: The Amazing Life of Birds: The Twenty-Day Puberty Journal of Duane Homer Leech
TWEEN
This book was "discovered" by Gary Paulsen, and I am so glad he "found" it! I think that boys everywhere will probably be comforted to know that they are not alone in the struggle against puberty afflictions like the "zit monster" and seeing ELBOWS everywhere. (You need to read the book if you want to understand the ELBOWS thing!)
Duane Homer Leech is a typical Tween boy. His voice is changing. He is growing so fast, and feeling so distracted, that he is clumsier than ever. Oh yeah! And zits are taking over his face. In short, he is convinced that he may not survive puberty, let alone look back and laugh at it.
By comparing and contrasting himself to the fledgling bird in the nest outside his bedroom window, Homer finds hope that he, too, will learn to overcome puberty and "fly." A perfect book for any Tween boy, and a good reminder for the rest of us -- that we need to be patient and understanding when dealing with a Tween in puberty turmoil.
Happy Reading!
