'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal Looky – on time! WORK Over the last month, I'd basically been doing two jobs (which meant I’d sucked at both of them as there simply isn't enough time to do either of them well). That was until my replacement arrived. First off, I am eternally grateful that she is competent, dynamic, intelligent, and a quick learner. I have basically been assigned to training her up in my role, while I do a small percentage of my new role. I’ve enjoyed training her actually, and the new stuff is fun. I’ve had my appraisal, and some long tern goals have been set in motion too. I actually quite like my job at the moment! MONEY My trip to London was expensive. Not quite as expensive as I expected, but expensive. So it looks like tight purse strings until the end of next month. Oh yeah, I’m going on Holiday again in two days. Shit. NINJA I am hoping that my usual tactic of ‘ignore it and it’ll go away’ will work with the half a stone I’ve put on since I stopped going to Ninja. Realistically, I doubt I’ll be going back to Ninja until the start of the next University term. It’s a little upsetting though as I didn’t consciously decide to do this, but a ‘few classes off’ for various (actual legit) reasons, got me out of the habit. WRITING Oops. I think this is something that needs work on. It might help if I sort out my ill PC. The only reason I haven’t sorted my ill PC is that it still runs WoW… HEALTH My hay fever has slowed a little, and my only whinge really is that my fitness level has decreased (funny that). Oh yeah, and I've put on half a stone! Ugh! I'm gonna end up fat! BOOKS Read a couple of books this month actually. I finally got round to reading The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown to see what all the fuss was. I found it a very compelling book, enjoyed the ‘learn shit about history’ stuff, and kind of admired the simplicity of treating every episode like a soap opera (a cliffhanger at the end of every ‘episode’). This doesn’t alter the fact that I really didn’t like the end of it, which kind of ruined it for me. It is definitely a good book to read when you’re on your holidays. I’ve also read Gideon Defoe’s The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists. A silly, funny and thoroughly enjoyable light read. It is also quite tiny and fits nicely into a jacket pocket: bonus. I have just started Yes Man by Danny Wallace too. MUSICA Further investigation of myspace has enabled me to download quite a few new tracks from artists I like such as Lordi and Deviant UK. I’ve also downloaded a few dancey tracks I like from iTunes, and intend to basically use iTunes to download current songs I like for 79p, rather than go to HMV and buy them for £4. FILM Only watched one film, but PotC2 is wonderful enough to mean I don’t need to have! Pirates of the Carribean – Dead Man’s Chest Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. I can’t emphasise how much I loved this film! I went in expecting more of the same from the first film and that’s what I got. I can’t see how anyone who was a fan of the first one, can’t love this too? ***** TELLY Screenselect are still sending me many programmes at once and I’ve been ploughing through them, so only a few to add here. Queer As Folk USA - Season 2 Another great season: well written, compelling, and just plain enjoyable stuff. ***** The Quatermass Experiment This was the more recent one with David Tennant and Mark Gatiss in it. A perfectly passable Sci-Fi yarn with much better acting than you usually get in Sci-Fi. Worth a look. *** Arrested Development - Season 1 An intelligent and dry comedy show that I’ve found myself loving more and more. **** American Dad Hilarious and controversial stuff from the people who bought us Family Guy. I actually think this might be better than Family Guy. ***** RPG AND GAMING Ars Magica, as always, has been much fun. When I was running the other day, mcphee’s character, Ryce, accidentally set the Black Death upon the world 200 years too early. If you will destroy ominous looking pentagrams, expect repercussions! World of Warcraft is still fab, and I’ve been playing alts a lot recently. It’s nice to play different character classes once in a while. BLOGGING & T’INTERNET I’ve not quite managed to live up to my somewhat ambitious ‘1 a day’ blogging thing, but I was in London for a week. Realistically, I doubt I’ll keep it up to 1 a day, but I’m glad I’m back blogging regularly. It’s fun. Incidentally, here’s a little gem that Clive found: World of Warcraft advert BLOGROLL As is the norm – point and laugh at the geeks. Or read their blogs.
