Theodore Roosevelt the 26th president of the United States once said "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. " The thing about that particular quote over all of the quotes I've read or heard lately is that even though everyone should live by that quote not everyone always does. Especially when you're a teenager caught up in the life of being a high schooler and too foucused on what people think of you. See, when you're all of those things, or even one of those things you can't live by Roosevelt's quote because there's always something stopping you. Lucky for me, I'm neither of those things now, but sadly I once was both of those things. Thankfully, I got sick and my grandma died all in the same year so I sobered up and became thankful for life, taking one second at a time. If neither of those things had happened to me I wouldn't be the way I am today. I wouldn't be volunteering at the Humane Society and I wouldn't be friends with Christina, Lauren, Michael aka Dwyer, Whitney, Lindsay, or Meggie. My whole life would be 360 degrees different if both of those events hadn't taken place. I would be so active in Student Council I wouldn't have time for much and I would be so caught up in the life of a high schooler I wouldn't be the care-free person I am now. But, now I spend my time doing something most people don't. I make my life upon doing what I can, with what I have, and where I am. Even at school. Yep, it's true. EVEN AT SCHOOL. Can you believe it? Nope, neither could I at first. I do something too many people don't take the time to do at school. No, I'm not talking about homework. I'm talking about thanking my teachers as much as I can and just simply trying to make their days better when I get the chance. Ok, so maybe one of the reasons I'm more thankful than most for teachers is probably because I used to be that troubled kid who couldn't seem to stop making hell for people. So much so that I would get kicked out of the classroom from time to time and my grades weren't even close to being all A's. I was one of the top trouble makers and was proud of it (at the time). Bottom line is do what you can, with what you have, and where you are because if you don't you may live to regret it one day. I for one can say if I hadn't changed I would probably end up regretting a lot of my life. Until next time, God Bless! -Olivia
