Lent
There are traditionally forty days in Lent which are marked by fasting, both from foods and festivities, and by other acts of penance. The three traditional practices to be taken up with renewed vigor during Lent are prayer (justice towards God), fasting (justice towards self), and almsgiving (justice towards neighbor). Today, some people give up something they enjoy, and often give the time or money spent doing that to charitable purposes or organizations.
My son gave up video games last year for lent and to my surprise actually did it untill Easter. THis year my daughter has said she wants to give something up for lent as he did last year but she cannot figure out what she shall give up. She has really been pushing me this year to give up something so....... I've not made it known around here yet but I will (try) Hence the word try...to give up my drink of choice until Easter. It is Mountain Dew. Now its hard for those that dont really know me to know that I have a VERY strong bond with this soda pop. Its nearly the only thing I drink. Occasionally I will drink water, milk or juice but always a mountain dew. This will be interesting but I'm willing to do this to show my daughter it can indeed be done. Think of me cuz I'm gonna be grumpy, lol.....For now its sprite zero for me... I will keep you all updated on my progress. |
