11:55 pm - Morbid thoughts
There's been a rash of suicides at NYU recently. First, someone jumped from I think the tenth or eleventh floor of our library, which has a large atrium in the center. Shortly thereafter, someone else copied that bright idea, whereupon NYU promptly installed a lot of rather surly guards and started to install something or other to prevent people from jumping there. So someone jumped from their dorm window instead.

There was a veritable epidemic of suicides in Micronesia in the 80s, all started by one well-liked teenage boy who left a note and then choked himself with a noose. It had been unheard of, and literally became the cool thing to do. Not only did hundreds of other boys start killing themselves over every little thing, younger ones "practiced" for when they would surely one day do the same thing, because literally, everyone was doing it. Crazy.

Damn, I'm tired.

12:26 am - Central park pictures
It was so nice out when I got off work today that I wandered into Central Park instead of heading home. It was overcast and no good for taking pictures, but I did anyway because I had my camera on me. Also, my iPod had run out of battery. :D

I also climbed a tree. It was such a perfect tree for climbing, I absolutely had to. I did not climb many trees in my misspent youth, but neither did I have any trees like this in my backyard, just trees that I would be absolutely guaranteed to kill myself in.

11:11 am - Mer.
The Student Activities Board does not like my idea of a Medievalists club. They think we should join the Classics Club instead. Evidently the classical period is the only period of history worthy of having a club.

I suspect the Classics Club would try to run us off as a bunch of barbarians who burned all the interesting books and not be terribly impressed by it having gotten better later.

Sigh. To appeal, or not to appeal? I bet they'll junk our appeal, anyway.

Oh, and I don't know what other clubs were accepted in this round of applications over mine, but this school already has a "New Englanders for America" club, a "Pop Music Lovers" club, a "Poltergeist" club, the nature of which is not explained, an "Iranian Jewish" club, a "Leadership through Literature" club, and a "Fashion Business" club.

6:04 pm - The what in his bed?!?
Like, I presume, the rest of you, I have read our ... uh ... I guess we'll call him our president, anyway, his ... uh ... poem? Do we have to call it a poem? Anyway.

I, too, have taken a stab at rendering what I believe the man was trying to say. It goes a little something like this:

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I haven't exactly been
Faithful to you

Because you've just been
The lump in my bed
And my friend Tony Blair
Goes down and gives head

So if you were thinking about getting with that Chirac
My Secret Service goons will always get your back.
Besides, I like to take out the competition
When I'm out on a diplomacy mission.

Uh, my right middle finger is all hot and swollen and stuff. It's really annoying -- like an infected cut without the cut. I don't get it. It makes typing great fun.

Guess I'll get back to that paper that's due tomorrow morning then ...

6:55 pm - Stuff
Like a good ickle free market capitalist, I promptly opened a new checking account when I discovered it was damn near impossible to deposit any checks at HSBC. HSBC? This "closing at 4:00 pm" shit? Not cool. I know you like to go home early, but the rest of us don't exactly get to, you know? So how do we bank with you?

The branches I used to go to were open until 5:00, yes, but they're kinda far away and by the time I made it to them, it was 5:00 (well really, 4:55) and their doors were locked. That was really the last straw.

I got my Tea Party sweatshirt today. If it were any bigger, I would get lost in it. (Smallest size medium.) However, if it were any comfier, I would fall asleep. Danny would steal it, but he allegedly hates the Tea Party. His loss. :-P

tazadebevita, you caught me away from my computer. Email me the you-know-what?

Going to see the Threepenny Opera with scholars. Go scholars, I guess. We're reading that in class later, too.
