More work [26 Apr 2004|10:52pm]
Well!!!!!!!!!!

Its nearly there!

Cept Chris didnt make the speaker wires running to the amps quite long enough so i still have no sound until tomorrow night when we go buy some more.

However, the dash is back in and the head unit mounted. The cebtre soncole is back in. The seast covers are on but the back seat isnt back in yet! The strobe lights in the boot are in and working. The box is made and covered waiting for the rest of the metal finishing strips. The false floor well its waiting for Darren to finish it which will hopefuly be this weekend or Chris might do it if he decides he can.

The speakers are mpunted on the doors, just have to work out what to do about the tops of the map pockets (grill part) as we had to cut it off slightly to fit it in, but i will worry about that on the weekend. Might have to get some tape and paint it purple.

So all in all its NEARLY there!

Pics will be in next post i might go take some now!

Its Nearly there.......... [18 Apr 2004|09:28pm]
[ mood | accomplished, but still sick ]
[ music | Nothing - Vv noise ]

Well its getting there!

So far today, i covered all the panels in the boot. The boot now has the purple cover for the fuel tank and wheel wheels as well as the sides. We have yet to finish the false floor and i have to make one more panel for where the tail lights are!!! But so far what i have covered is in and even if i must say so its looks really really really good. Also put the same material around the handbrake and gearstick! Its on the map pockets that cover the speakers and will also be on the trim in the doors :)...................once i buy some purple seat covers

Cost of material for boot came to $18.00

The sub box has been builts (THANKS DAZ) It just needs a few little gaps sealed to make sure its perfect and i have similar fabric that i did the boot in to cover it. Only difference is that the fabric for the subbox has silver stars and moons on it, which should look cool with the 2 purple strobe lights i am going to put in :)

I have put carbon fibres adhesive on the gear stick surround, the centre console and on some areas of the dash. looks pretty good. matches the new carbon fibre gear stick knob i brought last week :) Also made the new face surround for the head unit, but havnt bothered to install it due to lack of speakers as yet.

We estimate 1 more good full days work before completion, so unfortuanltely another week with no stereo :)

TO DO..................

*Cover sub box and screw in sub
*Cut false floor into 3rds and cover
*Mount sub and amps to boot
*Finish mounting new map pockets to door trims.
*Finish mounting speakers to doors!
*Mount cradle for head unit into dash
*Mount faceplate!!

Thats about it :)

Thanks Daz and my lovely boyfriend Chris for working so gard all weekend *again*

Boot Lining [16 Apr 2004|11:17am]
Well purple carpet is going to prove to be too difficult and expensive to find seems as most people have it made to order soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, i am going to go to spotlight tonight and source a purple velvet type fabric. This will enable me to do the following things;

*Completely line the boot easily as i can glue it straight onto the false floor and also the moulded parts at the back
*Covert the subbox
*Glue into the map pockets where the grey carpet used to be
*Make a cover for the handbrake
*Make a gearstick surround cover (old one is vinyl and crappy and coming apart)

This means the boot will look sorta funky and will tie in better with the car interior. Next pay i will also be purchasing purple seat covers (both front and back) I love the colour of my seats and all but they dont work with the new colour scheme and i am not quite yet prepared to die them..........UNLESS someone can tell me thats its easy as they have done it before and is prepared to help so i dont fuck it up and also tells me how much the die is and where to buy it from Dieing is a possibility as even with the seats covered i have some interior trims thats the same colour as the seats so it would be cool to die those as well. The floor carpet however is stayinmg greay as it does still fit with the colour scheme!

Car Stereo Install- Part 1 [15 Apr 2004|11:42pm]
[ mood | sick (I've got a head cold :( ) ]
[ music | Just whatever shit is on TV, Average Jow was on but its since finished. ]

Well this is the story so far....................

Chris has run all the RCA's, speaker wires and power cable ready for the amos etc. The head unit plug is in. The false floor and the cover for the fuel tank is cut! The indicator issue with it draining power was solved by a new flasher can..............however since having the dash out my electric mirros no longer function BUT thats a minor hiccup!

To do............ Daz is coming over Saturday to build the sub box, and cut the flase floor into 3rds ready to install into the boot. Chris is going to make up a bracket to hold the cradle so we can mount the head unit.

Chris and myself then need to look at the doors and work out how to mount the damn VS Door map pockets to my 929 doors. Apparantly not hard but i dont talk to the guy that told me its easy anymore so yeah we have to work it out. The tweeters and speakers will then have to be mounted into the doors.

I have lots of carbon fibre sticky stuff to put everywhere in the interior in the dash area. it will match the new carbon fibre gear stick knob i brought :)

We have 2 purple strobe lights for the boot. That will make it a bit funky!

Um currently the car has most the dash missing, centre console missing, and no back seat. The carport also looks alot like a construction zone of sorts :) But its all good.

Yet to do............... need to source some purple carpet for the boot, (false floor and sub box) and also for the map pockets where i ripped off the old grey carpet. Might not use carpet though might end up using like a felt type thing coz a) its cheaper b) its a bit funkier C) dunno if i can purple carpet i like D) dunno if i can buy carpet in small amounts (only need abotu 1 1/2 metres squared)

Pics to come this weekend as i have to get the digi camera. Will have some up by Sat lunch of how the car is right now. By Sunday we might have it a bit together so i will have up even more. Wish us luck!!

Thanks

Nic

Car Stereo Install- Part 1 [13 Apr 2004|08:21am]
Well the cause of all my electrical problems seems to be the flasher can. We grabbed a new one and my oh my problem solved. Head unit no longer turns off when inidcating. The wiring for the new Mp3 player is all in, but nothing mounted.

We now face our next problem.............getting the power wire through the fire wall *fun fun fun*

Anyway gotta go to work will update more later :)

IS it dodgy if my Head Unit cuts out when i indicate? [20 Jan 2004|09:27am]
Well yes you read it, we have actually found the problem off my car going dead by fucking up something else LOLOLOL. My car has no accesories so Chris hooked it up to the indicator as he needed only accesories. However we didnt realise the indicator must actually have a short, as whenever i indicate the whole head unit cuts out and wont come back on until i stop indicating. *yay*

So firstly tonight we are swapping that accesories wire to the ciggarette wire and then when we get a chance we have to start looking where the short is. But i bet if i park and leave my indicator on the car battery will go dead (a test i am not willing to try until a weekend when i dont need the car................hehehehe)

*shrugs*

Its quite funny though, also the Herad unit si now mounted between 2 t-shirts to keep from bouncing around.

Stereo Install [18 Jan 2004|09:44pm]
Chris and i just did the dodgiest install EVER.

The el cheapo $20-00 head unit is now in my car and working so i have a cd player at least. However its not mounted on anything its sitting on a folded up scarf to cushion it when i go over a bump and it has 2 cable ties at the back so it doesnt fall out of the dash when i accelerate hard.

Its very very very very very leb stylez.

I shall get pics up of it in a few days........... oh well its only a practice thing for when we have a decent head unit that way we make all the mounting brackes and new face plate up with this one coz it doesnt matter if we damage it.

Sunday Bloody Sunday [11 Jan 2004|10:31pm]
[ mood | satisfied ]

Today my car had its first real bath (LOL yes its taken this long) Its come up quite well. The decision has been made to borrow Daz's electric sander and sand back both front headlights, the nose panel and the RHS front guard. Then purchase some aerosol paint thats at least matched to the car. You can get ti from K-mart its about 10 or 12 a can. I will most likely need at least 2 cans. This way the car will start to look ALOT better than when i first brought it.

I have finally put the rubbers on the back of the lowe beam part of the pop-up lights so now one side wont fill with water and blow anymore............. thats a good thing i am sick of driving with only one light for low beam.

I also vaccumned it all out and made it nice and clean. Oh yeah and extended the wire for the horn so now i have a horn back in working order............"Road rage here i come on yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next week we are off to Rosebud for most of the weekend so it will be a few weeks before work commences on the stereo again. But i have many ideas but i cbf typing them up. I will however take MANY pics and post them up as i complete each section.

Melissa's front end on her car is also repaired its took a bit of work maybe 3 hours worth to remove all the bits on the front end. that was done previous to today though. Mel and i went to Jolly Rogers and grabbed all the new parts. It took all day to repair it and straighten it out. Its all fixed now and is pretty good. We painted it with the closest match of blue paint from super cheap we could fine (sky blue in export brand) Its slightly lighter but the match is better than on my car. She is happy with it anyway. The only bit thats slightly dodgy is the fact the bonnet has to be forced open with the chisel i gave her to keep in the glovebox and then it has to be banged shut. But thats cool it stays shut and everything is sweet there.

Thats all folks, shall keep people informed on the stereo and riced up interior mods.

Currently driving around with the centre console out, no head unit and wires hanging everywhere, and the surround to the steering column out.

We went to install the head unit, only to find it has power but wont switch on, but the guy that i brought it off (cheap mind you) is sending me another tested unit free of charge that definately works. If we still cant get either one going we will give up and wait a few weeks till i get something pretty good.

It might be more like 2 months as opposed to 1 month of waiting due to the fact i have a million bills ot pay and i know all the household bills are due any day now to arrive :(

Ah the joys of owning a car.
