25th February, 2004. 1:12 pm. Back Off The Fam, Man!

Looking back over the last few entries - it probably appears like my home life is just one snotty moment after another. Not true, dear reader. We are a loving fam and have great William Joycian moments all the time. Recently we instituted "Friday Family Night" where we try to all do something together. Last Friday we packed up a basket and all went to the Circus which had set up in the next suburb. The Lights! The Costumes! The Cheesiness! - I love the history and tradition of Circuses and have always kept a certain childlike fascination for the big top...which makes it all the more brittle when adult cynicism gets in the way.

It behoves me to say that I sat there in the cheap seats of a half filled tent, looking at the bored performers going through the motions, as the pseudo techno/world music blared out of the speakers sounding like a second rate Cirque du Soleil soundtrack. The clowns were inaudible, the animals starting to show signs of fatigue and the magic sections predictable and repetitive. I then looked down at my daughter as she sat there, big eyes and tiny hands clapping wildly and I remembered when I saw my first circus (unfortunately the only thing that springs to mind is the tiger taking a crap half way through its act - says a lot about my childhood) - I wonder what she will take away from this night?

I have been creating some postcards for Impro Melbourne at the moment and (as usual) trying to get my head around the print side of things. Having mainly worked with the web I find print a woolly world of trouble and strife - thank god for patient printers.

I had my hair cut by one of the right "royal cockney barrel of monkeys" at Dr Follicles yesterday - today it has taken on the "sucked mango" look that seems to be so prevalent at the moment.

Saw two good movies recently: Dinner Rush and Orange County. Dinner Rush has a good script and great acting Orange County has cameos a-plenty and some decent laughs. It also features Jack Black and the great (and now very old) Ernest Borgnine.

Current mood: Sore (from pithy Gym trip).
Current music: St Etienne.
