10:52 pm - offices

i was feeling sick all day at work especially since i hadn't been able to sleep last night; taking tylenol didn't help. but by the afternoon, i felt better and the pain had subsided somewhat. i work mornings this week at the hotel so i found myself heading over to dr. chow's afterwards. i needed to ask him if he was still interested in letting me work there because he had just returned from holidays.

i strolled over to his office and dr. chow greeted me. i decided to stay for about an hour and half before they closed. he handed me over to his two receptionist staff to show me the ropes. they both spoke to me in english and i went through their filing system. those two ladies are very nice to me: there's ann who's in her 40s and reminds me of louisa (a chinese lady who used to work with me at a previous company). and then there's jennifer who's slightly younger. they talked about their kids and i offered to tutor jennifer's son in english if she brings him into the office one day. we continued to chat and i found out i live near jennifer - and to that, she promptly invited me over for dinner someday. since i live on my own, they teased me about buying precooked items from the supermarket below and eating instant noodles rather than cooking for myself.

it was nice to look around the office, check out the computer program and just get a feel of things. just before i left, i went into the staff room and ann was getting ready to go home. i thanked her for showing me around in cantonese. she was surprised because she always assumed i couldn't speak chinese. =P anyhow, she asked me how old i was. when i responded "23" - she started laughing and said "OH you're just a baby! baby girl! (be-be neuih!)" err ... i turned bright red and with a grin on my face, i quickly departed from the staff room.

now i'm home and as i peer into the mirror; maybe it's the power of suggestion but with my hair pulled back into 2 pieces and with glasses on, i look rather ... young (and dorky).

current mood: dorky

8:07 pm - random

this question came up in my mind during dinner ...
-is it possible to be self-conscious when you're blind? obviously you can't compare yourself to others if you cannot see them. and you don't really know the physical aspect of yourself or other people beyond what you're told. so if you were to for instance, literally lick a plate clean in the restaurant, as a sightless individual - would you even care what people saw because you can't see their reactions?

9:21 am - question

in order to have a destiny, you must have fate to delineate the way.
and if you only have fate but no destiny, then there would be no ending in the finality of things.
but what happens if fate is a risk you need to undertake and destiny an uncertain circumstance? would there be a conclusion or will it always only be a process that never quite finishes? and would you be satisfied with your destiny if you should reach it?

10:40 am - dinner, work

it was about 9pm last night when merr came out from ubc to meet me after work. i had some gift certificates so we had dinner at moxie's and it was quite amusing because even though i work below, i haven't actually ever sat at the table for a meal. plus i knew the people who worked there. amy, our server was great; we got a nice discount too. =) i stuffed merr until she could barely move. too bad they didn't have any candles for me to play with.

outside: it was so cold last night; waiting for the train, standing by the bus stop with merr - we were both frozen. unfortunately, i had to leave her there and take my train first because i was numb from the cold! thanks and sorry!

1:37 am - mission: a storyline

my fingers slowly grasped the sword and its meaning in front of me. the silver metal blade shone brightly despite the darkness of early morning. it was a slim blade, delicately made but strong enough to withstand heavy blows. the sheath itself was carved like a cherry tree's markings beneath the bark. i swept the sword through empty air to clear the dirt and it answered back with a clear bell's ring. the origin of the sword: a wind chime buried for more than a thousand years.

back in our small dimly lit room, i tied my long dark hair back with a piece of green cloth and tuck in the ends neatly. washing my face carefully, i glance into the yellowed mirror before me. a lone tear slides down from one of my eyes and i watch it travel down towards my chin. swiftly i wipe it away and wash my hands carefully before binding the surface of my palms with strips of black cloth. my expression morphs into a stern, determined and calculated look. i check the room and tidy up before quietly collecting my belongings. i clutch the sword in my left hand, my bag draped across my shoulders. hesitantly, i pause at the doorway and watch you sleeping soundly in bed. you look relaxed but your hands are already reaching for an empty space next to you.

as i depart from the familiar scenery, i whisper your name to the wind. i wonder if i will ever see you again and what you will do once you wake up.

please forgive me.

another day of missed work due to sickness.
this can't keep going on, otherwise, how am i going to pay rent?

i haven't been sick like this for a long time and when something like this hits me, i'm down.
but i actually got some sleep last night, after much coughing and coaxing warm water into my system.

seriously, i am contemplating on cancelling my october holidays and working during that time to make up for being sick right now. =(

2:36 pm - ubc

it's kind of strange to be back there...nothing's changed too much as far as the eye can see
but i know i am a slightly different person than before. i went to meet merr at ubc around late noon, took the bus and enjoyed the scenery all the way. with music in my ears, wind in my hair, i watched people all around me.

yestreday, i finally got to see her (new) apartment suite at gage and i met her new room-mate, a law student from australia. merr's place is really quite large; her bedroom seems bigger than my apartment. we went for dimsum quite earlier on at this on-campus chinese restaurant which was not bad. we talked about various places to eat and we realized that we liked the small, kooky restaurants that are dirt cheap for poor students and workers alike. nothing we can truly recommend for tourists but only the locals wouldn't mind. later on in the day, i followed (reluctantly) to her accounting class: filled to the brim with 300+ students but its nothing new to see people standing due to lack of seating and taking notes. the prof was unbelievably rude; as were the asian guys behind us who wouldn't stop chatting loudly. i listened to part of the lecture and wrote during the other half. in between the end of class and going back to her apartment, i choked on my cherry juice that i had brought with us.

besides visiting the bookstore and staples, we also went to the student union building and looked at posters for sale. i really like black and white photos and i think i may have found a perfect one for my place but i'm not sure if i should get it. actually there were quite a few posters i did like; merry thinks my taste is a little wonky but that's okay! =) we also got bubble tea to go, strawberry for me, milk tea for her. i played with her digital camera outside. once we returned to her apartment, i was trying to talk/laugh/drink/breathe at the same time and i choked on my strawberry bubble drink. (my throat still hurts)

while i messed up merr's place, she spoke and met with her new roomie again.
then we had pizza for dinner: i tried vegetarian spicy tofu pizza and it was quite good. plus i'm happy to say, i did not choke on my can of cola. then merr's friend, heidi came over to visit, they started watching a movie on tv: "dude, where's my car?"

by then i had to go, so merr walked me to the bus loop and i took the bus home again. it was cooler by then due to nightfall and wind. i like the weather that way.

2:51 am - au revior - gackt/mm

I leant against the window and watched the reflected figure
vanish in the darkened sunlight.
With overflowing feelings, I muttered
"At least until I wake from this dream..."

I want to hold you and sleep
Even now when it's become a gentle memory
I want to hold you in these arms and sleep
Like the time that we met

By the window I leant against the rustling trees
And softly muttered those same words once again...
The figure of that time is fading away
At least only inside a dream.

3:27 am - raining yay!

its raining after 4 weeks of hot weather. i'm glad; its strange to hear rumblings of thunder and the beating of rain against the window but i think it'll definitely help bring colour back into the scorched land. i hope it'll be raining in the interior soon too because firefighters have been battling hectares of forest fires and many people have been evacuated from their homes. although i'm lucky not to have family in that area, we do have hotels in that area and for about 2 weeks, we lost contact with the people who worked there. i felt the tension and fear when i thought about how hard it would be to just pack your bags and leave without knowing if your home, furniture, your belongings would still be remaining upon your return. the problem is, just a small shower won't help much because the interior is so much warmer than the lower mainland. so we need a large pouring rainstorm without any lightning of course.

i couldn't sleep because my stomach was aching. so i made some alphabet soup and had some for comfort. it was the sound of rain drops that made me get up first though. i guess i'm not used to it. p's sleeping like a baby. how come some people can just sleep at the drop of a hat and i can't? what's the secret? i wanna know. and he was cranky because i kept waking him. =) oops!

i should really go back to sleep but i'm still in pain so maybe i'll just sit for a little while longer...and sip on my soup.

current mood: wonky

3:54 am - CTR/work/dinner with parents

hehehe, three guesses as to what i've just finished playing in this wee hours of the morning...

CTR on ps2. my friend are at disneyworld so we borrowed their game and console. lots of fun even when i was just playing by myself since it's my friday but everyone else has work tomorrow. i was the tiger (top upper left, next to balloon) and i won 1st place everytime! ok ok, fine! so i was playing easy mode heheh but it was great! i like my tiger.

anyhow, dinner last night went well. i bought a bunch of lilies for my mom and of course, her goodie bag. apong gave us a ride to richmond but was worried all the way about getting pulled over because he lowered his lexus too much. we had a good time, took a bunch of pics (my sisters and i pulled out our cameras all at once - the waiter took turns with them; we posed for a while - can you imagine?) my mom was over-excited as usual. afterwards, we went to my sister's boyfriend's 1 br apartment to check it out because he just recently bought it. my sister went with him to buy furniture the other day. thinks me hears wedding bells in the nearby future! =) and it's about time! YEESH, we were beginning to think that no one was going to ever get married! later on, we went to the night market where p bought blank cds and (surprise surprise!) i bought a lemoneko tote/bowling bag for $15. it's cute and i love it! i brought it to work today and got compliments. i have to find a pic to show merr =) but could barely find anything about lemoneko online. i guess they're rare? oh by the way, will someone .. uh help me "find" a lemoneko wallet for my birthday? i couldn't find any that i liked at the night market but we were there by closing time. these are real nice though but i can't buy them because they're not for sale ...
or ... oh! this one...

i have to work tuesday, so one day off for me only this week. i have a sneaky feeling i'll be inside playing more CTR or helping/playing silent hill 2 with p.

4:54 pm - sunday dinner and my lazy days off

last night we had dinner with my parents and my sister at a chinese restaurant.
it was a really warm evening, i had the chance to talk to my sister in person and that was nice.
her boyfriend just returned from teaching in china and she's super happy.
today, i will attempt to steam cook a big fish i let my mom talk me into getting yesterday.
so fingers crossed on that effort. i also got a large bag of lychees and nectarines. yum!
its my days off and i just like spending it at home...
well, i don't think i am but its nice to spend time in your apartment. plus i never cook anymore on my working days so on my days off, home cooked meals are the way to go. =) sometimes merr comes to visit.

i'm trying to wake p up so he can buy some ginger and green onions for the fish.

5:35 am - why'd i wake up at 5am?

i woke up at friggin' 5am! why???? i mean, it's a quiet. nice and cool night. it wasn't my alarm clock either.
argh. sigh. all of which means i'm going to be tired later before i even start my evening shift.

one of the newer girls at my work quit yesterday.
my manager called me while i'm sleeping (it was noonish but sleeping hours were screwed up because of night shift) and told me about it. oh well. it was bound to happen. i don't know if she quit or got fired because she didn't show up for her shift due to medical reasons. supposedly she was in the hospital. now, normally we'd believe her but she's pulled too many sick days from when she first began working; so i don't know anymore.

so that leads us to be shorthanded...again, once more.

on a happier note, we've hired a new girl and she'll do my night shifts for the rest of the summer.
now i'll be healthier hopefully! she's just going to be like the ... 6th person i'll help train .... =P

what can you do ... when you live in a shoe? sigh

current mood: awake
