Kind Words [01 Mar 2005|11:03pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

Mother Teresa once said, "Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless." Even though she has now passed on those words will always live on through the lives they've touched. You see, Mother Teresa was as humble as a woman can get. No matter what challenge she was thrown in life she always somehow took the bad and turned it into good. God blessed her with the gift of making a difference in the world and blessing people's lives through her words and actions. You don't really have to be an adult to understand what Mother Teresa was trying to get across in her quote. All you really have to be is human. As humans we would like to believe that actions speak louder than words, but sometimes words speak louder than actions. A simple kind word can change a person's life forever, not just for a minute or two. If you think back to the shootings at Columbine and what motivated those two boys to do what they did, kind words said to them could've stopped the shootings from ever happening. The two boys did what they did because they hadn't heard enough kind words in their lives from their friends, classmates, and families. I truly believe if they had met someone like Mother Teresa, who didn't judge them on their looks and just accepted them for who they were, the shootings at Columbine would've never taken place; young lives would've been spared.
I for one can personally say that for me kind words were what got me through those first two weeks of my freshman year of high school when I didn't know anybody. An administrator took me under his wings and was nice to me no matter what the day had been like. No matter how many crappy hours before lunch he had, he still put all of those aside to make sure I felt welcome and like I belonged. I'll never forget that, because in the time of my life when I was losing hope for humanity that teacher came through and made sure I knew not everyone was bad and there was still hope for me in high school.
So, next time when you see somebody at school, work, or walking down the street make sure you stop an say a few kind words to them. Who knows, you may just end up being that person who saves someone's life.
Until next time, God Bless! -Olivia
