Each week, a decorated matchbox with a tiny present hidden inside is left by a girl (and sometimes willing friends) somewhere in her travels. It's a random act of semi-artistic kindness aimed at disrupting someone's day in a tiny but positive way. That's if they dare to pick it up...

One of my most favourite matchboxes I've ever received, was this arty little one from Scotland, my favourite thing about it, the tiny grains of sand on the side where you usually strike the match. Hundreds and thousands is hardly as organic, but it's festive. It's my birthday this week and contrary to many people's belief that you stop counting down when you turn 12, I've been steadily counting down for weeks now! The day itself is on Thursday and my plans so far are unknown. My boyfriend has planned activities, so until then I have been warned against snooping (it's my specialty), to be dressed casually and be up and ready to go by 8.30am. I am hoping the day will include one of my many favourite cafes, an animal documentary and a GIANT cupcake. But I'm open to surprises.

The matchboxes continue to spread from the ACP and beyond. In the past week they've travelled to Singapore, to the Northern Territory, to Bondi Beach and some are very nearly in NYC. It's been an excellent experience, everyday I receive emails from new matchbox leavers, detailing their chosen locations and experience of abandonment. The best thing about it, is having these miniature interactions with people I don't know. For example someone will email and say they've still go the box safe, but they're waiting until they go on holidays in a couple weeks until they leave it. So I find myself writing emails like - Thanks Bill! Enjoy your holiday! It's completely surreal and I love it.

There are a few changes this week that I'm excited about. A new little cousin was born, baby Jet, I'm yet to meet him but I'm sure I will soon. And I've joined the Monday to Friday club.. had my last news shift on the weekend and will now be a real full time current affairs worker. Looking forward to it, and weekends!
