
so - that's it for now - Have a good weekenddddd!!

So saying alot has changed in the past year is an understatement. Piper's living in NY, I'm living on a plane, and we're still trying to figure out if we have a third and fourth member. Even my writing has changed. I recently made the transition from my PC (running Acid and Cubase) to a Mac (running Logic Pro, Pro Tools LE, Reason and Melodyne). Being people with very low attention spans, we've decided that while getting our band together would be great, it's taking longer than we'd like and in the time-being we're planning to release some club records. Because afterall, what we came to do is dance.

...what can I say..its been a long time coming..Atlanta is home..I was born and raised here..but i fit every metaphor they ever made about someone wanting to leave..something wanting to grow out of its shell..Im that bird..and I can't WAIT to fly! I want to sore..I want to glide..< I know.. that was dorky.hha..do I care? no.ha >
..but on the music side of things..I think will be a great moveeeeeee for Jon and I ! True, New York has much more competition..but it also has more ears..and its ears are more open to our type of music..there is definately more of a scene up there...so keep an eye out for us..we're not moving for the wind.. ;>
We've have a good time..definately got our start here and had the opportunity to meet and perform with some GReat local bands..like Slowearth, Katapolt, Aerial, and Royal 7....and played in the best and classic Atlanta venues...the Masquerade , DarkHorse , Duex Plex , Hard Rock < Thanks Derek!>, and who can forget our first show at the.....SOMBER REPTILE..oh my Go$..what a show.aha..we were baptized...a couple times..ewww.haa
**********so thats it...one chapter closed..and another opened..we'll be coming back for shows..but certainly working on our foot in NEw York...Thanks for all the support and We'll be seeing you around***************

Wow, so I just spent like 48 hours awake completing final production and mixdown on "Lovely" and "Sunshine". They sound good, hope the rest of the songs turn out this good. I love Cubase SX....thats what I've been doing the mixing for the whole album in. Basically my writing process goes from guitar (Jam) or keys (Me) to my making basic beats and recordings in a way I call "sketching" in ACID 4.0. I rarely use loops, but ACID is great for sequencing one shot samples to build beats. It's quick and I love it. It makes studder edits quick and easy as well. Then after I sketch out my ideas in ACID, I'll start building on my original ideas by laying down synth parts, or samples with Reaktor or Ableton. After the "song" is basically written and recorded, it's into Cubase SX for sweetening and mixing.
At first I was against it but right now I'm all about mixing everything at 24 Bits, and dithering down to 16 Bits after everything's complete. You can't hear the difference but when you keep comping audio parts (like do to save space), it just becomes insurance. I can mix at 24 bits and feel confident that I'm not at risk of losing quality. The funny is thing, I'll take it out to my old car that doesn't even run anymore to get perspective on what I'm working on, because studio monitors are known to fool you!

It's strange to see the progression of this group...when I first started working with Chord I was actually trying to put a rock band together..who knew a couple months later..I'd be shaking it to breaks with a guitarist and keyboardist..times are funny...you never know what you're going to get or how..but somehow, it finds you ..and just when you think you know what's going on...it turns inside out and its something totally different..
...but I love it...we're in for a ride...and its only just begun...

It's about 2:30 am and the Breakfast club is on. I'm sitting here working on some new tracks, including our cover of Aimee Mann's "Save Me". The theme song from one of my favorite movies of all time, Magnolia. That was a damn good movie, not because of the story because quite frankly it was mess. The beauty in that film is in Paul Thomas Anderson's ability to caputre like 6 different stories in one film. He succesfully captures life's serendipities, happenstance and randomness in a movie that holds up upon multiple viewings. There's no real moral to the story, as there's no real purpose to life. It just is.
So, by now you can tell it's waaaayyy past my bedtime, hahahah. Just like Magnolia our band seems to keep chugging along without a real purpose. We've gotten a lot done in such a short period of time. It's almost our one year anniversary and we've already played Tower Records, the Masquerade, and soon the Hard Rock Cafe. All without an album. We may be adding a fourth member, when not to long ago it was just me and Piper! Some of us have more fucus than others, but the real trick is finding a direction as a group. Hopefully, things go just as well for us next year.
Happy Anniversary guys!

Misfilter spent Easter weekend in the studio recording, "Take My Mind." Recording is a lot of fun but it's also quite painstaking. The guitar and vocals sound great. Mike Wynne, the engineer, knows how to get great sounds.
We're far from being done but so far it's sounding good.

So last week we were the last minute replacement for DJ Inanna at Goddesss! What a great experience! I'd say the night peaked right around the time our set was over which was both good an bad. We went on right after this kick-ass local band Aerial with whom we've been conversing with the past couple of months. They totally rocked it and set the stage for us. I think we went on around 11:30 and played for about an hour. We gave out mad T-shirts and the PlurPlanet people treated us well. I think the whole band gave it's best performance altogether. The sound was great. Nothing but mad respect for the people at the Atrium!
