12:34a - Questions on the potential of mate selection...
Today was an interesting day, and very fulfilling, in my opinion. Started off not too good because my mother kept barging in on one of the only days that I can actually sleep in. But, it ended up all in all a great day!
After the sudden interruptions in sleep by my mother, I had to be at the Delaware Center to work on a biology experiment/project with my friend Holly. She picked the topic- the psychology behind mate selection and physical beauty. Well, one part of our project entails us to go out and compile pictures of a vareity of different people (wheter we think they're good looking or not) and then use them to help us survey 100 people about what they find attractive in facial features of their mate. Well, we ended up at Polaris mall, and let me tell you- not only did I meet some interesting people, but the comments we got for the project as well as 2 whole rolls of head shots made it somewhat of a productive day! We ended up at the food court, and I would say that it was very crowded. So, I pinpointed the blonde hair/blue eyed guys that we needed for the headshot thing. (I stress the needed part ;) ) But, anyways, Holly's kinda chicken about confronting people, so I did. Turns out we got their picture, as well as the rest of their hockey team's head shots. I guess they were the hockey team playing against the Blue Jackets this week. Not only that, but because women were being really rude after we asked them questions, Jason, one of the teammates, offered to walk around the mall with us and approach them. He was a lot better than me with his proposals for pictures, being all polite about it with, "Excuse me 'Mam, ..." and everything. I was extremely amused!
Later on, my best friend in the whole wide world Jake asked me to go to a play with him for his theater class. I think Jake figured that he could ask me because he knew I would stay awake for it and figured he could count on me to remember what happened in it so that he could write his paper for his theater class. It was at the Drake Union, so it was a student production- but I must say that I was quite impressed. I have always been a fan of live theater, and obviously Jake hasn't acquired a taste for it, so I delightfully accepted his invitation. I don't mind hanging out with Jake, and love his company- although he said something tonight that kind of urks me- he said that I was acting too grown up, and that I should let loose and have some fun with my life. I was offended by that comment because what I perceive as fun, isn't necessarily what he perceives as fun. I know Jake doesn't necessarily go out and get drunk every single night of his life, but he does it on a regular basis, and goes out a lot to concerts/bars and such, and though I like concerts, I just can't do that kind of stuff that often. I find work fun, I find my sorority fun, and I need to study to stay in school. I go out and have fun. Julie and I have fun a lot doing what we do- going to nice restaurants and eating out, going to theater, going to movies, something relaxing. I don't like to feel like I'm always on the go. Jake kind of knew he had offended me, and I understand why he thinks I'm not having fun- it's because I don't have fun enough with him, most likely. And I love him to death, but his mindset on things is completely different than mine, and I think that's where we tend to separate. I know he'll be there no matter what because Jake is such a loyal person, and I know at some point he'll start to think somewhat on the same lines as me. I just don't really think I'm acting that "old". I think I just have different interests, and if anything, I guess I should take that as a compliment.
The other thing that made my day was the fact that I got to see my friend Chris. He was in one of my classes that I dropped, and I don't get to see him anymore. Though we didn't have really that many productive conversations, it was still nice to see him and see how he was doing. Turns out he's going to be on main campus next quarter, like me! He's moving into the dorms, too. I told him that he should stay in touch, and he said he has my number and that he'll visit me at the DZ house, and he said that having my econ book gives him an excuse to come visit, too. I guess that's a good thing, eh? :)
Well, got to finish e-mailing my friend, then off to bed. Night night.
